The 2012 issue is just the way by which simple minded people express their feelings of lack of safety and their deep beliefs that our civilization is under serious threats,…they can not digest complicated theories and philosophies,so they adopt Myths instead of them.
They didn't get these beliefs from the Maya calender,but from the daily news and the corrupt systems they deal with in their daily life,..that's why it is in vain,all the efforts which are made now to convince people that there will be no serious earthquakes and asteroids hitting the earth in 2012,because this is not what really makes them worried.
Without facing the real issue which is the threats upon human civilization(no matter the dates or the causes are),..no one will be able to prevent the Myth of 2012 from spreading more and more every day.

To a certain extent, I agree with you.

The "2012 issue" is an invention. There are certainly some 'true believers' who truly think that 2012 marks either the 'end of the world' or some kind of 'transition' (to a higher dimension, to a new consciousness, or whatever), but the majority of people pushing the 2012 concept are in it for money… they do not believe what they are saying, any more than the used car salesman believes that it was only driven on Sundays by a little old lady from Pasadena.

I agree that people are seizing on the 2012 date out of a more generalized fear and worry prevalent in society. However, getting them to "face the real issue" is not going to save people between now and December 21st, 2012. I try to debunk the "2012" rumor, and then (if I succeed in convincing someone that 2012 is a red herring) I try to enlighten them in some of the real dangers.

People are funny sometimes. They will be scared to death of a Mayan calendar, but get in the car and drive with the doors unlocked, or the seat belt unbuckled.

So, I realize that this site is (as one early commentator put it) "throwing rocks at the moon", and that it will do very little to stem the overall fear of 2012. I can't help that.

What I can do is find one person who is scared of 2012, show them that 2012 is fake, and by doing so introduce them to the scientific method, and critical thinking. Then I find the next one, and the one after that…

Where did you get this studies that civilization will collapse i really dont understant you ppl sometime just let it goooooooooooooooooooo. If you are talking about ppl going crazy well many are there and have been for years so what are you talking about civilization is going to calapse that so new to me. Hey good luck on your game Collapse of civilazation. Magdy are you a doctor if yes give us prof that all we want sheeeeeeeeesh.
