I just found this site today. I heard about the 2012 Doomsday a few months ago. I saw some DVD documentary at Wal-Mart. Afterward, I came home and started researching it. I found so many site saying that it was the end…I found one where celebrities believed it. Now there are a few songs about it. I'm terrified. It has taken over my life. I am constantly on the internet looking up stuff. I've seen a few of the shows on the History Channel, also. I have my whole life ahead of me. I'm in college and want to do something with my future. I keep thinking that I'll never get to have a wedding or kids….I've read thru some of the info on this site…I watched the Penn & Teller show…which I enjoyed. However, I felt like they should've covered it with a little less comedy. I've even saw where people are linking the WikiLeaks stuff to the Bible fulfilling. Can you guys help me a little, please?? There really isn't one thing that scares me more than another…just the fear of only have 2 years left. I'm losing sleep and weight over this. I can't talk to my parents or friends because they all think it's BS and don't wanna hear about it.
Hello Amanda i'm Mike Poulin and i'm going to attempt to help you out. Most of the claims being made for Dec 21st 2012 that have been made have no real basis in Science and i'm going to give you a few of those claims.
Nibiru. Doesn't Exsist and if it was coming towards in the next 2 years it would have to be here RIGHT NOW not 6 months from now RIGHT NOW to do anything to us.
A Giant Solar Flare like in the movie Knowing and that is suggested by people like Patrick Geryl who has NO Scientific backround and basically made up this whole scenario of a Life Killing Flares which there is NO evidence for what so ever at all.
No Ancient Civilization has any prophecy that specifically acknowledges 2012 as the end of the world that is all modern interpertation from the morons on the Internets.
Finally i'm not sure what your religious backround is but if you are Christian the Bible and Christ himself in his Olivet Prophecy says that No Man Knows the time of his coming not the angels in heaven and not the son but only the father.
Also if your interested in a good reference for even further debunking of the 2012 stuff go to David Morrison's page Ask an Astrobiologist.
Hi Amanda .. I too have experienced the same fears that you are feeling. I will not try to pretend to be an expert about anything when it comes to this subject, but there are some professionals here that can give you that scientific proof you are looking for who I'm sure will all comment. Let me just say that you have found a great site, with a great community of people who are trying to help and will answer your questions and become your friends in this time. Like I said I can't tell you something will happen one way or another with 100% certainty and unfortunately no one can (well as far as the ultimate will it/ won't it question) which is problematic. What these people can tell you is the facts they know to dispel malicious rumors which have gotten out of control. They can also provide you with what they do have in their artillery; which is experience. Many of these good people, myself included have lived through an experience of mass hysteria where people thought the world would end. I know everyone always goes to this and it is different in many ways, but when it comes down to it the fear I had was the same. What I'm talking about is Y2K, I was an adolescent and vulnerable and was sure the world was going to end. My fears were initiated by seeing a trash magazine with the cover saying that DEC 1999 would indeed be the end. That aforementioned magazine was on the front of a rack at a Kroger grocery store as I was checking out with my mom and just like you things started spiraling for me. I was an emotional wreck and was absolutely positive I would not live to see the year 2000. When I tried to talk to my family it was dismissed as BS, and I didn't want to talk with friends because I knew they'd think I was crazy. Before I keep this thing anymore long winded than necessary, I think you and I both know where I'm going that, that never came to fruition and I'm able to sit here and type this to you. I know you've probably read similar stories, and you may not think this one is different and it still may not help calm your fears, but just please know that you are not alone. Everything is easier said than done, so I know there isn't much I can tell you but please just know that you ABSOLUTELY must avoid websites that are exploiting your fears because I guarantee you there is some type of profit involved in that site, to make money of your fears. There will be good days and bad, but please when you do have those bad days come here and other sites like it, not sites that spout fiction and prey on your fears. You mentioned the Bible, if you are a believer just read Matthew 24:36-44… that says no one knows the day or the hour of the end times, that includes the author of the fictitious book "Bible Code". I wish nothing but the best for you, and hope that you see truth from lies. Sorry this was so long but I really hope that it may help you to realize, that not only has there been 2012 or Y2K before it, but many "end of times" that people were just as fearful of because of lies and confusion just like your scenario! God Bless!
Hi Amanda,
I'm so sorry that you have been frightened by the nonsense being shoveled by the doomsayers, but I'm glad you found our site. None of the claims being made by the 2012 crackpots have a shred of scientific validity. There were no ancient prophecies made by anyone. These were all invented by people with books and assorted 2012 rubbish to sell. None of them have any scientific education and no scientist agrees with them.
The Hysteria Channel had a change in management a few years ago and they gave up their former credibility in favor of getting better ratings by showing sensationalistic nonsense.
The fact that some celebrities may believe the 2012 tripe is among the worst reasons for anyone to accept it. Being a celebrity doesn't endow anyone with any scientific knowledge or mean that anyone else should believe what they do. Celebrities are just people who became famous for some reason. There are songs about 2012 because people are cashing in on what sells, not because anything is actually going to happen. Even if it were, how would musicians or film stars know it? Do some more reading here on the pages that cover the things you are concerned about, and ask questions. We'll be here to help you.
Hi, Amanda.
I'll just second what Emperor Palpantine and Alene said. The Hysteria Channel and direct-to-DVD mockumentaries from Wal-Mart are not reliable sources of information. There isn't one inkling of evidence or logical thought behind 2012 doomsday claims, as I think this website shows in no uncertain terms.
The Bible is something people have harnessed for their doomsday fantasies for nearly 2,000 years. WikiLeaks has nothing to do with it or 2012. Without more information on these "people" and what exactly they're saying, I'm not sure what else to tell you.
I can't promise that you have more than two years or even two weeks left. You might develop a terminal medical condition, or you might have a fatal automobile accident. You might die tomorrow. I don't know, and neither do you. What I can promise you, however, is that, of all the real things in the world that you might and probably should be concerned about, the nonsense of a 2012 doomsday shouldn't even make your list.
I don't know anything about you, but if you're a healthy young person as you say, I'll speculate that you likely have several decades of life ahead of you. ;)
Hi Amanda;
The subject is BS, but your fears are real. You need to recognize that the fact that this has (as you say) "taken over your life" is the issue, and not the 2012 stuff. 2012 was just a trigger for you. We have seen many people come through here with similar stories to yours. Some of them have responded to you in this thread. That in itself should give you some hope.
The entire "2012 doomsday" is a modern invention, made up by some new-age guru types who weren't even predicting a "doomsday" but rather some kind of "enlightenment of consciousness" nonsense. But it's been taken over by people with a desire to make money any way they can, even if it means scaring people like you. The various authors of this site have examined every claim made about a "2012 doomsday", and I can tell you flat out, bet the farm, there is absolutely no question, they are all 100% false.
If you don't believe me on this point, then look through the links at the left side of the screen. We take the time to dismantle every 2012 doomsday claim we have come across. If you have heard one that we don't cover, just ask.
The doomsday people fall into a few broad categories:
1) The "Profits of Doom": These are the people who are spreading this rumor in order to make money. These would include people who are selling books and videos (such as Daniel Pinchbeck, John Major Jenkins, and Marshall Masters) or the corporations producing television shows (such as the History Channel).
2) The True Believers: These are the people who really believe this stuff. They are a bit harder to identify, since it involves getting inside their heads, but I happen to think that Patrick Geryl is a 'true believer', although he is also profiting from it.
3) The '2012-Herd': These are the people who believe because of what people in the first two groups have told them. This comprises the vast majority of '2012 believers'. They haven't done the research, they haven't asked the questions, they haven't thought about it much, and they haven't cross checked with experts in relevant fields (like astronomers, or geologists, or anthropologists, etc). Another way of thinking about this group is "the victims".
If you're in group 3 (which is most likely) then the chances of you shaking this off and realizing that it is all nonsense are pretty good. The question is how emotionally invested in this you are. Some people are easy. You show them the facts and they shake off the 2012 nonsense, and proceed with the rest of their lives (perhaps with a bit of embarrassment). Some others take some convincing. Another group of people have a deep emotional investment in it, and have unknowingly moved into group 2.
Please, look through the links at the left. They contain a point-by-point, or topic-by-topic rebuttal to every claim about a 2012 doomsday that we can find. If you are still concerned after reading the articles, then ask here, but be aware that the issue may not be 2012, but rather your own anxiety and fears which were triggered by the 2012 doomsday rumors.

And honestly the 2012 New Age of Enlightment actually doesn't sound all that horrible But it's when you get the other people the insane people who believe that something really bad will happen just because the Mayan Calendar is going to end their era and start a new one forgive me if i offend anyone but that's utterly retarded.
Hi Amanda,
The only doomsday prophecy we know for sure will come true is about 5 billion (with a B) years from now when the Sun uses up its hydrogen fuel, expands into a red giant, and scorches the Earth. And this is the only one that has real science behind it. In 1 billion years or so, the Sun will have increased its output to the point where Earth will no longer be suitable for human life.
That's longer than the dinosaurs existed (and they were the dominant life form on Earth for about 160 million years).
Crises come and go, but we're still here and will be for some time to come.

Hello Amanda. Sorry to see that this is affecting you pretty badly.
Well, in truth it all really is BS.
I saw some DVD documentary at Wal-Mart. Afterward, I came home and started researching it.
That direct-to-DVD stuff is everywhere. It's usually some discarded documentary no one watched on TV or it's some "survival guide" no one could afford to put on TV.
I'm terrified. It has taken over my life. I am constantly on the internet looking up stuff.
That's not the best course of action. If you keep looking into it, the fear will keep on gripping you. The best way is to find a site like this and/or talk with someone close about it. Someone you can trust.
I've seen a few of the shows on the History Channel, also.
History Channel hypes everything and makes things overdramatic. In truth, it's usually some narrator with a creepy voice and strange music with dark pictures. That's the way I usually see it. But yes, History Channel is known to say alot of things but it turns out to be hyped.
I've even saw where people are linking the WikiLeaks stuff to the Bible fulfilling.
With everything new that is deemed bad there is always some theory sprawling out. WikiLeaks has nothing to do with the Bible.
The thing is, there's been hundreds of end of the world predictions. They have all been wrong. 2012 will be any other year. The only difference will be you will see alot of nutjobs about preaching about it. The best thing to do is to ignore it. Before I saw this site I was always concerned about Earthquakes and other things but now it doesn't bother me if one happens. At least, something on a small scale. Still, this is something you will have to conquer but we are here to help you out with it. Don't dwell into the fear though by constantly searching it up, that does no good.
Everything is proceeding as I have forseen. Wait… when did that happen?
There's nothing I really need to say that hasn't been said already. However, I do have something I should say.
Don't throw it all away because of this. Doomsday prophecies have been around for thousands of years, and yet life continues on. You have nothing to gain if you throw it all away and wait for the end. Nothing. But you have everything to lose if you do.
Reality is this: You will die one day. You will die, and life will go on. You will be mourned, but life will go on. This could be right this second, tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, ten years from now, or at the ripe age of 100. You will die.
You, however, will not die on May 11th 2011 or whatever that date is that people are heralding as the Coming of Jesus. This sort of thing happens once every few years. Let's face it, Jesus isn't coming back because when you die, that's it. Game Over. And I could get into a whole topic on Biblical nonsense and God nonsense, but this isn't the point.
You will not die on December 21st, 2012. Unless something happens to you that is tragic, no global events will end your life. The only thing that could possibly happen is the unfortunate to you.
And that is it. Live, wonder, be. Enjoy life, and ignore this foolish hoax.
Actually Moo i believe it's May 21st 2011 that people are Harolding see what i did there as the return of Christ. But of course those people also say that the Bibile is wrong. But in any event that's off topic but i would love to see you start a biblical topic Moo if it were only allowed on this forum. Anyway though as for 2012 it's another acients predicted doom and gloom for us thing which has been predicted thousands of time and yet never comes to pass.
Honestly, if I were to start a topic about the Bible and the whole religious pantheon Christians and off-sects of Christianity pledge themselves to, it would just go something like this…
"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, allow me a moment to question your logic. What makes the Bible, a script, nae, a book written ages ago, any different from, for example, the Lord of the Rings? Both are set in the far past, neither can be proven they happened or did not happen. The only key difference here is that the following of the Lord of the Rings knows it is simply a fantastic tale, why Christians and the like seem to have forgotten that stories are not automatically fiction.
There lies no evidence supporting the more fantastic tales of the bible. You go only by a script that has been rewritten and altered over generations upon generations. You cherish it as the absolute truth, never questioning why it is okay to do so. If I were to suddenly declare Frodo Baggins as my savior for sacrificing everything to rid our world of Sauron, you would call me a fool. I, in turn, would call you a fool for calling Jesus our lord and savior for sacrificing himself to help cleanse us of our 'sins'. The same sins that God itself allows us to commit. If it was not within God's will, and was in Lucifer's own, wouldn't an all-powerful, all-mighty being as God be able to suppress the will of Lucifer with his own? Or does this simply prove that God is not the Almighty?
If we were created in God's image, then that makes not only God, but Jesus and all others of the Holy Bible flawed creatures, with infinite capacity. For such a being, split between a being of compassion and a being of anger, God has not once made itself known to those of the present era. All we have is a script, altered time and time again, that we have no proof all it says is absolute.
Continue to believe what you wish to believe, as fellowship can be a precious thing. Let not the differences between your religions cast those into the lot of Saved or Damned, for in the end you are not the one to Judge others. That is the responsibility of a being beyond your comprehension. Or is it?
As for me? I will continue to scoff at those who dare judge others for their beliefs, for even I myself do not judge those who belief in a Holy being. I question the logic, but nothing further. You have no right to damn those who do not follow YOUR beliefs, as that only shows who the true devils are in this world. For a book wanting to spread fellowship, compassion, and love, it's followers tend to forget this message time and time again.
In the end, all I say is that you should not thank God as much as you should thank your family, for they are the ones who supported you, not God. You may think God is what bestowed you to them, and as such are thankful for your good life, but God is not the one whom put food in your mouth, clothes on your back, and such things. As much as you may thank him at every meal, this only robs from the true saviors; the working class.
And unlike God, I can go out and see them doing this day after day."
Something like that!
ok, let's not.
This site is not about christianity, judaism, buddhism, paganism, islam, hinduism, or whatever. It is about 2012.
This is a deliberate and conscious decision on my part. There are plenty of places around the web for this to be discussed/debated, this site does not have to be one of them.
I'd prefer not to lock this thread, so I'd like this to be dropped.

I wasn't trying to make this a religious type thing i was actually trying to make a joke at Harold Camping and all that noise. Although i did mention that MOO should make a thred in the Off Topic forum which i assumed was something not about 2012 but i can understand if you don't want to turn this in to a religious bashing site and keep it on point with the issue of 2012.
I do agree with Astrogeek, lets keep this site free of politics and religion.
First because some people that fall victim of the 2012 hoax might be religious believers and you would not be able to reach them.
With WikiLeaks releasing so much, who's to say they won't release something found by NASA that could be harmful?
For that to happen:
A: NASA would have to have something to hide. Assuming it's not budget related, they have nothing to hide.
B: Someone in NASA would have to leak it. No one could leak anything because there is nothing to leak.
Amanda,
What do you think they would hide? I understand you're worried, but I really don't think WikiLeaks is anything to worry about.
WikiLeaks is only interested in discrediting the U.S. gov't's policies. That means the Pentagon and State Department. They have tracked it to one person so far, who was disgruntled at not being promoted. Not every gov't agency shares their information with other agencies. State and Defense (Pentagon) do.
At lot of people in the State Dept. believe that the person who is leaking their info is a thrill seeker. Releasing NASA docs does not get the same high as releasing docs stating that the King of Saudi Arabia is a poo-poo head.
What would be harmful in the NASA docs? Aliens? Comets coming here? So far, I have seen NASA release a lot of information to stop dangerous space bodies from impacting the Earth. As for Aliens, that has been around since the 1940s, and if true is one of the worst kept secrets around. So there is nothing to worry about.
With WikiLeaks releasing so much, who's to say they won't release something found by NASA that could be harmful?
There is no relation with 2012 whatsoever.
The only harmful thing that could be exposed about NASA is some corruption scandal. Normal stuff that happens everywhere and everyone already knows.
So, the Wiki Leaks guy has been given bail. If he is released, can't he start leaking stuff again, or do you think they will have a stipulation where he can't release anything? I know I was here last month terrified of what eh could release, and I still have that fear. Every time I hear something about Wiki Leaks, I almost hold my breath because I am so terrified of what they could be releasing. My 2012 fears had gotten a little better, but for the past few days, they have been super bad. Maybe it's because it's almost 2011 and I'm worried we only have a year left. NASA is funded by the government, so why couldn't they also have secret documents??
Hi Amanda;
As far as government agencies go, NASA has very few 'secrets', and those that they do have are things like which orbit they placed the latest Air Force recon satellite in.
Just remember this: NASA accounts for less than 1 percent of the annual budget. They're not going to take over the world on that.
"Do you ever think about things you do think about?" - Henry Drummond to Matthew Harrison Brady in Inherit the Wind
I know to you guys it seems irrational and silly, but to me, my fears are real. Also, one more question, I read somewhere something about it ending at 11:12 GMT. How can there be one specific time, when today is already tomorrow in some places??
11:12 is the time of the solstice on 21st December 2012, a regular twice-yearly event, the precise timing of which goes unnoticed by virtually everybody.
I'm interested to see that the crackpots have caught up with our correction from 11:11 to 11:12. I thought they would stick with 11:11 because it's something of a bigger deal numerology-wise. 11:11 was the previously estimated time for the solstice, but it was pointed out to the US Naval Observatory that their estimate was based on outdated information, so they corrected it. Read about it here.
As I said, the woo-woos picked up on the time 11:11 because of numerology. I thought the change to 11:12 would have shut them up. Numerology is just as much nonsense as all the rest of it and you should pay no attention to it. 11:11 is the time when nothing in particular will happen. In case you miss it, there will be a repeat at 11:12.
Amanda, what secrets could NASA possibly have except for the frequencies, and passwords for their satellites and internal IT stuff?
Just regular everyday company stuff.
I don't know. :) I guess I'm just looking for any and every thing to freak out about. This 2012 stuff has really troubled me. Normally, I am so carefree and full of life. But now, I don't really care any more.
Amanda, stop searching for reasons why 2012 might be true, search for reasons why 2012 can never be true.
Can you give a list of why it can never be true and it mus be a hoax?
You already gave one reasons; It can never be a single event since the Earth contains 24 times zones.
What other reasons are there that 2012 can never be true?
Because the government has spent billions, if not trillions, of dollars on projects before, during, and after 2012…nasa included.
Because Nasa is not the only space agency and the US government is not the only government
Because there are millions of astronomers NOT being funded by a government agency, none of which believes that 2012 is the end of the world (at least not real ones)
Because astrology and prophecy are bunk, and always has been/always will be
Because I said so
Hey Amanda,
That was a really good idea that obaeyens had. Try to make your own list of reasons why the 2012 tripe isn't true.
I've found that I learn more when teaching something than I did in class. You should try it. Make your list for teaching others why it can't be true.
Hi Amanda;
Take a step back from how you are feeling, and look at it from "the outside".
What's happening to you is that your fears have become an obsession, and you are seeking out ways to justify your fears, rather than confront them and defeat them. This is just like a teenage boy talking himself out of asking the cute girl for a date, because he's afraid she'll say no, so he never asks.
This isn't right, this isn't rational. I realize that this has taken on a life of its own in your mind, but you have to break out of the spiral.
