i remember this thing on nasa where you type in a date and time and it will show you what our solar system will look like on that date what is the link to get to it?

http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/?orbits has links to several such places on NASA, for instance http://space.jpl.nasa.gov/ shows solar system without comets and asteroids (but with spacecraft) at a specified time.
I remember I was using an applet which was able to interactively scroll time step by step and showed asteroids, it was about three years earlier, and now I can't recall where exactly (yet).

Maybe this is the one: JPL Small-Body Database Browser results for Eros (results for other objects are possible).
There's an Java applet on a page which shows orbit diagram. It requires you to enable Java in your web browser (when you enable Java for the first time, some web browsers ask you to download their own Java package).
If you are using Opera, for example, you go Tools - Preferences - Content, and there set 'Enable Java', and press 'Ok'. It will direct you to the Java package for Opera download page of it isn't installed yet. I suppose there are similar procedures for other web browsers.
