I'm really glad that I've found this website and began to engage in it as well. I feel confident that by reading, asking questions/stating concerns and talking with y'all is what has truly thickened my skin when it comes to anything, in any way, being associated with 2012/end of the world. In retrospect, I see how people are making mountains out of molehills and it's beginning to frustrate me. Some of these people are truly and genuinely convinced that the world is going to end in 2012 for whatever reasons and through whatever means (and they, well, are in a league of their own), and others are just trying to instill fear in others for their own selfish and deluded reasons.

I think one of the reasons I am beginning to get so agitated is because as a child in elementary school, I had a close relative..convinced the end of the world was going to happen in 96/97..instill that fear in me and I've already lived with that anxiety as child. And now at almost 30, it's happening again and it's taking a lot to not fall into the fear, there's been a lot of resistance and I owe that extra boost to y'all!! So yeah, thanks, once again!

"GNS Science, the New Zealand government seismological agency, revised the quake's magnitude to 7.1 from an original 7.4. The U.S. Geological Survey initially reported it at 7.4 but later revised its figure to 7.0."

The time given for the 7.0 was 4:30 AM, so it is the same one.

Yes, bringing the year's global total of 7.x quakes to 16. The yearly average since 1900 is 15, so there's really nothing unusual here.

I'm going to beat Alene Y to the punch here, and say that you shouldn't worry about pestering us. The entire reason for the site's existence is to reassure people that 2012 will be an entirely normal year.

As far as the galactic plane is concerned, there are a couple of different scenarios or claims that are made, and frequently these different claims get confused and mixed up with each other, and with the period of the earth's precession.

As Dr. Larsen explains it, if you think of the galaxy as a fried egg (with the yolk as the bulge, and the white as the disk) then the 'galactic plane' is the flat plane that would pass through the whole shebang, intersecting the edge of the disk, all the way around. Here's the important bit: The galactic plane is a human approximation. It is supposed to roughly correspond to the center of mass of the disk, but of course there are all kinds of exceptions, because nature is not as neat and tidy as we tend to think. If you lived in the Southern Hemisphere you would be familiar with the Magellanic clouds, which are actually small companion galaxies to the Milky Way. These small galaxies have been found near other large galaxies as well, and we can see that they warp the 'galactic plane' so that it is no longer flat. In some cases it looks like a 'galactic saddle' or perhaps 'galactic tostada'. So it is reasonable to infer that the galactic plane of our galaxy may be similarly warped.

In fact, the margin of error in determining the position of the galactic plane is several light years.

So there's a problem with the whole idea of this region as a fixed point in space. In addition, there's the problem (for the people who say we are going to be passing through the plane) that when we measure the motion of the solar system through the galaxy (and this is done by surveying the speeds of stars both moving toward us and away from us) we find that the solar system is moving toward the galactic north. We also find that we appear to be to the galactic North of the galactic plane. In other words, we are moving away from the galactic plane, not toward it.

It turns out that stars (and solar systems) not only orbit the center of the galaxy (every couple hundred million years) but also kind of wobble up and down, like a cork bobbing along in a stream. It takes about 33 million years for us to bob up, and then back to the center, then another 33 million for us to bob down, and then back to the center.

As best we can tell, we would have passed through the galactic plane a few million years ago, and we probably won't be back for another 30 million years or so.

And finally, the biggest problem for this idea is the relevance. So, we pass through an imaginary plane in space. So what? The proponents can't point to any reasonable¹ mechanism for why this would present a problem.

A separate claim that is made is that the earth will "align" with the galactic plane. Speaking from a sense of 3-dimensional geometry, this doesn't make sense. The Earth is part of the solar system, which is not on the galactic plane. So you have a point, and a plane that doesn't touch the point. What kind of 'alignment' can you seriously talk about? It's like holding a pencil above a table, and claiming that the point of the pencil is 'aligned' with the table. Sometimes the claim is made that the line between the earth and sun will intersect the galactic plane. This is true. But it does that for most, if not all, of the year.

Wow, I didn't mean to write such a long response. I think I'll leave planetary alignments to someone else.

Alignments and/or eclipses of any kind are being targeted by 2012 doomsayers, it seems. Full moon? 2012. Eclipse? 2012. Seeing Venus? 2012.

Planetary alignments, depending on your definition of alignment, happen all the time. If it's just between two points, say Earth and Venus, then you can line them up every day. If it's between three, say the Earth, Venus and the Sun, then it's just a tad rarer - the next transit of Venus (where we can see it pass in front of the Sun from our view on Earth) will happen in 2012, June 5th or so.

And that has happened many times before, it happens with any combination of planets you can name, and arguably isn't even an alignment - how perfect must planets be aligned? Must it be absolutely perfect, or just 'in a general line'? Doomsday proponents tend to be vague about it.

Next time you look at a solar eclipse or lunar eclipse, that's also an alignment, both are which are nothing but pretty to look at. You don't see the world coming to end every time the Moon passes in front of the Sun do you?

The main thing is to enjoy your life while you still have the opportunity to experience it.

The fact is, that of the top 20 causes of death, the majority of them (in developed countries) can be partially attributed to lifestyle. We overeat, we don't exercise, we spend way too much time in front of the TV and computer. Heart attacks, strokes, and cancer are the biggest killers, all of which can be partially attributed to the above causes.

So my advice: Stop worrying about 2012, and go take a walk.

Regarding your last question, thank you, that is a very generous offer, but no, that won't be necessary.

This site costs about $75 per year to run. Wikidot charges about $50/year for hosting it without ads, and the other $25 is taken up in domain registration fees and expanded storage fees. So over the course of the 4-year run of the site that's about $500.

I'm not rich (I'm just an IT guy in a small manufacturing company), but I can afford that, especially for a cause like this.

"What if" is completely normal, it's a natural human response, really.
I have to drive for 15 hours tomorrow. What if I get a flat? What if I break down?
Asking "what if", especially when it relates to doom and gloom, is completely normal and no one can really blame you for asking that question, because in spite of our "empire", we are a very fragile species, we're every bit of fragile as any other species on this planet, so in a sense, we're easily threatened and that causes for plenty of what if's.

From a curious perspective, I find it odd that people choose to fear the absurd claims of 2012 when each and every day that they get out of bed, take a shower or, leave their homes, they, individually, face death because the world isn't a safe little bubble, no matter how much we would like for it to be.

You face more threats, daily, than you face any threat from 2012.

I, as many people on here know, suffer from the same problem, and recently was placed on to suicide watch. The people here are fantastic, and truly are great at explaining things, and allowing you the time to express fear and have them explained rationally is truly a fantastic thing. However if you are like me, you read it, and i dont know if u have heard the phrase, but then the "what if" gene kicks in. You try to think what if they missed it, what if theyre wrong, what if they work for the government, what if they saying this to make me feel better.

I have had all these insane thoughts, and scoured the ridiculously open and scary internet for data, which when given to real people, and astronomers, gets debunked. But then, like i say, the what if gene kicks in, which can help trigger the anxiety. Id say just read this site, no other, as they often update you in the other sections on what has happened, e.g. jupiter got his recently by a meteor i believe it was (im sure astrogeek or sum1 will correct me if im wrong) and they said i wonder how long until some nut, one in particular makes a video saying its nibiru. Amazingly, 3 days later, there was a video, on the internet, claiming to be 100% proof of nibiru.

Fact is, there are people here to help, and i now too, will offer my help since others do too. I am usually very busy, like everybody, but try to get back on when ever i can, just to put my mind at ease, so if you need a fellow person to talk to, just give me a shout.

Fear, by itself, is bad enough without the amplification of an anxiety disorder, I can only imagine the Hell that you must be going through. Listen to what the others here say, they're right. They won't lie to you like all of the others out there who are supporting these absurd claims.

Even if something can be hidden from you with a "chemtrail," it won't be hidden from someone five kilometers away. For example, hold your hand in front of your face so that it blocks your screen. Now, keeping your hand in place, lean to one side. You should be able to see your screen again, even though your hand is still there. Same principle with covering things in the sky. It's just silly.

Weather control is actually not all "noise", since it is based on actual science. Weather control is in fact a reality, and many countries uses it (the US for example). However, weather control has nothing to do with chemtrails hiding Nibiru or that nonsense

1) Yes, Nibiru could hide behind the sun. Briefly. It is impossible for it to be completely hidden behind the sun at all times. Additionally, if it were directly behind the sun, would it just smack into it eventually? No, this excuse is not possible.
