Isn't jcattera a born again Christian or otherwise devout? Ought to question why he is so willing to use nuclear force, and has so much faith that multiple nuclear explosions will have absolutely no effect on the human populous below the amassing alien hordes of which he speaks…

You know, among other illogical things.

Maybe I should have expected that jcattera would jump on the bandwagon. I found this statement from him on his YouTube page:

With all this talk about our nukes being disabled, think of this scenario… What if the aliens disabled our nukes with their scout ships ahead of time (before they arrive) so WE don't use our nukes on them when they arrive in droves over our major cities? If they arrive in huge numbers, that my friend, is a show of force. Stock up on ammo.

I'm too old to cry, but I think I will anyway.

That, and 2012 has really been my first foray deep into enemy territory, as it were. Before taking up the cause of anti-woo, I mostly dealt with creationists.

Fortunately, I think you're right, as the large amount of seagull posts here, and comment deletions and blocking on YouTube, can probably attest.

I think that "woo" artists have been declaring violence for quite some time now.

Violence is all good in movies and video games, but I swear, if I have to carry a gun with me just because of a bunch of lunatics like in the movie Doomsday, I'm seriously going to backhand someone.

I've not bothered with Von after one of his videos about STEREO I think it was, a 16 minute rant on… something, I don't even know what. Was it a rant about how he was debunked? Probably not, doesn't seem like the type to admit defeat. I think he restated his (wrong) position and moved on with yet another topic.

While I don't spend any amount of time reading through the comments or indeed watching his videos in any great detail, I suspect it's full of like minded people who know they have a safe place to post such comments. It's like a club. A reptilian-fearing gun-toting club with a sign on the door saying "No Girls Allowed".

Maybe.

The point is, beyond the odd attempt at responding to videos critical of those views (that is to say other than posting comments to your videos for example), they don't seem to be anywhere else. They don't seem to be branching out into other circles to spread their views; they are comfortable in their own little circle where they aren't likely to get picked on. Safety in numbers, sticking together, etc.

So while they can and will say such utter nonsense, they'll only say it, I don't think they'll ever do it because doing it will require them to leave that comfort zone and actually act in the real world. For all their bravado about shooting reptilian overlords in the liver (or livers, plural - I guess reptiles like to drink copious amounts of hard liquor), you've got to question whether that carries across into life, and I think it won't. It doesn't matter how much you talk about law or duty or belief or whatever righteous reason you've given yourself that permits you to enact your fantasy, only the deluded will ever do it.

Only the stupid will act on it. And if and when they do, 'What's the harm?' will get some new entries.

VonHelton has posted this video, which paints the colorful tale of Homeland Security and the 82nd Airborne being mobilized to deal with the arrival of alien visitors. As usual, the connection to "aliens" is asserted, not supported, and I can't find any indication that the 82nd Airborne has actually been mobilized as claimed. All of the sources for the story seem to circularly reference one another.

What got my attention was the comment below. It is actually kind of disturbing, though I have no way to know whether the poster is just entertaining himself like jcattera or whether he's serious.

The2012Remedy
Who the &&&& knows what the hell is gonna happen just LOCK-N-LOAD !! PEOPLE!! make sure all your vehicles are gased up !! And no matter how hopeless it seems just keep blastin away like a MTHFER !! Get mean & nasty!! Reptilions gotta have a heart aim for it .Von said to aim low right above the waist shoot on bothsides cause they have two livers I think ,Give me some feedback on this one Von or any1? I'm sure if you die, while killing one of these scaly mthfers you died with honor for humanity

Another fanciful user writes:

pmickp
@azporter1996
there is no way we can be any steps ahead in this one we will just have to be at are best abilities. be ready the best we can. have no fear and fight with confidence power and love in defending are beings. mercy will not be shown to us. but we shall show mercy as we fight with love and freedom this is the power of light .lets hope it dose not come to this but this is a real option. this is most probable thing why els 300 miles long . INDIPENDENCE DAY thats what this reminds me off

In the video, VonHelton at first urges his viewers to stay calm, but then moments later he himself declares, "Speaking strictly for me, if they so much as twitch an antenna, I'm lighting their &&&&&&& &&& up."

Von and others like him have made similar declarations before. All is made worse by this article from FOX News, which is written in a manner fit for a tabloid. Reuters fans the flames in their own way. So not only do we have woo artists making claims about alien visitors playing with nukes, but we have mainstream news outlets failing to report with due skepticism. Predictably, the woo community is in an uproar.

The original video by conspiracy theorist SmokinJoeTrainer has been removed, and one blog claims he retracted his declaration about the 82nd Airborne being mobilized. Yet, hilariously, an attempt is made to create a new conspiracy theory about the original conspiracy theory being wrong.

"Probably somebody down the line wanted to see how fast this story was disseminated."

I know the idea of 2012 being a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy, in terms of certain individuals and groups feeding each other b.s. and becoming hysterical, isn't new. If I recall, it has been kicked around here once or twice. Above and beyond the obvious fear that these woo-woo fictions generate, which we've seen played out in multiple threads, is anyone concerned that some of these doomsayers and conspiracy claimants might become violent? Proponents like VonHelton seem perfectly willing to issue calls to arms, and they do so on the basis of absolutely nothing but imagination. I also suspect that just about everyone here has been accused at least once of being a "disinfo agent" or government plant.

By no means do I intend to further a scare scenario of my own, but I am increasingly unsure as to what should be dismissed as nationalistic or tough-guy bravado, and what might indicate an actual willingness to get stupid.

The good news is that I think we're talking about a sliver of a tiny segment of the population, but it's a loud segment, at least on the Internet.
