Omg I heard that Isaac newton wrote a prophecy in which he predicted the end of the world was going to happen in 2060 should I be scared? Not knowing what happens after death I'm already reading and discovering that 90% of your regular users have a complete understatement of all the laws of physics including but not limited to the laws yet to be discovered. Equally as interesting is their knowledge of millions of years of past and future events, I must say, it is very impressive. So please let me know what the real truth is, was Isaac newton just a tard? Do you know exactly when the world will end? And most importantly, how can I keep all of my material possessions, including my children, safe from Gods awful terrorist acts?
how can I keep all of my material possessions, including my children, safe from Gods awful terrorist acts?
Believe in a different God?
My snide religious remarks aside, Newton was - despite his brilliance - a bit of a prick. He kept a lot of his ideas to himself for fear of other people using them for example, to the extent that we're still learning about the things he did put to paper. He was also fiercely secretive about his private life, his religious beliefs, where we are again still picking through what he actually thought of it all.
If memory serves, Newtons prediction was similar to the Young Earth Creationists approach of finding all the dates for the events and working out a time line. If people have misjudged the creation of this planet by 4.5 billion years using the method, it's pretty safe to say they'll misjudge the end using this method too, whether they're Newton or not.
Do you know exactly when the world will end?
We can work out the probability of various scenarios happening that would destroy the Earth, but you cannot set a date in stone for them.
We have a pretty good understanding of stellar evolution to know that the Sun will eventually die, and you do not want to be on Earth during the process of the Sun's demise… but, in theory, on paper, we might find a way to move the Earth out of it's orbit to keep it at a safe distance from the expanding Sun, and eek out what little time remains. So as drastic as an event as we make it out to be, would could still have a slim chance of prolonging the life of the Earth in that scenario.
There is no black and white statement that can be said other than "It will end." But there is an awful lot of grey that says "in all probability we're not going to see it end for billions of years."
Thanks man. But they also said that he planned for the prophecy to be discovered later in time because he feared people wouldn't believe him, any possibility? Also did newton know that the bible was wrong during his time?
Newton was also an alchemist and also rumoured to be into Ceremonial Magic— That is seeking the laws of the unseen and using ceremony or ritual to produce certain results. It got a bad name when Aleister Crowley became the public face of Ceremonial Magick (added "k" to differ from magic of magicians (rabbits out of hats)). Newton's religious beliefs were non-mainstream for his day. He was also an occultist seeking the philosopher's stone, for a part of his life.
Again, divination, which what Newton also practised as part of Ceremonial Magic, is not always accurate. Divination is based on interpreting or giving meaning to certain things and seeing if those things appear again and again. Most divinations are wildly inaccurate and are virtually difficult to pinpoint. New Age Channellers of the 1990s were predicting the end of the world as we know it in 2010. In the 2000s, it is 2012.
2060 :/ you gotta be kidding me :s I will be dead by then anyways :D natural causes i suspect :P
Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning.

I looked at this page which claims what the person below posted, however there is no link or reference to that statement, the only link related to the prophecy leads to a page that said he did make one and that it was the year 2060. Most of the things related to this prophecy try to link it to isaacs beliefs in alchemy and discredit it that way, this is a logical untruth, as I could say calculus is not true because Isaac believed in alchemy.
In order to find out how accurate Newton was a diviner - you need to look at all of his divinations, his methods of divination, and whether it is accurate or not. I have not heard of any others except for the 2060 which seems to appear out of nowhere. The other consideration for divining is why did he do it, and the context he did it in.
For example, the Ancient Romans used divination as part of their governing in the Republic Years. It was a way of discovering the will of their gods in their governing. The official diviner would set up a matrix of "yes", "no", "don't car"e. If there was no answer to the question, it was regarded as "don't care", and the Romans did what they wanted to.
In other words, what was Newton's matrix of divining, what did he consider relevant and what did he discard? Again the Romans set up a square border, that anything that happened outside of that border was not a part of their divination.
In short, in order to test the veracity of the 2060 divination, we need to know how he did it.
Re: 2060 "prophecy" http://www.isaac-newton.org/update.html
As far as what else Newton believed, the bit about Alchemy was not an attempt to poison the well, but rather an important historical context for Newton's beliefs. We took pains to explain his religious views and his scientific (and what we would now call 'pseudo-scientific') views in order to place the "2060 prediction" in context.
