The internet contains an unfathomable amount of knowledge and factual information about any topic you can imagine, yet more often than not, it seems that people turn it into a high-tech echo chamber, searching for stuff that reinforces what they already want to believe and ignoring or dismissing the mountains of evidence to the contrary. This is hardly a new phenomenon; people did the same thing in libraries before the internet even existed. But that kind of confirmation bias took time and effort that online research does not. Ironically, having a world of information at one's fingertips has made it that much easier for people to remain willfully uninformed.

On August 1st, 2010 a complex eruption took place on the sun, indicating changes to the magnetic field of the Sun. Patrick had shared this calculated prediction in his book The World cataclysm in 2012 on page 203 or page 163 (depending printing), yet not published it on his website.

I have read parts of Geryl's books. It is hardly readable due to his self assurance and his unwillingness to accept anything that doesn't fit into his claims. He bends, and twists reality to make it fit into his fantasies. Kind of like putting a square block into a round hole, eventually breaking it to make it fit. In his mind, it fit the entire time. Even if you show him the broken pieces, it wouldn't matter to him.

Ironically, Ben, you are doing something similar. I know because I have done it too. You are bending reality, trying to make Patrick's claims seem more real. So just take a deep breath, go outside and look around. Then think about it. If Patrick were right about his claims, you would not be here in the first place. Everything you see now, would not exist.

A few points:

1) The 'excerpt' from the book says nothing about low solar activity. It is talking about his random numbers that he thinks points to a magnetic field reversal in 2012.

2) The page is talking about 'complex negative sunspots'. Perhaps there is a translation issue here, but 'negative' is used by Geryl to indicate the polarity of the sunspot and not the lack of sunspot activity.

3) The page (written in January 2011) says: "For those following the current cycle, most would notice the slow ramp up of activity compared with the last 50 years. Solar Cycle 24 is at the moment the slowest ramp up since the beginning of measurements in 1755!"

Again, this is months after the same thing was noted by the 'real' scientists. I remember Discovery Space's Ian O'Neill talking about the unusual lack of activity in August of 2010.

And again, this is not part of Geryl's "prediction".

It appears to me that you are looking for ways to justify Geryl's insane ranting. Trust me, there is no sense to be made of his drooling nonsense.

Yah, and if you've actually paid attention here, Geryl "predicted" that well after the actual forecast was released by NOAA. He didn't "predict" anything, and his further attempts to "predict" sunspot activity have been proven failures time and time again.

That isn't an article confirming Patrick Geryl. There is nothing scientific about that article if that's what you would like to call it. Please, I beg you to find me an actual article that confirms anything about Patrick Geryl…..better yet find anyone at NASA who has even heard of Geryl. I'm willing to bet you will not find anyone or anything.

Second, if we've made it through one Carrington event in the last 160 years, why would the next one cause a rotational pole shift? Have you actually read a Geryl book, Ben?

As usual, Geryl is taking the work of someone who appears to know what they're talking about, and attempts to contort it to support his pseudoscientific views. These videos do nothing to support him, which makes me wonder why you Ben said this:

Which makes me think you're either not thinking critically about this, or you're so invested in Geryl's ideas that you're unintentionally promoting them. Give us statistics to support his claims, or say nothing at all.

April 18-19, 2011: Sunspot Complex from 2 sunspots + 5 C flares + filament

Go here and you can check the solar activity of every day since 2003. On the dates April 18th-19th 2011, I count two C flares, not five. And isn't it convenient that he never includes flares, CME's or filiments in his predictions before the date comes? He just says "two sunspots will appear" then after the date he points out all flares, CME's etc and proclaims his prediction "spot on"! The hilarious thing is that July 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th had absolutely zero flares, so now he's saying that several imaginary CME's confirm his prediction. Bottom line is, he's never ever in a million years going to hold his hands up and say he's wrong, as it appears that even when the sun does nothing at all, he just makes stuff up. It's impossible to argue against a man who is so convinced he's right, he doesn't even recognise his own lies.

No it's just the movies, this is evidence about his predictions

Interesting, then why did he fail to predict really good CME's that really would prove his case?
How can it be a good model to predict if the model fails the big events?
