I remember that there is some prediction that at the speed the church is losing people going to Catholic church they church would be empty by 2013 in Belgium?
It does not mean that people became atheists, just that believe has almost no part in life any-more. I know no one that prays or reads the bible. No one I know talks about religion, god or something religious. Not at work, not when I was in school no where. Even Christmas is not really associated with religion any-more. People tend to go to the Christmas evening church, not because they believe but because it is some cultural thin, something romantic.

Don't get me wrong, some churches do get young people but these people tend to come from Poland or Italy or some Eastern European country.

Interestingly is that the Catholic church themselves are probably causing the decline in religion very fast.

OK I don't have the god gene, and never will, but Buddism is the closest to what I find logical.

I have not yet chose a path for myself, I have tried many and none fits what I am looking for, as you know from my other thread I am seriously looking into Buddhism :)

My opinion is: believe in some god is a necessity. There will be always someone creating his own god and creating some false proof that this god is real. The people have fearsor difficulties, so they need be "rescued" by some mysterious persona or await for a miracle, instead of rely reality. That's my opinion.

There is a study about this. The less religious countries in the world are the most developed. The first less religious is Sweden, the country with the best quality of life, environment and government, the second one is Vietnam. The third is Danmark, fourth Norway, fifth Japan, sixth is Czech Republic, seventh is Finland, eight is France, nineth South Korea and 10th is Estonia.
As you can see, almost all developed, except Vietnam. Perhaps do not believe in God is the best way of life…

As for me, I am a Roman Reconstructionist - reconstructing the ancient religion of Rome. (There are a number of us.) There are other reconstructionists who are Celtic or Norse or Greek… Norse are called Asatru (for starters). But again there are so many types and kinds out there, it is difficult to explain it all.

So yes, you can have a religion and still be involved in science.

1) Each Baptist Church is an entity in itself. There is no "pope" for the Baptists, like most other protestant Christian religions. Unlike many other branches there is no overarching church governing body (at least for most of the conventions).
2) The Baptists organize into 'conventions' based on their different beliefs. Some conventions are very liberal (there is even a branch called the Liberal Baptists), and some are very, very, very conservative.
3) The largest branch of the Baptists is the Southern Baptist Convention. They're way on the conservative side, but not (believe it or not) the most conservative.

I was raised in the (Liberal Yankee) American Baptist church, which split with the Southern Baptists over slavery. I currently attend an equally (or more) liberal Presbyterian church. As far as I can tell, there's not much difference in doctrine.
