I feel the same way about the internet. It is really great for getting the answer to almost anything in a few moments, yet it allows any screwball to tell any ridiculous lie and be believed by thousands of people. Also, as you said, any news, no matter how ordinary or insignificant it may be, gets spread around the world instantly. People are being bombarded with reports of things they were never aware of before, so it looks like some big change to them.
Don't worry about needing reassurance now and then. We'll be here and we don't mind.

This is why I come here too, and I check out the site and the forum on a regular basis. I like the rational explainations that I can find here. Believe me, I have been really scared (and I still am), and my life fell apart too. Honestly, I am still on medication for stomach problems caused by stress, and one of the factors was these doomsday rumors. They try to convince you that we live in a terrible world, and if you only look up the news on the internet, it indeed looks like it. But in fact, I am sure there lots of positive things going on, but those somehow never get any attention. If it weren't for the Internet, all these news would not spread so quickly. As much as I like the benefits of the Internet, I hate it at the same time and for the very reason that everyone can post everything, even if it's pure lie and even if they do so just to scare other people. In fact, the world has always been crazy ever since it started, only things spread much faster than they did. If something happens let's say in Japan, the next minute you can read about it even if you are in Canada. I am trying to be the rational one now, but very often I need lots of reassurance too that all these rumors are untrue.

The Illuminati/NWO is just nonsense. In my opinion, this is the worst and baseless claim they made for 2012. NWO means "New World Order". There was a kind of new world order after the second world war and with the cold war between USA and URSS. This word is being misused by the 2012ers always crying for attention.
The Illuminati does not exist at all. Ask to any conspiracy theorist why he/she thinks that the Illuminati exists. The conspiracy theorist will give you a "proof" that is not a proof at all, but it's enough to deceive someone gullible.

Don't worry about all the NWO/Illuminati nonsense. It is all just conspiracy theory bunk. There is no NWO and the Illuminati haven't existed for more than 200 years. There was once a group by that name in Bavaria, but it only lasted about 9 years and it wasn't a sinister cabal trying to take over the world. They were a fraternal organization and weren't any scarier than the Elks Lodge. Modern conspiracy theorists seem to be taking fiction as fact when they read the Dan Brown novels and others of that genre. The first President Bush (George H.W. Bush) used the phrase New World Order in a political speech back in the 1980's. It meant nothing, and was pretty much forgotten until the conspiracy theorists started going crazy over it.

I usually tend to lurk around here very often, but now I just had to post something. Thank you all, very very very much. When i first heard all the rumors my life just fell apart. I was depressed and anxious and scared and was even contemplating suicide. No one in my family could really understand why i felt that way since they all said 2012 is rubbish and they just thought i was crazy. They didn't really get the extent of my problems. It was affecting my studies and my mental state and it even came to me sleeping almost throughout the day and becoming fatigued and destroyed because of my depression. I was obsessed, I could not do any of the things i loved and even my Christian faith seemed to waver. (I have gotten better though…)

Then I found this site on Google and after reading through all your material and
some forum threads, I have gotten a lot better. I'm a lot happier nowadays and I am slowly learning to enjoy life again. Although stuff like the illuminati and new world order etc. comtinue to scare me sometimes - a whole lot more than 2012, in fact - I'm slowly, slowly trying to get over it all and this site was a huge, huge help and assisted in bringing my thoughts away from self-harm. I love you guys; I really do, and I would like to sincerely express my gratitude for all your work.

I hope to get my life completely back to normal soon after all the years of my obsessive fear and worrying, and though new news often pops up that freaks me out, I know I can depend on you guys to make rational sense of it all. Thank you again for your hard work and devotion to helping people get over this 2012 nonsense. Thank you.
