Okay. Okay. So, Ophiuchus is the SUPER SECRET HIDDEN THIRTEENTH ZODIAC SIGN, okay? And it's a serpent. Okay, so the Maya pyramid has the shadow of a serpent scaling down it. Okay. And then, guess how this all ties together?! THE THIRTEENTH BAK'TUN!

So like, Ophiuchus will be visible in 2012! It's all coming together! WE'RE DOOMED!

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED.

No seriously, this one is starting to get more popular. Figured I'd throw this out there for people to gloss over.

13th Zodiac Constellation. It's largely not added to the twelve zodiac constellations, as many people combine it with… Scorpius or Sagittarius, I've forgotten which. This means in some cultures, Ophiuchus is not it's own constellation.

Also, Ophiuchus is known as Serpentarius, if that name is more familiar.

And if it scares you, that's understandable in a 'weird coincidence' manner. The thing is, I don't know for sure if Ophiuchus is going to be visible in 2012. Supposedly it is. I don't really do astronomy (or astrology for that matter), and so it's something that evades me.

I mean, I know we're not here to paint a pretty picture. If this is a legitimate thing to consider, it needs to be discussed. As much as we're here to debunk the 2012 Doomsday, potentially legitimate claims are to be taken seriously. Even with out evidence, this is how a skeptic works. Open point of view, mostly.

So yeah. Odd coincidences, don'tchathink?

Uh, if I recall… it's November 28th to December 12th or so. Give or take a few days. It's really short, and it's why it's not regarded as a main Zodiac.

JustAKid, you should have realized by now that there will not be an end of the world within your lifetime even if your life is 1000 years.

Also you cannot stay and life in fear all the time. That is a waste of a perfect good life for something that does not exist.

I will not help you. You will continue to stumble upon these sort of claims for the next two years. Will you continue to develop a cold sweat, paralyzed in irrational fear? Or will you start to look at these things like the joke they are?

There's doubt that the Maya Calendar even ends in 2012, if that helps you at all. 2060 is the other projection.

I brought this claim up to discuss and debunk it. However, there is nothing to debunk. If it is a fact that Serpentarius is visible in late 2012, okay then. Neat. Do you know what this means?

It's a possibility that the 'God' the Maya spoke of in Monument Six was just the rising of Serpentarius in the sky, and it falling over the horizon as our mudball travels through. Doesn't sound like doomsday now, does it?

Relax now. I just found a possible connection to what the Maya might have been talking about.

First you need to understand that constellations consist of stars that aren't really anywhere close to one another. They are simply patterns that the ancients saw when looking at the sky from Earth. Some of them are hundreds or thousands of light years away and some are tens of light years away. They are also those types of distances away from each other. Passing through the constellation doesn't mean that we are coming close to any of them. It just means that we are passing through an imaginary pattern that consists of stars that are nowhere near us and nowhere near one another.

Ophiuchus occupies an area of 948 square degrees and contains five stars with known planets. It can be seen at latitudes between +80° and -80° and is best visible at 9 p.m. during the month of July. The Sun passes through the constellation between November 30 and December 17.

In approximately 40,000 years Voyager 1 probe will pass within 1.6 light years of the star AC+79 3888, which is located in Ophiuchus.

You don't need to get all worked up about something that happens all the time, not just in 2012. Just google constellation Ophiuchus.

yes he is just 14 but it's true for now there is nothing that will settle him I know a lot of people that have been scared and they go looking for things that will scare them it's not that they can help it it's the case they need to do it because even though they are scared they get comfort out of reading they will read the same article over and over again looking for things they have missed or hidden things, if JustAKid would like me to help him calm down he can send me or someone else on the forum a PM and i am sure they will do their best to help him out :)

I agree with emmylou,
being scared is his comfort zone, and it also gives a lot of attention.
If everything would be perfect then he would go an look for some reason to be scared by searching the net.

He has to let go of the comfort zone of being scared and get used to a life where scare is more rare.
We can guide him through the scare to the having a happy life, but he has to want it too.

It is scary because it is a big unknown to live not being scared.

Yesterday I was wondering when someone asked me if I would be scared if the world would indeed end.
I had to think about it and I wound not live a scared life. I would live my life intensively, I would prepare for a big party the day before and be with friends the moment happens. And my last words would probably "Here we gooo. weeeeeeee, just like it would be a rollercoaster ride"

I really would not love to have a perfect life in a perfect safe environment. Life would be very boring if everything is perfectly safe. Some scare is needed once in a while to make you feel even more alive.

I asked my mum the same question a few weeks ago after watching Deep Impact.

I said can you tell me like for real how you would feel if the world would truely end it's a thing everybody has thought of at one stage in their life, I don't think we can know how it would feel if it would have to happen, the fear we feel is the way we think we would feel about the whole situation shame it takes over so many peoples lifes :(

It's a long and hard road to get out of the rut but it is doable, we don't know everything these days and i think thats a good thing, but like you said again if we did know everything it would be boring ;)

The constellation of the serpent is (surprisingly) Serpens.
Ophiuchus is the Serpent Bearer. It's visible for about 9 months every year.

Nah we still got 2 years of this crap left i'm sure someone will think of something. Not to mention of course that this 2012 thing could be big time wrong if the Mayan Calendar is really off by 50 years like a few people are claiming.

I've heard of this constellation. European Christians removed it from the Zodiac as to not have 13 constellations. 12 zodiac signs is apparently more supportive of the non-pagan lifestyle.
