Has anybody considered that this is just a basic application of Benford's Law and mammalian pattern finding? With 12 or 24 hours, 60 minutes, 28 to 31 days, 12 months - we are going to see patterns with 10, 11 or 12 more commonly than any other double digit numbers. Of the three, 11 clearly has symmetrical attractiveness?

Also a pity is the fact that the exact time of the solstice was originally estimated to be 11:11 UTC, but was corrected to 11:12 about 3 years ago (it depends on the unpredictable rate of rotation of the Earth). If the time had been published as 11:12 from the start, none of the numerologists would have latched on to it and we'd never have heard a word about it.

I have hard time remembering when they last time anointed an Anti-Christ at the Olympics. Must have been at some closing festivities long before I was even born.

Also, how could a numeral system developed in India that was adopted by Arabs and then transferred to Europe in Middle Ages have any "cosmic" meaning whatsoever? The numbers we today use (1234567890) are just a mutually agreed standard, a social convention. If history went some other way, we could use god-knows-what system instead of these. Would that other numeral system also have the same "magical" meaning and properties?

The same with the year 2012. Why would a random year in a random calendar system (Gregorian in this case) have any "cosmic" meaning? If Charles Martel had lost the Battle of Tours in 732, we could be using the Islamic calendar today instead of the Gregorian one. Would Islamic calendar also have something special reserved for their year 1433 (or 1434)?

Someone noticed that if I add up the numbers of the date of the solstice, so:
21/12/12 - 2 +1 +1 +2 +1 +2 = 11?
Sure, it's just a coincidence and not mean anything. But it is rather curious.

But it is wrong we are not in the year 12… we are in the year 2012 and

21/12/12 - 2 +1 +1 +2 +1 +2 = 9
Day 2+1=3 Month 1+2=3 Year 1+2=3 added up 3+3+3=9

However if you want to do the proper way … 21/12/2012 : 2 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 2 + 0 + 1 + 2 = 11
21/12/2012 Day 2+1=3 Month 1+2=3 Year 2+0+1+2=5 add all together 3+3+5=11

Now numerology is stupid as it means absolutely nothing… they mean nothing other than to count and track items. They can not predict no matter what sequence of numbers we use, it will still just be a number. Nothing more, nothing less.

Quite so. We have 10 fingers. 10 x 10 x 10 x 2 = 2000. If we'd had 12 fingers, no doubt doomsday would have been predicted for the years we call 1728 (12 x 12 x 12) and 3456 (12 x 12 x 12 x 2).
That leaves aside the fact that calendars have arbitrary starting dates anyway.

Having large round numbers or noticeable numbers, such as repeating digits, doesn't mean a thing.
They're just numbers that people notice and try to assign some significance to.

I think the basic reasoning behind 2012 is numerology. When the world failed to cooperate with the predictions for it to end in the year 2000, the numerology nuts looked for another calendar reaching a round number and happened across the Mayan Long Count, which reaches date 13.0.0.0.0. This date has 4 zeroes, much better than the paltry 3 in 2000.
One can understand people in the year 1000 expecting doomsday or the second coming. After all, superstition and lack of education were prevalent. But in the year 2000? It shows how little some people have moved on.

As Chance says time itself only happens becase we acknowledge it. The concept of time has evolved of ever since we started to track the stars and the seasons here on Earth… and man only tracked the seasons so we knew when to plant crops and when the wild heards would be back for hunting etc

• Any one can make a movie, But very few can write legitmate papers which you have to read and make sense.
• Add disasters images. Instant visualuastion of doom and gloom, sets emotion. Reading and concentrating take longer and most people give up reading and comprending it. A movie is easier and does more damage.
• Movies involves more of the human senses to capture its audience, add sound and threatening and or sad music, example if some of these disaster videos had happy clown music… more people would see through the hoax. Next time block out the music and play in your head some circus music…
• Tell the story and mush facts… as long as the two above are working this is overall irrelevant.
• Movies can say a lot more in a shorter period of time… those with short attention spans (like me) get the message quicker with out lossing the audiance…

Funny thing really, people all say. Time is time and the date is just the date but no one has fully explained why.
Time was recorded so we could get an idea of what point we're at in the day, there's no other reason it exists, it's just so we know where we are kinda like a map :)
11:11 is just another time, when we look at a clock as see a weird number on the clock it means nothing, it's just the time. What it was made for, the end of the world never anticipated that we'd start recording time the way we do. Neither did we at that matter, we just did.

In fact, every time I consciously think anything about 11:11 before looking at the clock, it NEVER is. Not ONCE has that been the case. It only happens when my mind ISN'T expecting it or looking for it.

Consciously you don't want too see it, and consciously you're not aware.
If you try and look for it, you're not going to find it.
If you don't, you'll just notice it. Why? because you're more aware of whatevery the time is when you're looking at it consciously. But when you subconsciously look at it and notice 11:11 you become interested, and THAT is where your conscience takes over and you become aware.

Oh and another thing, it does happen to everyone ^^ We all notice 11:11 here because we all talk about it.
So naturally, when the time hits 11:11 about 70% of the people on this page see it. We just don't freak out when we do.

The reason you notice numbers like 11:11, 2:00 3:55 and all those, is because it's more of a round number for a start. When it's 2:23 do you say, it's 2:23 right now. No, you often say it's 2:25, or even 2:30 those that say 2:30 are less likely to notice 2:25, and those that say 2:25 will notice both.
Also, when someone asks you the time at 2:23, you tend to look back at the clock at 2:25. Because now you've said it you're subconsciously aware and without thinking about it you'll look at the time at exactly 2:25 because you've subconsciously noticed it.
I bet if you meet a good hypnotist he'd likely be able to make you go home all day and and frequently check the clock until it hits 3:00 exactly and without realising make you notice that specific time alot more, you really be able to recall subconsciously looking at the clock every now and then as you walk in the room but the only time that will be on your mind will be 3:00 and at that point (as far as you're concerned) that is the only time you looked at or "noticed"

So for that sake, i'm going to show you from a different perspective.
You walk into a bar and that night you speak to alot of different girls, and you look at alot of different girls.
A particular girl you look at is extremely attractive, just your type and breifly looks over at you and maybe even smiles. But nothing else happens that night.
This girl could be an example of the 11:11, and everyone else is about 2:34, 10:24, 4:59 Those other girls you looked at wont be remembered the next morning but 11:11 girl is that one you'll be thinking about for a while the next day until you go out again for another night.
so the more significant a number is, the more likely you are the remember it. Of course another way to look at it is, 11:11 is just a more attractive number. its self, it's the second time in the day where all the numbers are the same, and the only time of day if you don't read 24 hour clock. so this number is bound to catch you attention regardless if you've ever heard of numerology or not.

I have thrown together a basic experiment to prove this idea wrong to yourselves.
Now that after reading this you should be aware that you're specifically looking for a that specific time and not just automatically looking at the time because of some supernatural force, just like 11:11 girl, it caught your attention ;)
so what i want you to do, (if this still freaks anyone out) don't think about numerology, no wait, actually do think about it. Every now and then it should spring to mind when you hear someone talking about it or you see it on the internet when you're browsing look at the time at that exact moment, DON'T WAIT!
just look. and you'll notice a normal time like 2:49 which it is now :) Because you're not subconsciously looking for a specific time you're just looking at the time.

Now i never figured this out from the 11:11 theory, i figured this out from 23, a movie that game out starring Jim Carey about the end of the world and how the numbers form together and relate to every date and significant even that has ever happened.
Of course, only if you add a lot of random number from other dates and put 2012 into the equation and throw other random things in do you get that number -_-
I then began to notice 23 spring up everywhere. I'd get numbers and add them together and get freaked out when it added up to 23.
This was because in the back of my mind, i wanted them to add up to 23. So i was looking for it :) now that i've gone past that phase, i don't see 23 anywhere now!…except in this post -_-
