Hello, Nikki.
Before the 2012 thing came around, any and all doomsday documentaries were mostly on the Discovery Channel, I remember the Discovery Channel having a "destructive evening" every other night. Some of their shows consisted of the fall of the dinosaurs and some of their shows consisted of theoretical doomsday's and prophecies, predictions, so on.
In 1999 the Discovery Channel held either one or two hours of a documentary of the year 2000, some of which claimed that Nostradamus predicted that the year 2000 was the end of the world and of course many of the other claims.
How ever now it's the History Channel broadcasting such television shows where as the Discovery Channel now mainly broadcasts other shows such as Storm Chasers, Myth Busters, so on.
The History Channel now consists of shows such as the Nostradamus Effect, Ten Ways to Destroy the Earth, Countdown to Doomsday and many others that are similar.
In a simple word; No, the History Channel (to my knowledge) didn't broadcast doomsday documentaries back then, but the Discovery Channel did broadcast them.
If my memory stays true to me; I remember that the Discovery Channel didn't over-play the broadcasts so when they did broadcast the doomsday broadcasts, their ratings sky-rocketed.
And now the History Channel is doing the same thing.
The History Channel had a change in management a couple of years ago. They are now showing sensationalistic garbage to attract more viewers. It's all about ratings and money. They were still having actual history programs at the other times the end of the world was predicted.
I don't really know but I thnk that it's because it is some history involved in it, like mayan calander e.t.c .
Can some one answer this question for me, the national geagraphic channel said this.
''Sould we take the mayan profetcie serious, after all they predicted the world war one and the tsunami in 2006, will the world end in 2012?.''
Did the mayans predict any off that?
2012 - The year of the jackpot.
No, Simon.
Many ancients and even elders of our time speak of floods and tornadoes and hurricanes because the fact is this;
These things have been going on before our species and they will continue to happen after our species.
If some ancient speaks of a flood and then your basement floods tomorrow, do you think that they predicted it or were they simply telling a story of a flood that had occurred in their time?
As far as I know they didn't predict any of that stuff.
I looked it up and it seems that the national georapich channel qouets the internet :P
This is a frase from the show.
''Some internet sites contains information of value, alot of them explains why nostradamus and the mayans could see the future, bla bla bla''
It's crap. :D
2012 - The year of the jackpot.
The reason for the the change in the History Channels programming policy is quite simple. Money. Serious documentaries don't pull in as many viewers as sensationalistic garbage. This can be traced back to a change in the network president a few years ago.
As far as prophecies are concerned, you will never be very far wrong if you dismiss all such claims. It is simply not possible to foretell the future. All you can do is guess. People like to make up all sorts of claims of successful predictions in the past, but if you try and verify that these predictions actually took place before the event, you will fail.
At the moment the Mayans are the new Nostradamus. People make all sorts of wild claims about what they predicted. In reality, they predicted the seasons and when to plant their crops.
thanks for your answers :)
i hope the mayans didnt predict world war 1 and when the tsunami was gonna hit :S:S
I don't think they did but when some guy on the internet said they did then maybe the history/geograpich channel see a chance to make money of it and then use that web page as there source in the show, I dont know.
As far as I know, the mayans did'nt predicted those two events.
