VonHelton has posted this video, which paints the colorful tale of Homeland Security and the 82nd Airborne being mobilized to deal with the arrival of alien visitors. As usual, the connection to "aliens" is asserted, not supported, and I can't find any indication that the 82nd Airborne has actually been mobilized as claimed. All of the sources for the story seem to circularly reference one another.
What got my attention was the comment below. It is actually kind of disturbing, though I have no way to know whether the poster is just entertaining himself like jcattera or whether he's serious.

there is no way we can be any steps ahead in this one we will just have to be at are best abilities. be ready the best we can. have no fear and fight with confidence power and love in defending are beings. mercy will not be shown to us. but we shall show mercy as we fight with love and freedom this is the power of light .lets hope it dose not come to this but this is a real option. this is most probable thing why els 300 miles long . INDIPENDENCE DAY thats what this reminds me off
In the video, VonHelton at first urges his viewers to stay calm, but then moments later he himself declares, "Speaking strictly for me, if they so much as twitch an antenna, I'm lighting their &&&&&&& &&& up."
Von and others like him have made similar declarations before. All is made worse by this article from FOX News, which is written in a manner fit for a tabloid. Reuters fans the flames in their own way. So not only do we have woo artists making claims about alien visitors playing with nukes, but we have mainstream news outlets failing to report with due skepticism. Predictably, the woo community is in an uproar.
The original video by conspiracy theorist SmokinJoeTrainer has been removed, and one blog claims he retracted his declaration about the 82nd Airborne being mobilized. Yet, hilariously, an attempt is made to create a new conspiracy theory about the original conspiracy theory being wrong.
"Probably somebody down the line wanted to see how fast this story was disseminated."
I know the idea of 2012 being a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy, in terms of certain individuals and groups feeding each other b.s. and becoming hysterical, isn't new. If I recall, it has been kicked around here once or twice. Above and beyond the obvious fear that these woo-woo fictions generate, which we've seen played out in multiple threads, is anyone concerned that some of these doomsayers and conspiracy claimants might become violent? Proponents like VonHelton seem perfectly willing to issue calls to arms, and they do so on the basis of absolutely nothing but imagination. I also suspect that just about everyone here has been accused at least once of being a "disinfo agent" or government plant.
By no means do I intend to further a scare scenario of my own, but I am increasingly unsure as to what should be dismissed as nationalistic or tough-guy bravado, and what might indicate an actual willingness to get stupid.
The good news is that I think we're talking about a sliver of a tiny segment of the population, but it's a loud segment, at least on the Internet.
