I made the mistake of watching "The Nostradamus Effect:2012" a couple nights ago. Well, to begin with, it didn't bother me. Now, tonight as I was listening to my 2 year old daughter laugh at cartoons, it hit me like a building. What if she on'y gets to see her 3rd birthday? I have never known love like this. It terrifies me to think I only have 2 years left with her. So many scientific claims that I don't understand. Please help me. I love my daughter so much and I want her to have a long full life.

First thing you should know is that there are no prophicies from Nostradomis, The Mayans, The Bible, or anywhere else that point to 2012 or 12/21/12 as the End of the World. This is all modern twisted interpertation of the Mayan Calendar and Nostradomis is a false prophet he did not predict anything past present or future and it's all for the money.
I just got finished watching one part of The Bible Code series on the HC. I truly do believe that the Bible holds no prophecies concerning the end of the world (2012, sooner or later) but this show is very adamant that these 'codes' pointed to the prediction of 11 September 2001 and now, this is supposed to signify that the 'end times' may have begun. These codes also say that, specifically, 2012 will be the end of mankind (as interpreted, it will be due a comet or asteroid). But then, the codes begin to contradict themselves by saying that we may be able to destroy it, kinda like in the movie Armageddon.
I do not get why they would air such a show that says the codes are definitely saying one thing, to then turn it around and say, oh wait, maybe that's not entirely accurate. Any takers on wtf this might be about?

Is this the same Bible Code that takes letters every umpteen places apart from each other in order to form vague keywords that can be pieced together in any which way? Because if it is, the Bible predicted this very website would happen, as "Twenty Twelve Hoax" appears twice in Bible Code. "Astro Geek" appears 105 times, but "Astrogeek" doesn't occur once, which should give you an idea of how Bible Code is based on mathematics, rather than hidden prophecies.
Essentially, the argument about it all was:
"Ooh look, hidden codes in the Bible."
"That's just because there is an awful lot of characters and mathematical combinations to find codes."
"Oh yeah? Hows about you try it with another book, bet you won't find as many."
"Moby Dick 'predicted' the assassination of JFK. And Martin Luther King. And Abe Lincoln…"
"Oh."
With regards to saying one thing and turning around to say another, surely even the History Channel tries to keep some 'balance' in their shows. They can't necessarily claim any of this as complete fact, lest somebody call them out on it.
Edit: The first half of this video, John Safran vs God takes a humorous look at Bible Code.
Yep, that's the one!! My husband, knowing my past obsession and fears related to 2012, told me not to even bother watching it for fear that it would re-hash my particular worries. But, I honestly just laughed at it. First of all, in this particular series, every man that was speaking was Jewish..evidence by either wearing a yarmulke or simply having the 'classic' Jewish appearance. And I'd love to know how they could find credibility in these so-called codes when they decipher one thing then turn around and decipher the opposite.
So, we are supposed to have faith that these codes promise that the world's going to end in 2012 by a comet that will kill mankind…so, prepare for the end!!! But wait, no it won't, because they later say that we will find a way to destroy the comet before impact!! PUH-LEASE!!! I'm sorry, but as gullible as I can be at times (and as once petrified as I used to be), even this sh*t holds no truth in my eyes! Just don't get it!

And I'd love to know how they could find credibility in these so-called codes when they decipher one thing then turn around and decipher the opposite.
Bible Code finds "twenty twelve true" 31 times, and "twenty twelve false" 0 times, which must surely be evidence for anything I care to mention about 2012 to be true… Until someone comes along and finds "twenty twelve lie" 33 times.
And, perhaps alarmingly for the Bible "God lies" 5586 times. Though it does find "bible code lie" 9 times.
Pick any piece of text, pick any phrase, look hard enough and you'll find meaning, even if you have to impose that meaning when you get the results. It's ridiculous, but has it's brief moments of entertainment.
More Edits: Aha! I always forget where I leave this video on the subject. Darth Vader Real. The Bible Code says so.
Wow, awesome video!!! Just goes to show!!!
Maybe you could shed some light…I read some of the comments, what's the commotion (or dispute) with the Bible versions, Hebrew vs. non-Hebrew? Some are saying that the codes are invalid because of the original text..?
I'm probably delving in too much, but it has now gained my interest and when I Google it, the responses are a bit…overwhelming.

Monica, Nostradamus didn't predict anything about 2012. Even if he did (which he didn't), there is absolutely no reason to believe him. People looking to prop up a variety of conspiracy theories and whatnot frequently invoke Nostradamus, as his "prophecies" are so vague that just about anything can be shoehorned into them after the fact. See this page.
There are no scientific claims that propose a 2012 doomsday or enlightenment. All such claims are pseudoscience or downright mysticism, and this website refutes most of them. If something is bothering you that isn't addressed here, feel free to ask.
I had troubles like that — Watch a compelling programme and then have it brood under my skin. Having children myself, I can understand you desire to keep yourself and daughter safe and happy. I do know that trying to think it away doesn't work.
What does work is filling your mind with hopeful things of the future - such as they just scheduled the World Cup beyond 2012, the Winter Olympics are set beyond 2012 as well. Now all these people have access to the same programme as you and others, but they just shrugged it off.
As others have written, these programmes are designed to shock, scare, and convince you. They do their job very well. However, as everyone pointed out - the premise is faulty to begin with.
I try to think positively. Like the fact that they have scheduled the World Cup for 2018 makes me kinda happy. But the skeptical/crazy side of me thinks they do that just to continue with ordinary everyday life so that the public won't suspect anything….I mean, NASA thinks the sun will become a giant red or whatever in about 5 billion years….people will probably be gone by then, so why couldn't 2012 be the year that happens?? I'm just really scared guys. Sorry to sound so negative and distrustful. I came here because you seem like such nice people and really want to help people like me.
Hi Monica,
As the others have said, Nostradamus never mentioned 2012. His writings were very vague and can be interpreted to refer to almost any event, AFTER the event. There were no prophecies about 2012 by anyone. What we have is the Hysteria Channel going for higher ratings by broadcasting sensationalized nonsense and a bunch of authors with no scientific education, making up impossible scenarios to sell their books. None of their claims have any scientific validity and no scientist supports them. You can read about each of the claims and why they aren't possible, from the menu at the left. Don't worry about the 2012 claims. It is a business for crackpots and con artists to sell their 2012 rubbish.
Hi Monica;
Sorry I'm late to this particular party. You should know that I've seen the show that you're referring to, and it is complete hogwash.
The first thing I noticed about that show is that it is virtually identical to about 5 or 6 other shows the History Channel is airing along with it. They all have the same narrator, they interview the same authors, and they all use the very same deceptive 'cut-away' technique.
What is the 'cut-away' technique? It's when the producers use a scientist… a legitimate scientist, to introduce a topic, and then 'cut-away' (sometimes in mid-sentence) to the narrator, or to an "independent researcher" who then spends a good five minutes spouting absolute nonsense.
Why do they do this? It is to lend an aura of scientific legitimacy to the nonsense. You would be surprised at how effective it is. After the show is over, can you tell who said what? If you're like me, then probably not, but you might remember that they had someone with "NASA Scientist" under their name, and that an "alignment with the galaxy" was discussed.
I DVRed the History Channel shows in question, and watched them very closely, and they all use the same techniques. It's shameful.
So, just remember, there are no "scientific claims" being made in these shows. It is all nonsense.

Hello Monica,
Nostramudas doesn't have anything to do with 2012. It's just something the believers put in to enhance the hype. As said above, his predictions are very vague.
It's best to ignore such things on History Channel. It's just some way to get higher ratings and more money. But be sure for the safety and well being of your daughter to keep her away from that stuff also. As said on the stories here this 2012 thing has affected children greatly and it would be sad to see someone so young affected like that.
Everything is proceeding as I have forseen. Wait… when did that happen?
I think HC should do some research on how damaging false 2012 claims and HC about 2012 can be on people.
I totally agree, but they would absolutely not care..their ratings reflect otherwise, and that's what is really important to them!!

The IHC video is a good example.

I just wish I could forget it and move on. I'm gonna miss so much being afraid. I want to trust all of you so bad…you really are trying to help people. I guess the crazy side of me is saying to not trust anyone. That something bad is really going to happen and that beautiful little girl sleeping in her bed right now isn't going to get to experience her life…and i feel like I can't save her….I'm sitting here in tears as I write this. She's just so smart and she's everything….Why can't something be done to make the History Channel stop??? I've noticed the HInt and HISTHD show a lot of alien shows also. I'm sick of this….
people will probably be gone by then, so why couldn't 2012 be the year that happens??
What does humans being gone in five billion years have to do with the Sun going red giant on us 2012? Whatever the case, that is simply impossible. Stars don't just pop from one form to another overnight. In the case of our Sun, these changes will occur over billions of years. They're happening now, as the Sun burns several hundred million tons of hydrogen per second. It takes roughly 70,000 years for the Sun to consume an amount of hydrogen equivalent to the mass of Earth. Presently, the Sun's mass is equal to about 333,000 Earths.
Even just considering the percentage of this hydrogen necessary to sustain our Sun through its main sequence (the stage in its evolution where it has been for about 4.5 billion years), it is impossible for what you suggest to happen. There is too much fuel in the Sun.
Why can't something be done to make the History Channel stop??? I've noticed the HInt and HISTHD show a lot of alien shows also. I'm sick of this….
Honestly, my advice to you is to simply stop watching the Hysteria Channel. Any actual history that interests you can be learned about elsewhere. The HC isn't worthy of your time or attention.
I didn't mean the sun was gonna become a red giant by 2012…I just meant that people will probably be long gone by the time it does happen, so why couldn't that extinction happen in 2012. I'm sorry to be so bothersome. It's just really scarey to me.
He's right. History Channel is not a very good source for such a thing. There will be a World Cup in 2018 and they don't have a reason to pretend there will. If they didn't Japan wouldn't be working hard on making holograms for people to watch it on. The best thing to do is ignore it and use common sense when seeing something about 2012. And like I said earlier, keep your daughter away from it and don't be afraid of it around her, even though there's no reason to be afraid at all. She might think you're sad and then she will too, it's just best to ignore History Channel and spend time with your daughter.
Everything is proceeding as I have forseen. Wait… when did that happen?
Hi Monica,
Because there is nothing unusual about 2012, it has the same chance of the world ending as any other year. That would be about 1 in 2,000,000,000. The reason that life on Earth will be gone before the Sun enters its first red giant phase is that it will be gradually heating up as the Sun expands and brightens on its way to becoming a red giant. Somewhere between 1 and 3 billion years from now it will become too hot for life to exist here. However, we won't have to worry about that. Neither will your daughter, her children, grandchildren, or her…….gggggggggggggggggggggggrandchildren. There is absolutely zero evidence or indication that 2012 will be anything other than an ordinary year. Don't assign any special significance to it just because a bunch of screwballs dreamed up scientifically impossible scenarios and tacked the 2012 date on after their last doomsday failed to occur on schedule. They still had books and doomsday junk to sell.
I just meant that people will probably be long gone by the time it does happen, so why couldn't that extinction happen in 2012
Barring some cataclysmic occurrence (like the K-T event that ended the dinosaurs), extinction is something that happens over many, many generations as one species fails to adapt to new circumstances. They have a long way to go, but scientists have gotten pretty good at monitoring the earth and sky. Earthquakes and other tectonic activity are within normal boundaries, and any asteroid large enough to cause us harm in the next few years would have been spotted a long time ago. There is absolutely no evidence that anything bad will happen in 2012, aside from the usual ups and down, calamities, wars and natural disasters that we can expect during any year.
so why couldn't that extinction happen in 2012
Because there is statically equal chance that extinction happens right now or 10.000 years from now. 2012 has no monopoly on extinction.
Second none of the 2012 claims have any credibility because of their poor science. They couldn't even predict a real extinction if it stared them into their face.
You could ask yourself - what would you be doing if you are not afraid? Then go do that. Enjoy every moment of your life and your daughter. Fill your life with things you like to do. Understand that your love for your daughter is precious. Be here now - as they say.
