There is no such thing as the universe "resetting" itself, and we are nowhere near having the universe end. Just in our Solar System, the Sun (at 4.5 billion years old) is only halfway through its main sequence stage. It has several billion years to go before it enters its red giant stage. Even that wouldn't affect the universe. Just remember that the whole 2012 nonsense was made up by people selling books, not by scientists. There were no ancient prophecies about 2012 either. These were made up by the scammers along with their impossible scenarios for the end of the world. 2012 has no more chance of being the end of the world than 2009, 2100, or 4999. The doomsayers have no scientific background whatever and no actual scientist agrees with them.
It is the same thing as if you decided you wanted to write a book about the end of the world. You would need to come up with a date far enough in the future that you could sell your book for several years, but close enough to scare people. So you look around and decide that 2017 is about right. Even though solar eclipses have no effect on us, there is one visible in the U.S in 2017, so you make up a bunch of impossible stuff, throw in some scientific sounding words, and you're getting rich while scaring the heck out of naive kids. Your end of the world scenario would have the same amount of truth to it as the 2012 one.
