hasnt there been theories throughout history claiming 2012? what are those based on? who had those ideas?
1.Nope I don't think so..
2.Well if there are/where any I think they would be based on mythology/religon.
3. No ones as far I know.
Or do you mean the mayan's?
2012 - The year of the jackpot.
What do the Mayans say?
They say that it was not predicted by them and that it is a western idea. Here is an article where a Mayan elder comments on it.

Well the Mayans did'nt say anything about the end of the world in 2012, but how ever there calendar ends or resets on dec 21 2012 but that is the exact same thing with our calendar on dec 31 2009.
And why people think the mayans predicted the end of the world in 2012 is because of a big mishunderstanding of there calendar.
They did not predicted the end of the world in 2012 or in any other year and that is the real truth. :)

2012 - The year of the jackpot.
You're correct, Simon.
The only portion of the Maya that points to 2012 is their calendar which says absolutely nothing about any extinction level events.
Contrary to popular belief, the long-count calendar doesn't necessarily end but rather restarts, if you will. Much like our modern-day calendars.
As Simon has already stated, my calendar currently ends on December 31st, 2009, does this mean that the world will end in 2009? Absolutely not.
As I've stated numerous times before, some people of each generation hold a firm belief that their generation will be the last generation. Stories and predictions of extinctions and Armageddon and apocalypse and so on has been in circulation since the dawn of man.
The most popular source for evidence of a coming apocalypse is the Bible, despite the Bible literally saying that no one, not even Jesus will know the date or time of the end of the world, people still use the Bible as evidence.
The evidence usually consists of floods, Tsunami-like events, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, major storms and/or hurricanes, natural disasters, basically.
The flaw that all of this has as "evidence" is simply this; Each and every one of those occurrences in the Bible can be related to both current events and events in the history of the Earth.
As for others saying anything about 2012 in the past— I haven't seen any predictions from the past, not even from the famous Nostradamus.
