Hi I was at school today and in my class people were talking about the movie 2012 that they saw in theaters and they were all saying we are going to die in 2 years and when i told them that it was a hoax they asked me how I know and I told them because NASA said it wont and I told them that there's a site called 2012hoax.org and they told me they just say its a hoax so you don't think about until the day in 2012 where the world is suppose to end, comes and then we die. I went home crying and I suffer from anxiety so you can imagine what I am going through
Hi Jeff,
I can understand why that scared you, but stop and think about it. We are individuals from different countries around the world. Some of us are scientists and some are not. None of us works for NASA or the government. That would be a bit jumbled since we live in 5 different countries on 3 continents.
We aren't selling anything or advertising on our site. What motive could we possibly have for doing this other than to help kids like you who are being frightened by the hoaxers with their scare stories? If we were your parents or teachers, or working for the government, that might make sense, but we aren't.
Also, all you need to do is read the pages on the things that have you concerned. We aren't just saying, "It's a hoax" and expecting you to accept that. We are explaining point by point why these things can't happen, and we give a bibliography at the bottom of each page. Your friends are giving you nothing but scare stories with no logic to support them.
hey jeff,
i know how you feel. your friends are making you believe it's real. i know people who believe in this 2012 stuff, but that doesn't change my opinion. don't worry jeff. your friends are wrong and you are right. and if they believe it's real, just let them go ahead and waste there lives thinking about it.
I've been there to, just ignore them. You know the truth they don't. They are just a bunch of brain washed idiots, if they don't stop after you've talked to them then show them this site.
2012 - The year of the jackpot.
Hi simon I showed them the site and they showed me a site saying that 2012 is real and they keep saying the same thing what do I do?
so basically it doesn't matter what you say, you're not going to convince them.
Your audience now becomes the people that they might otherwise convince. So, ask them for their evidence. If they point you to a web site, go through it, and compare the way they present their arguments with the way that we present our arguments.
Come to the dark side, we have citations!
If they can't clearly cite the source for their information, then their information becomes an unsupported assertion. We try to cite our sources. We also use the information under the Detecting BS to try to parse out information from nonsense.
Don't give up. It can be tough being a candle in the darkness. By the way, Carl Sagan's book "A Demon Haunted World: Science as a candle in the dark" is an excellent resource. Your school library might have a copy.
Tell them if they really believe that much in it, then give you all their stuff prior to 12/21/12, because they're not going to need it when The End comes. Let's see how committed they are to this proposition. :D
Hi Jeff
Ask your friends why it's only kids and a few new-age weirdo adults with their crank websites who believe this stuff. What makes them think that they have information that the vast majority of the adult world doesn't have? Wouldn't the end of the world be the first item on the TV news? Wouldn't it be plastered across the front pages of all the newspapers? Wouldn't there be chat shows with people discussing what to do? Ask your friends if their parents have quit their jobs and are going to spend their life savings on round-the-world cruises. Haven't they let their parents in on this knowledge? Or have their parents laughed and told them to get on with their homework.
If you want to post a link to this '2012 is real' website that they showed you, we'll have a look and tell you why it's wrong.
2012 official countdown heres the link
Edited by Administrator: Hi; I don't know if this is Jeff or not, but we're familiar with that site. It is a complete scam. They want $50 to send you a 'report'. They say that they charge the money just so it is "valuable".
