Every time I calm myself down and reassure myself nothing would happen, I find something new. I know it's annoying that I keep asking you questions, but I can't be completely relaxed.

1. Is it true that we're overdue for an ice age, and we could enter it in 2012 in a fast freeze scenario? You said the claims about a pole shift are not true, but do the other things said here make any sense?

2. Does a completion of the sun's 11,500 or 25,000 years circle occur in 2012?

3. This guy freaks me out. According to Wiki, he predicted correctly the election of pope Benedict. Does he know what he's talking about? Should we take his predictions seriousely? He doesn't claim the end of the world will come, but he does say millions will die including the pope Peter.

1. Ice ages take centuries to occur. There's no such thing as a 'fast freeze' taking 3 years. The web reference you give is an anonymous article giving no references, so the author can and does make up whatever he wants. A few spot checks will soon reveal this. He says 'Stapleton's Antarctica shack is now under 90' of snow and ice.' Conte is a good example of a cherry-picking fraud. It's interesting that the page you reference, although allegedly last updated on 11th November 2006, contains nothing dated before 2010. 2009 looks to have been a bad year for predictions. President Hillary Clinton?
So there you have it. The conclusion is the same as before. Don't waste your time with these fraudsters.

The guy in the 2012 Online blog entry mentions the destruction of Atlantis like it's a fact. That should clue you in on what total hogwash it all is.

Another thing - I've read on the 2012 forum that the government is now spending more money to study Yellowstone, and that scientists recently discovered their knowledge of volcanoes is not as good as they thought. Is it true, and should we be worried about it?

Hm… quite a mix here…

As far as the "spending more money" bit… yes, the government is "spending more money" to study yellowstone… along with a thousand other research projects that languished under the Bush administration, all part of the stimulus package.

So it is misleading to say that they are "spending more"… they are "spending more" than Bush did, but not as much as the science programs used to get decades ago. It has nothing to do with 2012.

The 'state of the art' as far as Yellowstone's vulcanology is concerned: At this point in time we can't tell if the deformation of the Yellowstone caldera is due to the magma chamber heating/filling, or cooling/emptying. We don't know if another caldera forming eruption will occur there or not. It could be that it will, and if it does it could happen within the next several thousand years. On the other hand, it could be that the North American plate has moved far enough that the mantle plume is now burning a hole through a new spot under Kansas or something, and that it will take several million years for it to burn through.

So, yes it is a concern, but long term, not near term.

By "the prophecy of the popes" I assume that you mean the "Saint Malachy" prophecy?

The "prophecy" is probably a 16th century hoax that was attributed to a 12th century monk in order to advance the chances of a certain Cardnial being elected pope. We cover this on the 7 reasons page.

When at the earliest could Yellowstone erupt? In my last thread someone said super volcanoes could potentially erupt without a warning, so what do you think are the odds of it happening anytime soon? 0.01% or less? When you say a "long term" concern do you mean a few decades or a few centuries?

Yes, I know that it's probably a forgery, but it's still a depressing thought. When it says "the end", do they say everyone will die, or do they mean "the end" in a religious way of Jesus returning and stuff like that?

Can you estimate the probability of the large hadron collider somehow producing dangerous magnetic monopoles or vacuum bubbles? Because scientists can be wrong sometimes. Is it like one in a billion or so? Or can cosmic rays suddenly go higher than the known limit of 10^20 and thus create a vacuum bubble?

I think NASA had an article about Yellowstone.

ut the yellowstone will not erupt in 2012, not before 2100 I belive, I watched a show about yellowstone the other night and yes if it would erupt then it wouls casue huge damage but it is stable rigth now and wont erupt for a long long time.
