I am the mommy of 2 little girls and I'm afraid they won't make it to adulthood. I even want to have another baby, but not if the world is just gonna end in 2012. Why are yall so certain it'll be a regular year, when all kinds if galatic eclipses and alignments are supposed to happen, that the world isn't going to end? The Mayans were supposed to be great asrologers.

You need to go through the site and read the pages about the things that have you concerned. We aren't just saying "We think it isn't true, so believe us." We give the scientific reasons why these thing can't or won't happen. We also show our sources. Many of us are scientists. You are taking the word of crackpots who know so little about science that they don't even know how ludicrous their claims are. We have eclipses every year. There are no actual planetary aligments. What we call planetary alignment is just how they appear in our view of the sky. Even that isn't happening in 2012. If the planets could and did align from the Sun outward, the only effect on us would be to raise the tides by less than the width of a human hair. The only galactic alignment in 2012 is the apparent alignment that occurs on the December solstice every year. The Maya didn't predict that the world would end. Their calendar doesn't even end. It just starts a new cycle. It wouldn't matter if they were great astrologers. Astrology is not science. It is superstition. Perhaps you mean they were great astronomers. They were pretty good astronomers for their time, but it really doesn't matter because they didn't ever say anything was going to happen. Just go to the pages, click the item on the menu at the left of the page and go read the actual science, rather than garbage being spewed by people wh oare trying to sell you books and doomsday junk. The world is NOT going to end in 2012. There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that 2012 will be anything other than an ordinary year.

Nobody can predict the future. These people who are predicting a 'doomsday' in 2012 use wild claims to scare people into thinking that their ideas are true. They throw everything into the '2012 pot'. Every crackpot 'alien invasion', or 'scientists gone mad' scenario, every ancient culture that ever existed, and some that didn't (like Atlantis), every comet, planet, star or asteroid ever mentioned… they all go into this 'theory' (which is a gross misuse of the word, by the way).

I can't tell you what will happen in 2012. I can tell you that the claims that these people make are just wrong. That's why this site uses the approach of tackling the claims one by one. We try to take each individual claim and show why it is incorrect, like how Nancy Lieder ignores the well known effects of gravity when she makes her claims about Planet X.
