I've been doing good with my anxiety, but lately its come back. Could you guys help me with a little reassurance? Thanks!
The thought of all of it has bothered me. I think the LHC talk and my dog dying brought it on. Just seems worse than before. All the claims have got me thinking about it.
Hi Laura,
I can sympathize. Recently, I had to put our young cat (we called her Tigress) out of her misery. I'd raised her since she came to my place with her mother as a terrified little stray kitten, back in May. It took my wife and me months to win Tigress over and tame her. Just when Tigress had finally become well and truly "ours", someone poisoned her (apparently with strychnine). Tigress was so crazed with pain that she tried to attack me, until she suddenly realized who I was, and backed off. Then she was a good kitty, and made it easy for my to give her a clean, quick end. (I know Tigress felt nothing, but it looked very bad, so it was pretty traumatic for me to have to do it to my poor dear little kitty.)
So, yes, I feel for you. But my kitty and your pooch are off to a better place, and now we need to help you. One of the regulars here, RickardM, has written some good stuff on the LHC the last few days, starting with a response to this "Devil's Advocate" post of mine. What his responses boil down to is that every time you see the Moon up in the sky, it will remind you that there's nothing to fear from the LHC.
Hope this helps, and I'm very sorry about your dog. The story about Tigress notwithstanding, I'm really a dog person at heart.

Jessica posted this good article on the LHC:http://www.physorg.com/news139467844.html
It's always going to bother you somewhat. It bothers me, very rarely, at times. Usually when I'm bored and tired. My mind wanders, you know?
You'll be fine. Just keep busy.
LauraLynn; I think it's good to get some perspective on the LHC and all the ridiculous claims surrounding it. I can only speak for myself here, but the thing that made me most anxious about the LHC was the fact that I didn't quite understand what they were trying to accomplish over there (i.e. I didn't understand how it worked). My solution was to read up on the separate aspects of physics involved in these experiments. That, together with some great advices from people at CERN1 made me reassured. And as Jim says, the continued existence of our moon is indeed an excellent example that proves no harm can come from the LHC-experiments. Why? Because the moon is bombarded in absurdum by cosmic rays reaching way, way higher energies than the LHC can ever do. If these CR doesn't pull rabbits out of the hat then we can be sure that the LHC isn't going to either (because the LHC replicates those CR in an controlled environment).
We have been working on a page about the LHC (still some work left though), perhaps you can find some answers to your questions there. Otherwise, let me know and I'll dig up some really good articles/videos on the safety of the LHC.

Hi LauraLynn
It makes me sad that there are people out there with ony one thing on their mind and thats to scare people about the LHC, I used to be scared too so scared i couldn't eat, sleep or anything i just used to sit and shake :( but i got though it.
At the minute the LHC is a big part of my life i follow every step of it every single day, I hope one day people can get over their fears too and enjoy what i have to say it the most amazing science experiment in the world.
They ain't out to kill us, they ain't hiding anything from us, and they ain't some secret organisation intent on doing us harm, things where said about RIHC and Tevatron when they first started nothing ever came of it.
Hope you find peace soon…..if not please feel free to get intouch with me :)

I think it is fascinating how you were able to overcome your fears and become part of a site that discusses the LHC every day. Perhaps you would care to detail your experience in overcoming your fears? Something not necessarily centering on the LHC per-se but describing your path to recovery?

Just as the mind is very delicate, it can also be very strong. Kind of contradictory, but that's psychology for you.
Wie Sie säen, so sollst du ernten.
Astrogeek i would gladly talk about how i over come my fear.
I have put my story in the story section hope this is ok with you?

hi , i have been hearing so much about all the "2012" and i dident think it was effecting me at first but i wake up alot in the night worry about my family annd whats going to happen and iam only 18 and i cant stop worrying its very scary and its reasurring to no iam not on my own , ive been spending alot of the time late at night on internet sights that give me reasurance just so i can get to sleep at night i dont wanna talk to anyone about it as they will look at me as if iam weired but i no iam not the only one and that there are other peaple out there if you could post something back to give me that extra bit of reasurrance that everything is going to be fine and that were all going to cellebrate chrismas in 2012 , i would appreciate it , thanks to who ever created this site it has been very usefull and thank you :) x
Hello Emma,
Thanks for posting. I assume the founders of this site will be along later to reply, too.
This site's a magnet for all sorts of claims about 2012, and we haven't found anything out of the usual. 2012 will be just another year.

Hi Emma,
I have been through many claimed doomsdays. It's just a money making hoax. None of their claims have a shred of scientific validity. Scientists expect 2012 to be a perfectly ordinary year. There is absolutely nothing to suggest that anything unusual is going to happen. There were no prophecies about 2012. These have all been invented by the hoaxers. We will be celebrating Christmas 2012 and many after that. If you are looking for specifics on any of the claims or the people promoting them, take a look at the relevant pages here. They are listed on the left side of the page. Don't worry, people have been predicting doomsdays for thousands of years and they have a 100% failure rate. This one is no different.

While i know this is a site looking at the Science or lack there of of the 2012 Predictions. Let me note that not only is there no scientific evidence or prophecies for 2012 but for those religious nuts out there that Emma may run in to there is also no biblical evidence of any prophecy regarding Dec 21st or any other date in 2012 or period for that matter. 2012 is utter crap and it's spread by the fear mongering media as well as numeros "Authors" and i use that term extraordinarilly loosely.
Mike,
I am aware of all that. Was there some reason you felt the need to point it out to me? Emma didn't bring up religion, so neither did I. For all we know, she might be a Buddhist. Not everyone in the world is concerned about what the Bible does or doesn't say. But, not to put too fine a point on it, the Bible specifically states that no man will know, that neither Jesus nor the angels in Heaven will know, only the Father.
Whoops sorry Alene wasn't saying you didn't know that but i know people are for some reason linking this to religious stuff for reasons i don't quite understand and i meant to direct that to Emma and i realize she might be Budhist.
No problem. I just don't bring up religion unless the poster asks about it. I did, however, say that there were no prophecies. Although I didn't specific mention the Bible, I was including it in the no prophecies statement.
Hi Emma;
I think that it is hard to ignore 2012 when we are being bombarded by people who think that something awful is going to happen on that date. They seem to be everywhere! The fact of the matter is that while a lot of people are talking about 2012, they are not providing any information… it is all hype, rumor and illusion.
I have been watching the claims made about 2012 for about 2 years now. I have investigated (to the extent of my ability and resources) every one that I can find. I have not found a single claim that is at all convincing.
I believe that 2012 will be an entirely ordinary year. Nothing all that unusual will happen. Down the left side of the page are some pages on specific topics. Please feel free to browse through them and ask questions about them as they arise.
2012 is a hoax. There is nothing to it.

Thank you very much for takeing the time to reply to my message i appreaciate it , that has relived my nerves slightly and has helped alot , a big part of me is saying that iam being stupid and that it wont happen i mean we have been here for billions of years and were doing ok , i just have a small part that over worries but thank you so much for those that replied it has helped , especially the last comment (astrogeek) thankyou you have allowed me to have a worry free night :) thank you so much this website has been so helpfull , i just hope that others who are alot worse of then me find it, x
Thank you Emma. Just by posting here you may have helped others in your situation.
I'd like to point out that some of the authors of this site are former 'believers' in 2012. I think it is kind of therapeutic for them to research and debunk the things that they were once afraid of.
