It seems that texting is destroying the ability of young people to write proper English, and it will have a major effect on the language itself.

Both, but what I was commenting on in my post was the silliness of changing the name form Sci Fi to Sy Fy.

I guess that they were trying to make themselves stand apart from the Science Channel, so they choose somewhat of a text message version of Sci Fi-Sy Fy.
I don't care for it either, and from what I remember during a discussion forum about it neither does many science fiction viewers.

Yeah, it used to be the Sci Fi Channel, but I guess they decided that Sy Fy was catchier. I hate it.

I was very disappointed in National Geographic after I saw a few minutes of their 2012 special. They presented a guy as an "expert" and when he said "of course, nothing like this could happen", they then hounded him with question after question framed like "Well, if it DID happen, what would THAT be like?" And quixotically, the prat answered them. Was he being paid by the hour?

Ok, I caught the re-airing today, 11-12 Thursday.

I). They introduced the topic.
II). They concentrated on Jenkin's enlightenment and disaster scenarios. (For those of you who do not follow, Jenkin's belief of 2012 is generalized to encompass nothing taking place).
III). They allowed both to search for what they believed to be evidence.
IV). They also talked about myths that may be indicators of past disasters. (Mythology is an interest of mine. Mythology is the study of ancient stories, and according to mythology the stories are aimed to: A Explain unexplainable events often as the wrath of God, B grow as a person C to prepare you for the after life)
V). They talked about three extreme theories (or truly opinions) of global cataclysm (opinion since there's no concrete evidence)
VI). The show concluded saying roughly that what will happen on 2012 is speculation.

In my opinion, I thought that the showing was objective in its approach. They did talk about some kind of structure in Egypt that caught my attention, but water distorted the picture from basically sonar (at least I thought that was interesting).

I stand corrected. According to the schedule, it will re-air on Thursday, so I'll watch it and see what happens.

I wasn't aware that the syfy channel did a show on 2012. It was probably either on the movie or an original syfy presentation. Not that it should matter so much with all the end of the world plots that the syfy channel has done in the past to single out any particular syfy original movie. The storyline bounces back and forth between a main character who saves the world or fails.

I wasn't able to catch any of the *three* 2012 specials on last night (NatGeo, SyFy, and Discovery). Of them I heard that NatGeo and Discovery were appropriately skeptical, and that SyFy was a load of BS.

But that's second-hand info. As I said, I have not watched any of them, but I will try to get to them in the next few days.

I heard the SyFy channel had some kind of show on last night about 2012. Are they know getting in on the hysteria??

Did anyone watch it? What was it about?
