I ran into a couple of books from these authors. Does anyone know anything about them? Marie Page has a couple of books about 2012 saying that this is real. She has a quote on the back of her book from T. Mckenna saying that "this is not a dress rehearsal for the apocalypse…its the real deal"

Chrisina Jones M.D. also has books on 2012 and she has a degree.

Honestly is there anyone with a legit education that believes anything will happen? I just want to stop running into this crap and believing it just because I accidently came across it on the web.

Hi Tony,
I haven't heard of these people before and don't find any Marie Pages other than an artist and a real estate agent. Just having a degree, any degree, dosn't qualify a person to make judgements or predictions about completely unrelated fields. Christina Jones, as per her title, is a medical doctor, not an astronomer, a physicist, a geologist, or anyone who would know more than the ordinary layman about whether the 2012 nonsense is possible. If you are sick, go to a medical doctor. If you want to know about astronomy, physics, or geology, go to the people with degrees in those fields. We have some of them as members.
Terence McKenna was a whacked out drug user. I wouldn't put any stock in anything he said.

Thank you Alene. I really appreciate your response.

I may be getting the Marie name mixed up…but I do know her last name is pages. She wrote a book called 2013 — Something something after 2012 disasters or awakening. She has a couple of books on 2012.

I would think there would be more money in books debunking this stuff, rather than the opposite. My biggest worry is, how do they come up with enough stuff to write about it? Is there really that much to this prediction where you can write an entire book on it? Who are the people that THEY are interviewing and getting answers from? What convinced these people?

Hello Tony,

You may have meant Christine Page, who is indeed a doctor of some sort. Although she claims to be a gifted "intuitive" and "soul reader", those sources of esoteric knowledge don't keep her from making (and repeating) gross blunders in astronomy, as described in this video about Daniel Pinchbeck.

She's also active in a movement called The Great Rethinking, which we expose as one of the groups that profits from the 2012 claims.

Some of your other questions are addressed in this thread about Aveni's book on 2012. I think you'll find it interesting.

Thanks Jim,
I found Dr. Christine Page. She is also a medical doctor, so her field of expertise has nothing to do with any of the claimed 2012 events. When I looked her up, I found all sorts of garbage about spiritual mysteries, psychics, soul readings, astrology seminars, retreats, and Sacred Journeys. It appears she is just another new ager writing nonsense, certainly nothing to take seriously or to be afraid of.

Hi again Tony,
Sorry, I was away from the computer and didn't see your response. I don't know if there would be much money in writing a debunking book. People are fascinated by the idea of scary, unprecedented things happening. Many don't want to hear that it is all nonsense. I have considered writing one because there don't seem to be many out there and the flood of sensationalistic junk books is, for the most part, going unchallenged. However, if I tried it, it would need to be a group effort in order to cover all the different areas of the doomsday nonsense. The fact that we are NOT making any money on this sets us apart from the doomsayers, so any such effort shouldn't be associated with this site.
As to where the doomsayers get enough tripe to write an entire book about, the field is wide open when they can use any silly idea that enters their "minds." It doesn't have to have any credibility or merit. Many people will believe it because they see it in print.
The doomsday schlockumentaries that I've watched didn't have any scientists saying anything is going to happen. On the rare occasion when they actually have a clip of a scientist, it is generally taken out of context. They are usually saying things like, "If this or that happened, this could be the result." I haven't yet seen an actual scientist say that anything is expected to happen. They get authors with no scientific education, and people with PhD's in some field completely unrelated to any science. Just calling themselves Dr. makes people think they know what they're talking about. One of them even got an honorary PhD for attending a UFO conference. And, as I said, the field is unlimited when one is writing fiction disguised as reality.

Here is a partial answer, which I found in this this link, which is given on our "Detecting BS" page:

There is, alas, no scientific claim so preposterous that a scientist cannot be found to vouch for it. And many such claims end up in a court of law after they have cost some gullible person or corporation a lot of money.

So, we can see that although the question you asked is reasonable, it isn't likely to help you decide whether there's anything to the 2012 claims. Especially because those who profit from 2012 go to great lengths to make even knowingly false claims appear credible. No one has the time to be competent in all the subjects involved in those claims, so lots of educated people do indeed get fooled.

A better question is, "Why should I believe these claims?" Your comment that

is a step in the right direction.

A good way to proceed from there is to read the links provided on this page, especially "shifting the burden of proof", and "half-truths", in addition to the links given at the start of this post.

Also, could you give us the titles of the books you mentioned? Someone here may want to look into them, and prepare some sort of response.
