OK, this article's not a hoax, it's for real. However, this is certainly not imminent. Not only is Gliese 710 not due to arrive for a million and a half years, but also any comets perturbed by this interloper will take tens of millions of MORE years to reach the inner solar system.
Random stars do drift by our Solar System. Astronomers have found one of them. WISE (Widefield Infrared Survey Explorer) might find more.
You might want to check out my post in the Nemesis blog - click on the link to the left under "Doomsday Objects". I think there is a "Nemesis" object (it'll have to be renamed because asteroid # 128 is called Nemesis) that is 5-25 Jupiter masses and is in a long, looping orbit with a period of 26 million years. And I think an object like Gliese 710 (though certainly not Gliese 710 itself) pulled the Nemesis object out into this orbit about 500 million years ago.
