When I heard about 12 dec 2012, I ignored it like any other rumor. But when noticed some school children developing too much of negative interest in it, I thought it could really become serious. Unfortunately some teachers do not have much information about the facts 2012 to explain and convince their students. They (like many) are still confused with NIBIRU of Sumerians, LONG COUNT CALENDER of Mayans and of course GALCTIC ALIGNMENT or GALACTIC CONJUNCTION by some irresponsible so called scintists. These scientific terminologies are hard to understand for everyone

The point is where to get the right information and whom to believe.

Why Governments are not making efforts to clarify or simplify this issue to general public.

I met a person who has taken it so seriously that he stated that he knows the reason why Governments and other responsible scientific organizations like NASA, ISRO etc are not talking about it. He said they want to keep it secret to avoid people get panic.
I even noticed it in internet that when you give search for '2012' you will find 'stories' more and 'truths' less.

I feel governments and its scientific organizations should say the truth in clear cut words and keep people away from such nonsense.

Even people should stop discussing about 'what is not going to happen' and spend a little time to know the scientific facts. we must spread proper information about this false apocalypse.

Hello, Raj.

I agree that these rumors and theories have been taken too far— Lying and saying that a book is sensational is one thing but scaring children to the point of no return is a completely different issue, which is what I try to get most sales persons/authors to understand. There's something more important here than money, popularity or even credibility.

Our children should be at the top of that list, not at the bottom.

The thing that makes these doomsayers dangerous with their stories or theories is that they take science fact and mix it with science fiction to the point where even a college professor would have a bit of trouble seeing the fine line between the two.

If a professor can be tricked, think about how it's effecting the children.

The government most likely will not step in because to them, this issue hasn't become problematic enough for an intervention. They would simply see it as a waste of resources.

I just hope that it gets better instead of worse.

Actually, I believe the 2012hoax website has an article compiled by scientific community members who are speaking out against December 21, 2012 predictions.

Dr. Johan Normark, a PHD Archaelogist If I remember right Tyson is an Astrophysist to name two.

Personally, I think that part of the reason why there's not a stronger counter by the scientific community is through the fact that some simple research into peer-reviewed journals or information on their website; there would be little need to speak out more.

Well, I like your optimistic tone, raj, but have you ever considered the possibility that these kids are "comedians"?

Everybody I know (outside the internet) thinks 2012 is a big joke. I've heard a bunch of highly original and very funny jokes about this. A bunch of them made YouTube and judging by the number of views, they're very popular. Watch some of the artists' other work and it will be plain to you what they are talking about. I've got the five-star favorite in my library.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson makes a great "straight-man".

Cops used to refer to juvenile delinquents as "comedians" but that was politically incorrect so they started calling them "actors". Professional comedians use somebody like The President for a target, he understands why they are saying these things, but a younger kid is more fun for some of these young people.

Usually humorous responses to these people is the best way to handle it, I think. Pretending to be dumb is a way sometimes for kids to bully adults.

What do we do with kids like this? If they are fortunate enough to look like Richard Nixon, President of the United States, and have enough money for lessons from Rich Little, they can become Richard Dixon, Resident of the United States. But few people look like that. If they're really good, they can be the real Rich Little and look and sound more like ANY original that the original himself!!
