I agree that overpopulation is a major problem, and contrary to the beliefs of conspiracy theorists, I believe that overpopulation is the primary reason for the search of other planets that are habitable for mankind, it's a much better option than trying to kill everyone, because that would just take too long, wouldn't it?

There are a lot of things in this world that we, as humans, should be more worried about, rather than worrying about invisible planets and tentacle monsters from the galactic equator.

2012 is not one of them.

Simply because one problem exists is not a reason to make up a new one, and link them together. That is just a distraction from the real issues, and only serves to cast question and doubt on those problems that do exist.

It is how you look at the world - is it a scarey depressing place or a place of wonder? I had a wall fall on me at a store where I was shopping - I ended up in the hospital in a coma and injured brain. For a long time, I was afraid of that store, walls with shelves on them, and the like. I took it in stages - wearing a bike helmet, carrying a stick when I went places - expected the wall to fall. Then I went to the wall and told it not to fall. Now I go places and *do Not* expect walls to fall.

It is the same with 2012. If you expect the world will end, then you will gather data to support your belief. But if you see solutions for problems, then perhaps the world's end will be delayed, until one day, you cease to think about it. Watching TV leads you to believe that the world is a bad place, but is it really? I think the 2012 focus is the same.

Four out of Six of those issues were far worse before our generation, dear. The only two that are more 'serious' these days are Climate Change and Natural Resources, with both being heavily overblown issues that are not nearly as cataclysmic as some would say.

I do look at the world we live in, Dehlia. I smile at the little boy going out of his way to rescue a cat, the firefighter risking his life to save a woman in a burning fire, and a police officer just being on the line of duty. I use this time to honor these heroics, while rolling my eyes at all the newspapers and news stations that only focus on the negative aspects of life, or celebrities.

There is a lot of good in this world, as much as there is a lot of 'evil'. Ugh, I hate that word. So stupid. Anyway, Dehlia, you need to stop watching and/or reading the news. It's heavily flooded with the 'stuff that sells', and negative crap sells way more than positive heroics.

With some people, your assessment is probably right. It could probably be categorized into:
1). Boredom (As you've assessed).
2). Topic of interest.
3). Motiviational:
A). Disaster Awareness.
B). For Profit by evoking fear into the audience to bring a profitable result.

1) Overpopulation: Can you show me evidence this will cause the death of nearly the entire population on 12/21/2012? In fact, can you show me how this is as big as a problem as some people seem to make it out to be? Yes, some countries are 'getting crowded', but I'd like to blame individuals who can't keep their legs crossed on this one.

2) Food Shortages: This ties into your Overpopulation tag, pretty much involving the same thing. Major News Flash: This only affects underdeveloped countries, and ultimately individuals who cannot get off their lazy * long enough to stop blowing all their questionably gained currency on drugs and alcohol, thus leading into a spiral of starvation. Can you show me evidence this will cause the death of nearly the entire population on 12/21/2012?

3) General Waste of the Earth's Resources: Funny, I'm pretty sure we USE those resources. There is no 'waste' involved when it comes to the Earth's resources. And ugh, this is 'Peak Oil' all over again, which is such a heavy stroke of debate that discussing it again is pretty much pointless, but I'll touch on it briefly. As it stands, we are in no IMMEDIATE (Note: This is NOT happening by 12/21/2012, let alone within that general time frame) of suddenly finding ourselves with out any natural resources.

As it has been stated before, these resources are not going to magically disappear one day. What WILL happen is that extraction will not be able to keep up with demand, and crap will get bad for a while. The renewable resources will be then in demand, and the use of natural resources will diminish to the point that only what is needed for the renewable resources to be produced at a fast pace is needed.

Yes, this is a problem. Yes, there are efforts to fix and/or prevent it. Yes, people are taking it seriously. No, not enough people are taking it seriously. No, this won't kill us all anyway, ignoring the EXTREME CIRCUMSTANCES, but I do NOT acknowledge those. Yes, this should be a priority on the world's efforts on making sure it does not spiral out of control.

Ultimately, global warming/climate change is a two-pronged subject. While it is something we need to seriously keep aware of, it is also blown WAY out of the scope of realism by the right-winged individuals who want something done about it. It is much like 2012 in that regard that people take words and suddenly keep capslock on.

Sometimes I too think doom will hit us in 2012. There are so many reasons: overpopulation, foodshortages, general waste of the earths resourses, war, terrorism, climate change… You don't have to invent Niburu. but I guess it is easier to put the blame on the LHC, than facing the real problems.
