Don Yeomans, a senior research scientist at JPL, heads a group charged by NASA to watch for objects whose orbits bring them close to Earth. He and his group keep a watchful eye on near-Earth objects - asteroids, comets and other space rocks. In other words, this man knows what he is talking about, and is uniquely qualified to speak to the idea of celestial impacts occurring in 2012.

Dr. Donald K. Yeomans earned his Ph.D. in Astronomy at the University of Maryland in 1970[5].
At the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Don Yeomans is a Senior Research Scientist, Supervisor for the Solar System Dynamics Group, and Manager of NASA's Near-Earth Object Program Office. He was the Radio Science Team Chief for the Near-Earth Asteroid Rendezvous (NEAR) mission and the US Project Scientist for the Japanese Hayabusa asteroid sample return mission. His research work is focused upon the physical and dynamical modeling of comets and asteroids. For the Deep Impact mission, he was responsible for optimizing the ephemeris of comet Tempel 1 and helping to develop the targeting strategy[6]. Don has received 15 NASA Achievement awards including an Exceptional Service Medal and a Space Act Award. Asteroid 2956 was named 2956 YEOMANS to honor his professional achievements[3][4].

JPL Blog

He has a post on the JPL Blog titled 2012 - A Scientific Reality Check. At the end of the article he says:

For any claims of disaster or dramatic changes in 2012, the burden of proof is on the people making these claims. Where is the science? Where is the evidence? There is none, and all the passionate, persistent and profitable assertions, whether they are made in books, movies, documentaries or over the Internet, cannot change that simple fact. There is no credible evidence for any of the assertions made in support of unusual events taking place in December 2012. (Emphasis Added)[1]

YouTube Video

Yeomans has also recorded a video [2], released under Universe Today Videos, which addresses the same points.

A version of this video with Spanish language subtitles is also available.

UStream Video

A longer video recorded on December 8th, 2011 is available on UStream.

Just Another Day

Don Yeomans and JPL have released another video titled "12-21-2012: Just Another Day"
