I just heard that the reason why Florida, Virginia, Washington D.C. and other places likes those are getting snow is because the poles are getting ready to switch, is that correct?

No.

First of all, the poles are not getting ready to switch. That's completely false. See the Magnetic Pole Shift and Rotational Pole Shift pages for more detail.

Second, even if a so-called 'pole shift' was imminent, why would the climate change ahead of the shift?

Third, the severe weather in those areas is unusual, but not unheard of. I remember as a kid in the 70s hearing about the Orange crop in Florida freezing, causing a price spike in oranges and orange juice.
