Besides JuJu of course. Arkansas had a rough one against Auburn. :-D. I feel your pain man!
I think Auburn would have had less chance of scoring if the Arkansas defense had just stayed off the field. Of course, two of those three 4th-quarter touchdowns were the offense's fault, and 14 of Auburn's points were gifts from the officials.
Me on game day —>
Fortunately, Ole Miss last week was a different story, and Vandy (barring a trap game) should be a cakewalk today.
I've always been a fan of the Carolina Panthers, but I'm not exactly picky with my teams. I usually only watch Football when the Superbowl comes around.
If you mean Football as in Soccer.. No. I'm not a fan.
Wie Sie säen, so sollst du ernten.
I'm a fan of certain NFL players, but not really teams, so little loyalty in that regard. Most seasons, I'm more interested in college football. I was pulling for Kurt Warner again last year, but he retired, so this year has been kinda slow so far.
Watching soccer is the closest I've ever come to being comatose. I'd rather watch curling, and I really mean that. The only time I have anything to do with soccer is in video games, and I enjoy that only because the monotonous pace can be distilled to a ten or fifteen-minute match, and games seldom end with final scores of 1-0 or 0-0, as they do in real life.
I know this is a month after your post Juju, but you're watching the wrong football1- last weekend was the Premier League's joint highest scoring with 41 goals I think it was, with every team scoring at least one.
Which naturally means my team scored only one. And one own goal. Go team.
Sure, seeing scores of 42-24 sounds better than 2-1, but it's not the score that counts. Much. I mean at least football finals aren't interrupted by The Who or Bruce Springsteen or whatever. Note to any UK viewers, the BBC still show the Super Bowl I believe, and being an advertisement free station, there's an awful lot of stopping and starting, and filling the air time, and waiting for play, and watching replays, and stopping and starting… C'mon Handegg, speed up a bit. 3 hours for a match, ridiculous.
But you know, go Falcons.
Iunno, I largely pick NFL teams by colour.
The term 'touchdown' doesn't seem to have been named properly either.
I also watch the version where feet actually make contact with the ball most of the time.
I want to like soccer. I really do, and I have tried. I have watched highlights over the Internet. I have watched whole matches. I have eaten lunch in ethnic venues where soccer matches air constantly, and employees spend as much time gathered around the television as they do preparing and serving food. I have read piles of articles on the game, and when I was younger I even tried to play. I even posted a YouTube video a few years ago, where I tried to engage soccer fans and players about the offside rule (which I think is poorly implemented). To date, I have never been flamed, trolled or insulted more in my life by any group, including creationists and Nibiru believers. Mind you, I don't believe for a second that fans of American football or any sport are any less rabid, but it was an unpleasant experience to the point that I disabled comments and ultimately removed the video, abandoning all hope that reasonable discussion could be had.
I just don't find the appeal. I'm not hostile toward soccer or anything, but I'm almost completely ambivalent. The exception, as noted above, is soccer video games, which I do enjoy. Fortunately, EA Sports' FIFA allows disabling of the offside rule.

I dunno. Teams play at different speeds depending on philosophies, and some are positively a bore to watch, it's true. Maybe Handegg could stand to speed up on average, like Major League Baseball did a few years ago, but most of the time in a soccer match is occupied by guys running/jogging/standing around. When a Handegg play is run, everybody on the field goes all-out for that 5-10 seconds, then lines up to do it again a half-minute later. A quick offense can run upwards of eighty plays in a game.

You mean soccer…. ;)
I suspect what we call football in the U.S. is named such in opposition to baseball and basketball, the other two major sports and neither of which calls for foot usage.
but most of the time in a soccer match is occupied by guys running/jogging/standing around.
On a few occasions, a clock has been put on the amount of time the ball is actually in play (when only the goalkeepers might be standing around). The figure usually comes out around 60 - 65 minutes out of a 90 minute match. Throw in a 15 minute half time interval and the spectator is seeing some action for about 60% of the time from the first whistle to the last. I wonder what the comparable figures for American football and baseball are? Much less, I'm sure
I've recorded baseball matches, which tend to be on in the middle of the night over here. At least that allows me to fast-forward during the seemingly interminable time it takes to change a pitcher. Get on with it!
Much less, I'm sure
Probably, but guys running around, while technically "action," is not my idea of thrilling. Not that a halfback diving through the heart of the defense for three yards at a time is always endorphin-inducing — but as I said, I'd much rather see the the action in 5, 10, 15-second bursts, wherein everyone on the field is going all-out for the duration.
At least that allows me to fast-forward during the seemingly interminable time it takes to change a pitcher.
Yeah, I understand that as a viewer. But also as a former pitcher, I can attest to the value of that seemingly interminable time.
I guess there's something to be said for stretching things out so that you don't have to be glued to your seat the whole time. In Britain, our main spectator sports seem to be one extreme or the other; cricket, where you are there most of the day, but can stroll round the ground, get some refreshment etc. without really missing much and soccer or rugby where if you leave your seat for 10 seconds, you might miss a crucial piece of the action.
I recall an interview with the late comedian Peter Cook, who was a Tottenham Hotspur (soccer) supporter. After a match which had ended in a 2-2 result, he was asked what he thought of the two Tottenham goals and replied that he'd missed them both because he happened to have been in the toilet each time. He complained that he was seemingly cursed for this to happen every time he answered a call of nature. A few weeks previously, Tottenham had beaten Bristol Rovers by a record score for any match that season of 9-0 and he claimed to have missed all 9 goals for the same reason!
I am a fan of the NFL but not the BCS system for colleges. So I generally block out those bowl teams.
Take the C out of BCS and you have precisely what it is.
Tonight I watched a Division I-AA playoff game and it was refreshing to see a championship decided how it should be decided, on the field.

"If psychics are capable of seeing into the future—why the f**k can't they give us the score to next year's Super Bowl" —Denis Leary
Keith, while I certainly agree that the BCS is broken, even a playoff system still has to have a way of determining which teams should be in the playoff.
The problem is that you have good teams outside of the BCS such as the Horned Frogs who are not allowed in. And you have lousy teams that play the bowls. It is a money thing. VA Tech is going to the Orange Bowl but can't sell their tickets in spite of rabid Hokies fans. Because the Orange Bowl folks kept the best tickets for themselves. And VT gets only the nose bleed seats.
Dude, my squad just lost to the worst team in the conference. I want to go cry in a corner.

My condolences. I noticed that score scroll by during the Oregon/USC game, and I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
It's almost time to go bowling.
It's the Sugar Bowl for the Arkansas Razorbacks, first BCS appearance ever. I can't wait, but I'm already seeing inbreeding jokes from Ohio State fans. I've also seen predictions for OSU to win by ridiculous margins, like 38-17 and 42-14. I'm not sure what brain injury has lead anyone to think there's a team in the country that can hold Arkansas to 14 or 17. I guess if the first and second-string QBs and the starting running back went down, that might be possible, but not otherwise.
My prediction: The Razorbacks have averaged 476 yards per game versus the five ranked opponents they played this season. The Ohio State Buckeyes played three ranked opponents, one who ultimately turned out unranked (my condolences, Jason), and averaged 359 yards per game. Ryan Mallett has tossed for 3,500 yards and 30 touchdowns, consistently performing well against tough competition. I don't think OSU has faced a receiving corp like that of Arkansas, nor have they faced an offense that can score from anywhere on the field. Knile Davis is an x-factor who has, in national terms, quietly put together a 1,183-yard season, averaging 6.6 yards per carry. The Razorback defense has had problems with running quarterbacks (Cam Newton and Chris Relf), though the defense that got plowed over by Newton has since gotten significantly better. All considered, Arkansas wins 45-34.
Should be a great match up. I like your chances against them. Had we not been picked off 4 times against them, we probably come out of the Shoe with a victory. I just don't see what's so special about OSU to be honest. They didn't strike me as being too impressive. I think your overall team speed will overwhelm them.
We've got Notre Dame in the Sun Bowl. A re-hash of Catholics vs. Convicts if you will. Now, it's more like Catholics vs. Choir Boys. Both teams are 7-5 and a mirror image of their former selves. Hopefully, our interim Coach can get our kids ready to play.
I want Mike Leach!!!
Yeah, Miami should have won that game in the same way Arkansas should have beaten Alabama. Just a couple of miscues down the stretch ruined it, as is so often the case. It's a shame your team ultimately had such an injury problem this season, because early on they looked really good.
I like the Hurricanes versus the Notre Damsels, but it's hard to predict how a team will react to an interim coach. Last year, four teams had coaching changes before the post-season game, and three of them won. In 2007-2008, seven teams went bowling with an interim coach (including a disastrous Cotton Bowl appearance by Arkansas against Missouri), and six of them lost. I hope Miami stays motivated and holds it together. They're better than 7-5, I think.
Overall, Ohio State's strength of schedule this year was horrible. Like I mentioned earlier, they played only three ranked teams. They beat Iowa (then ranked 21st, finished 7-5), lost to Wisconsin 31-18 (the only ultimately successful team OSU played), and then of course Miami in week two. I can't remember the exact numbers, but Ohio State's dean or athletic director criticized the schedule strength of teams like Boise State and TCU, claiming they don't deserve high rankings so long as they play solely "the little sisters of the poor." It was then pointed out that OSU's own strength of schedule was only slightly better than that of the schools he was throwing mud at.
Anyway, I typed all of that just to say that I think it's hard to know just how good OSU is. They're one successful opponent (Wisconsin) beat the crap out of them, but then Arkansas also folded hard against Auburn when the defense forgot to show up. Sometimes teams have bad weeks. I guess we'll find out what's what next month.
I'm looking forward to the BCS Championship as well. Auburn/Oregon should be an offensive free-for-all.
Oh dude, I'm pumped to see Oregons offense against an SEC school. They don't seem to play much defense in the Pac 10, so it definitely should be interesting.
I'll be rooting for those Razorbacks Juju!! :-D
ARRRRRGGGGGGGGGGH!
