No culture or any of it's counterparts can predict events of the future, and that I am sure of! If the mayans could have predicted the future, they would have planned for being invaded by the spaniards, I would imagine! Anything you've read or heard about the mayan's predicting events or disasters is just something that comes from modern days and is the product of stretching and fabricating ideas to work with current ones that people want to portray.

I think way to many people put way too much thought into their calendar. Their calendar also has the ability to keep going on since its cyclical. We will never know what their intentions might've been when they inherritted this form of calendar from the Zapotec and Olmec civilizations in the Mesoamerican lands. They modified the calendar, but it was in no way their creation. People either chose not to believe this or forget this part of their history.

Hi, 1st things i would like to thank you ever so much for this website it has kept me calm over the past few weeks and months since i found it and i have even passed it on to other people who are abit anxious aswell that i know at work (i work and i'm worried bout something so silly and preposterous). i took it on myself to do my own research and look up proper website and i found it quite interesting to be honest history and archaeology has always been a little interest since i was i school.

But there is one little thing i over heard today while getting on with my day as normal, how much truth if any is in, that the maya predicted the japan earthquake last year?
im just wondering. it sounds a bit out there, but i thought id asked.
