I am only 11 years old and I'm really scared about 2012. But Ii have spent many many hours researching this. I have found that the Mayans never said that the world was going to end, it was just a starting of a new era and the Web Bot predicts things by searching the internet and seeing what is the most typed keyword. Remember, the Web Bot is not looking at any scientific evidence, it is just looking at what people are typing the most. And I also wanted to ask you if there is any evidence, and I really want an answer quick because I'm really scared. Thank you all so much!
No, there's no concrete evidence that any thing out of the ordinary will take place in 2012; let alone on December 21, 2012. Without concrete evidence, there is no reason to be afraid.
Hi Saumya,
No, there is absolutely no evidence that anything unusual will take place in 2012. The 2012 scenarios were invented (badly) by the doomsayers. The things they claim fit into one of these categories:
1) Can't happen (planets align in space)
2) Happen routinely and don't affect us (solar flares).
3) Happen over a period of thousands of years and don't affect us (geomagnetic reversal).
4) Don't exist (Nibiru/Planet X)
5) May happen someday, but no reason to say in 2012 or even in the next century (Yellowstone eruption, asteroid).
Don't worry. 2012 is the same as any other year. It just happens to be a convenient year chosen by the hoaxers after their previous doomsdays failed to happen.
don't worry kid. I'm 12 years old and i was just as scared as you. There is evidence.
1. Mayas never predicted any apocalyptic event since they NEVER clearly said it would be the end. I swear if right now u stepped foot in a Mayan village and asked about 2012, they wouldn't know wat ur talkin about.
2. The Bible clearly states( I'm Catholic and have been going to a Church since i was 6) that ONLY god knows when it will end.
3. If a plant/meteor/asteroid/comet was headed this way it would be able to be seen with the naked eye.
4. Nostradamus never specifcally said the date 2012, and that goes for I ching, mother shipton, and Hopi.
5. Thee have been over 100 predictions of the end.
6. We are so gullible, that NASA had to tell us the world would not end.
7.besides there are going to be earthquakes, floods, rain, snow, and everything in 2012 like there is EVERYyear!
I hope I helped! :D
The Bible says, "NO one knows the day nor the hour!"
People have been predicting the end of the world since the beginning of time! Don't be afraid, Little One. God Bless you!
Thank God someone is finally speaking the truth…where I live (NY) there is NO ONE- and I mean NO ONE (besides me) that doesn't think 2012 is a lie. They're all so convinced it is the end of the world…but I always ask them this: Where is the proof? And if its going to end, why are you applying to college? Why are you planning for a future that, according to you, will not come? I was beginning to believe them. THANK YOU FOR THE TRUTH!
you're very welcome! spread the word!

I personally think that the allignment will be a cosmicly cool sight. Thats it. There was also an
allignment in 1998. They were saying thet there will be earthquakes and disasters as well.
That was 11 years ago. The allignment happened, the disasters dod not. They made the movie
Tomb Raider out of that event.
I am also 11 years old and I was worried about this to. I did many hours of research and while some sites said it was true, most of the websites said it wasnt. My personal reason that I came up with is that they are trying to make money and that they acually want people to commit suicide because in some places the world is just becoming over-populated. A magnectic pole reversal takes a long time to happen, it doesnt just happen in a year it takes milllions of years. The planets may allighn up but think about it what does it really meen? It's not like OH MY GOSH THE PLANETS ARE IN A STRAIGHT LINE AHHHH!!! WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!, its more like Hey cool this only happens every few years lets enjoy it! And no there is NO scientific proof that the world will end in 2012 or even in any of our lifetimes. And this has happened before I mean things like pole reversals and planet alignment and they've said that the world was going to end a whole bunch of times! They make up a new apocolypse date every year and what I dont get is that they predicted that 2020 might be the end of the world and 2666 and so on but thats AFTER 2012 so how come they predicted apocolypse dates after the supposed apocolypse? Wow they are some dumb scientists then…
Hi Amanda,
I'm glad you have found that the wild claims being made about 2012 are not true. I agree with most of your points, but I would like to point out that the people who are making the claims about a 2012 apocalypse are not scientists. They are economists, artists, and authors. No real scientist is making any such claims. I know of three well known scientists who have made videos debunking 2012. Neil DeGrasse Tyson, the head of the Hayden Planetarium has one on YouTube, as does Donald Yeomans of NASA/JPL. NASA scientist David Morrison has one on the NASA Ask an Astrobiologist site.
Thank you Alene, for mentioning Dr. Neil Tyson. Besides being informative, he's very entertaining.
Amanda, watching his videos—you'll laugh as you learn. And good job being able to separate the facts from the idiocy.
Yes there is scientific evidence that the world will end. Fortunately this is due to happen when the Sun reaches the end of it's main sequence stage, in approx. 5 Billion years. Any other prediction of an event that could end the world is not based on any evidence or reason, and should be dismissed as pure bunk. It is certainly not possible to put a date to any. So please don't get upset by those idiots who do not understand science or reason. When in doubt find out.
shut up there is no evidence the world has been hit with plenty of splar flares the atmophere just dissapates it
Hi Tyler;
If your comment is directed at Polyfemus, I have to tell you that he is essentially correct. The "end of the world" will not occur before 5 billion years from now, when our sun expends its Hydrogen fuel and expands to become a red giant. At that point it may or may not engulf the earth, which would indeed be the end. We currently can't tell if it will or not, it's about 50/50 either way. Mercury and Venus are doomed, Mars is probably safe, but Earth? Hard to say.
This process is very different than a solar flare. Solar flares are explosions that occur on the surface of the sun. These may generate Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) which can cause problems here on earth ( look up the "carrington event" ) but not the "end of the world".
As far as the end of life on earth, that will most likely occur within 1 to 2 billion years, as the sun ages and grows hotter. Within 2 billion years the Earth will be so hot that it will not have any liquid water. That will most likely end all life on Earth (unless we figure out a way to engineer its orbit outward).

That's the only end of the world prediction we know for sure will come true, but as you say, it's not for about 5 billion years, long after we're gone. And, in cosmic terms, it will be relatively gentle. At the end of it's red giant stage, the Sun will slough off it's gas in layers, leaving a white dwarf and what is sure to be a lovely planetary nebula. It would be really cool to see that happen. :)
You're correct, Keith.
4 and a half to 5 Billion years. Sadly I was hoping to go to Europe on that date. Hmm.. Guess my plans are canceled!
Relax and ask your parents where you will go on vacation in 2013.
There's no scientific proof that shows the world will end, but PLENTY of scientific evidence that shows the planet will be just fine. Rest easy. :)
I notice tons of young children coming onto this forum scared.I was 17 two years ago when I first found out about 2012 and very frightened.I still get scared and sick about it from time to time.I am and always was a nervous person about a lot of things. If I was like under 12, I would've been one of the youngest people to die of a heart attack from the stress.
