Roland Emmerich is a piece of crap who doesn't give a damn that he's frightening a lot of people. The Institute for Human Continuity commercials are conclusive proof of that.

Hi Connor,
I hope you don't think that films are made to inform people. They are made for money. That is also the reason the 2012 hoax was invented. The mockumentaries about it on the Hysteria Channel and others are done for the same reason. Scaring people increases viewership which increases their money from advertising. I have never felt a moment's fear about 2012 because all their claims are so laughably false and unscientific. The people who made it all up and are pushing it are making a bundle off the sale of books, "survival guides", "survival supplies", and space in nonexistent shelters. They are all sharks who have created a feeding frenzy. They are getting rich off people's fear and they don't care how many they hurt in their mad scramble for the almighty dollar. I hope you don't waste another moment fearing it. We are fighting the hoaxers because we do care. If we can prevent even one of these frightened people from ruining their lives (or worse), then it will all have been worth it.

Am I scared by 2012? Um… no.

I am very afraid that some people are so terrified by all of the doomsday talk that they may do something stupid. There are some rumors that this has already happened.

Are you worried about this, cause as with most people, I am. I try to look the other way and avoid hearing anything about it, but all i see are news articles, website adverts, webpages and now that film, and i honestly just cant get it out of my head

Your question is interesting, but I have to admit that I am a bit confused by it. Why would the amount of money spent on a fictional film have any relevance to the fact that the "2012 doomsday" is a hoax?

In interviews the producer/director Roland Emmerich has said that the film was not specifically about 2012 as much as it was a "modern noah's ark story", and the 2012 doomsday rumors were just the vehicle used to tell that story.

As far as why he would spend $200 million making the film, the answer is also in the above story… it grossed $770 million worldwide. By my rough calculations that puts it about $570 million ahead.

If the 2012 apocalypse is all a hoax then why would a director spend $200 million on making a film that is just to scare people, I really dislike this sick idea about scaring people. They have taken their time to makes films, books, documentaries and even pages on sites such as Wikipedia… can someone explain why they would even bother doing this?
