Could the fear of 2012 or anything like it, be due to a chemical imbalance in the brain?? The reason I ask, is because most people I know who are worried about it, including me and my brother, we're worried about it for a couple weeks really bad…then we look at it like "We'll why would the government make plans for the 2020's if they knew something" or "How would the Maya from 5000(or whatever) years ago, know or see something that scientist today don't"…..

Just wondering….

I'm so glad you asked this, because I acctually think that chemical imbalances in the brain CAN be a reason for unproportional amount of fear regarding things like this. At least in my case it has been proven that the reason to why I'm so reluctant to let go of this subject is due to the aforementioned chemical inbalance. Or to be more specific, I was diagnosed with OCD about a month ago and this subject really have taken up all my time since I saw that riddiculous 2012 movie.

But just as you, I'm now able to look at all these stupid claims with a new set of eyes and by doing so realize that there really isn't anything out there for us to fear (except for the sun "running out of fuel" in a couple of billion years or so). Although this have taken much time, I don't really feel sorry for time spent on this. If anything this have thought me to be more selective in what I as an individual choose to listen/react to, and not listen to all kinds of bs that is out there on the web.

Even though it saddens me that this terrible ordeal have effected people in so many different ways, it also feels somawhat comfortable to know that I'm not the only one going through this

I, as well, have and extreme case of OCD. But the fear of 2012 to me is all to real. There is part of me that thinks a bunch of hogwash, but there is a part of me that feels like each day that ticks by, is one day closer to our demise. I try to look at it from a common sense type stand point, but sometimes it is really hard…..I want it to be a hoax so bad….

I know what you mean=( Even though I'm able to dismiss most claims as pure sci-fi it still doesn't really help me with the anxiety. It seems like I can't shake the feeling that where not out of the wodds yet, and as you said, every day seem to bring us closer to the inevitable. But, all we (all of us that have fallen bad for this cruel hoax) really can do is to try to look at the lack of evidence from proponents and the wast amount of evidence from proponents. As TheGreatJuju, Alene, Bikenbeer2000, Astrogeek, UndeadXnurse and all the other great guys at this forum says: There is acctually no evidence whatsoever that something bad is going to happen in 2012.

Also, I don't know how old you are but you might remember previous "prophecies" that kind of fell short? Take a look at this link, it gives me some reasurance when I feel like this 2012 hysteria is real just because everyone talks about it: http://www.abhota.info/end1.htm.

I bet this whole episode will be remembered as an updated version of the great scare, and we'll all be able to look back at the prophecies and laugh at our gullibillity (is that a word?=). Sadly we're not there just yet, but as time goes by I think that we'll be able to look past this hoax and see it for the money-making scam that it really is…

I'm 24, Richard, and the only one I remember is Y2K. I hjad never even heard about 2012 until my best friend told me about the History Channel show, and my obsession took off. I think it seems so real because they have used stuff such as the Maya calendar and natural diasters, like earthquakes and volcanoes and pole shifts….Now everytime I hear about a quake or a volcano or even hurricane season, my anxiety goes thru the roof. Most of my family and friends think I;m nuts for even giving it a second thought. I was raised devout baptist and my family says because I believe the 2012 hoax could be real, that i am doubting Jesus because he promised Noah to never destroy the world again and he said :No mans knows not the day nor the hour. Neith the Son nor the Angels in Heaven"…..I'm just confused. The people on this site that you named above are very helpful and full of knowledge…This site does help me on my bad dyas. How old are you, Richard, if you don't mind my asking? My brother is 21 and he is terrified of it too…..

We are in the same boat Laura. I too get spooked whenever a new natural diaster comes up. But if you think rationally… These kind of stuff happen all the time! And how is it that some people can see the future while others can't? And how do the so claimed "oh the government is covering this up! im showing you the evidence!" exist without being covered up?

Ah, looks like we're almost the same age then (I'm 23). I think the reason why I've gotten so obsessed with this, and why it scares me so much, is because all the computer animations showing how terrible it will be when 2012 finally arrives. And the movie 2012 kind of visualized the oncomming events. Thankfully, I found this site and managed to, more or less, get things straight. It was a great relief having some credible guys, for once, talk about how extremelly far-fetched all the claims really are.

But I recognize what you say about earthquakes and so on, they really frigthen me too. I had a period where I checked all the available statistics to see if something wasn't right, and sure enough, convinced myself that it in fact pointed at something being wrong. In my head it all made total sense, but to everyone else I was talking pure nonsense. Now, when I've finally managed to look at this in a more objective way I see that nothing unusual is going on. I've also realised that nature doesn't function like a clockwork, which statistics show. Some years earthquakes go up, and some year they go down. The same goes for almost everything. And as for catastrophes happening now, nothing seems to be out of the ordinary=)

And I know the feeling, my family also seems to think that I'm crazy (well, perhaps I can admit to being just a little bit crazy=) but the thing that saddens me is that people seem to think that this is a subject of my choosing, as if I asked for this to come and interfere with my life.

Astrogeek, this site provides more than just a little relief to me=) When I first started freaking out I had really nowhere to go, since almost every site on the internet made some claim of an impending doomsday. But then I found this site, which almost was like a lifesaver to me. I am really grateful for the time and effort you guys put into this page, and into answering the flood of questions that pops up frequently. I was wondering though, would it be ok to link to this page from my blog? I'm thinking about writing a little bit about my experience of this whole doomsday scare, and since there aren't that many debunking pages in swedish that I can link to it would be really helpful if I could link to this one (to redirect those that are frightened to a credible source)

The oils spill really freaked me out since I live on the East Coast!!

My family also likes to play on the "attention card", which is kind of sad really. If anything, I would like this all to just go away and my life to return back to normal.

I can see why that scares you, it's really tragic that something like that could even happen. But hopefully the situation will be under control soon, but the worst thing is that it will take time before things start to look brighter…

Yes, that is a frequent whish of mine too. But as you said, things just doesn't work that way. The only thing to get over this, atleast for me, is to try and educate me on the claims (and thereby realize that they are silly). This actually works quite well, but it is time consuming=) By the way, Yes I am a Swede (which is nice because when I visit international sites like this one I can blame my poor spelling on the fact that I'm from Sweden=)

I think you and your website are apart of a HUGE cover-up…and I think with all the pertinent info you have ,you MUST be Governmentally connected. To little to late !! Your site is VERY SUSPICIOUS and has way to much information for just being a regular site.I guess we will all find out the truth eventually,so deflect from the truth,WHY NOT!!!! ,YOU and your kind (POLITICIANS & GOVERNMENT) have been deceiving the public for centuries. I am quite sure there will be other ways, that this issue will try to be pushed aside, while other catastrophes are being thought up, to deflect people from knowing the REAL truth. Paid well, by WHOM? At least I'm not paid by the U.S. government, because I'm not even American. I personally make a couple of hundred euros per month, and that's it. A fairly large part of that money goes for rent. The rest is more or less equally balanced between phone bills, electric bills, internet bills, food, transportation (I don't have a car, I ride the bus) and so on.

Yeah, so please, somebody pay me more! I really could use the money.
