The idea that "the government" is putting this up as a distraction begs the question: Which government? As far as I can tell this hoax is international. Most of the 'believers' are in the U.S., but there's also a lot from India, Australia, the U.K., much of Europe, and much of Central and South America (judging by the locations of people visiting this website).

Suspecting the government of being behind this is the kind of conspiracy thinking that the hoaxers indulge in and rant about. Not that I trust the U.S. government all that much, but I don't see promoting a doomsday hoax as something that they would consider as being in their best interest.

Glad you got over your fear :) I'm still steadily getting over mine. And also I'm starting to suspect that the government is behind the entire thing just to make money and hiring tv stations and other people to make up stuff that sounds like sense (to people who don't know much about the Earth) but lacks evidence of it and some people fail to see that when overcome with fear. And I recently heard that the U.S. owes China a lot of money so that could have something to do with it I'm not all that sure yet. I also guarantee you that when 2013 comes theres gonna be a spoof movie about 2012.

Hello, this is the original poster that went by the name "Anonymous." I'm switching my name to be more identifiable.

Anyways, I haven't paid that much attention to the 2012 phenomenon or any of it's theories in quite some time. The psychiatrist finally called, 5 months after we first visited the doctor in request for him, but we declined any appointments since I haven't been that worried about it lately. He took quite a bit of time to get back to us.

I'm so sorry to hear about how this terrible hoax has affected you and am glad you are doing better. Please, when you want to read more and shed some light on the subject, don't read internet lore and crackpot websites. All of their claims are either lies, ignorance, or complete misunderstanding of how the world and the Solar System work. You will be much better off reading on this site to learn why their scenarios can't happen.

I'm not sure when the petition will be sent to the Hysteria Channel. Several of us wrote drafts of letters for that purpose, but we have failed to get it finalized. One of the members here had one written, but I felt that it need some editing. I don't remember who posted that one or where it is. If the person who posted it is willing, I am good at editing. We really do need to get that sent, with lots of signatures.

I don't think your story is boring. I find it heartbreaking, because the proponents of a 2012 doomsday and their witting or unwitting allies at the History Channel and other outlets don't realize, or even worse just don't care about, the harm they are doing to young people.

I would like to heavily thank the makers of this website. It's definitely helped relieve some of the stress that's been put on me by the 2012 Doomsday phenomenon and its predictions. I've been in fear that the world would end soon ever since I was in 7th grade. That was the first time that I saw one of the many documentaries that the History Channel has aired, and ever since then I've been obsessed with the thought that the world might end in 2012. I'm in 11th grade now, and since then it's become a heavy burden on all of my day-to-day activities. Back then, I thought about it nonstop, after soon it creeped into the back of my mind, but it never went away. It still hasn't, and I always feel like there's an internal clock in my head that's counting down the days. It's been bothering me more often now because of the limited amount of days left.

Last summer, when I first saw the trailer for the movie I freaked out. I explained to my parents the paranoia I've been experiencing, and we've had quite a few talks about it. After then, I didn't think about it as much, but it's now come back to me because of all the recent and large earthquakes; that contributed to the main fear I've always had of crustal displacement (asphyxiation). I used to (and still sometimes do) indulge myself in internet lore just to shed some light on the situation, but it usually makes it worse. I brought it back up to my parents and now I'm finally seeing a psychiatrist, so hopefully he/she can take it off my mind …forever.
