It all started many many years ago, when I was young and was a frequent player or neopets (a kids site where you adopt a virtual pet and take care of it). I must have been about 7 or 8.
On the website there was a neoboards thing where you could chat with other neopet players. The certain part of the forum I used to go on was full of stupid spam but it was all silly stuff there.
Someone ten minutes ago had posted a topic called 'The world is ending in 1 minute!' so I thought I'd go point out that it was nine minutes ago now and nothing had happened, trying to be clever. But when I viewed the topic, soemone else had already posted. Their message read "No it isn't. The world is ending in 2012."
Without further ado, I switched the computer off and ran downstairs feeling horribly sick with a stomach ache. I ran into mum and said "I feel really ill!!" then rushed to lie on the couch. I was petrified already.
Maybe 6 months later we did a Science project about planets at school. We were given a list of useful websites to research about planets. One of these websites had a big picture of the earth with a red object flying towards it and the subtitle '21st December, 2012'. I was so scared but did nothing.
For a while I just prayed it wouldn't happen every night, and hid from 2012.
Then the movie came out. I remember seeing a commercial and feeling so scared. I went to see a different movie and saw a wall-sized poster for the movie. I plucked up to the courage to say to my friend "That's scary, right?" and she shrugged and went "um yeah.". I did not feel reassured!
Since then I just kept away from 2012. I couldn't bring myself to even write those numbers. I used to type the number '2' into google and then remembered close my eyes to type the rest of it as I couldn't bear reading the search suggestions.
Then today I found a question about 2012 on Y!A. I clicked on it and discovered about this 'Mayan calendar'. I realized there was something behind this weird theory, 2012, and started to research. Luckily I found this site and now my fear is so much less. It's amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! somehow I am still miniscule-ly scared, and pray it won't happen everyday, but I'm sure my fears will be gone soon. :)
I LOVE YOU GUYS.

Hi Ame. :)
Not to deviate from your story, but Neopets was the place to be a few years ago. Granted, I was a young adult (still am), but that game was great.
I have a good friend who has gone through this as well, he too had trouble even typing/writing or reading the number 2012 or just 12.
To be frank, it really sucks that these rumors are scaring people and the people who are doing the scaring are profiting from this. I can't say that I've shared your fear because I really haven't, when I first heard of 2012 and people running scared, I thought that it was amusing, at best, but I did a little more reading and discovered that it wasn't just adults who were running scared, but kids as well and the kids are the only reason that I decided to take the matter much more seriously, trauma comes in more forms than just one and a traumatic experience for a child can have severe consequences.
I'm glad that the 2012hoax team's site was able to help, I've been recommending it to quite a few people myself.

Hi Ame;
Thank you for sharing this story. I think it is important for people to realize how much this is affecting people. It is the stories like this that motivate many of us to keep producing new content for the website.
