Magnetospheric fluxes - what's the deal?

Well, I'll get straight to the point, and just ask you (mostly for arguments sake) why do you think that the PX-people constantly claim that the magnetosphere is acting all weird? I mean, I know now that fluxes in magnetospheric pressure is nothing out of the ordinary, but why do they seem so stuck on this certain aspect of the "arival" of the fantastic planet (that still can't be seen)? I mean, dry-spell on the innovative thinking front? They seemed to be so resourcefull for a while, pulling rabbit after rabbit out of their hat, but now they seem to be returning back to their roots=P

Sorry if this was kind of a weird post, I have studied far to long time now and I just felt that I needed some clarity regarding this part of their claims.

And finally, have you seen that Lieder now claims that the earth doesn't orbit around the sun anymore?

Gosh, I almost feel a little nostalgic when I see all the nonsense on the net. To be honest, I thought that the Nibiru crap had started to wear out, but boy was I wrong. Persistent little bugger, still going strong=D

Have you seen this site/forum whatever it is by the way: http://www.topix.com/forum/ca/edmonton-ab/T72HFC4CT9N7J8RA0/p508 ? Some weird discussions going on there (Yes, I should stay away from those sites in my current condition, but I'm having a little walk down on memory lane right now=)

I look forward to this being answered, personally. The magnetosphere IS being used by woo's to 'confirm Nibiru' more.

As do I. Perhaps a better way to put it would be; Is the magnetosphere acting weird in any kind of way, or is it like I suspect, that the person posting in that forum takes for granted that no one will double-check his statements and thus makes wild unsupported claims? Any thoughts ?

I think that the PXers are playing on the contrast between the human impression that the earth is stable and the scientific data that shows that certain aspects of the earth change over time. I think they are also playing on the fact that magnetic interactions create phenomena that appear like "magic" to some people. These plays depend on the sad fact that most people think of scientific topics in 'sound bites' (e.g., "the earth's magnetic field is declining" and "the earth's magnetic field protects us from the sun" when combined give the incorrect impression that we are soon going to be roasted by the sun).

I also think that they've learned which arguments gain traction with the general public, and they tend to use those arguments, even though they are completely bogus.

The Insane Clown Posse might have said it best (flipping magnets, how do they work?).

People who latch onto the claims have heard of the magnetosphere in passing, or they've bought the wrist magnet nonsense to balance their energy or whatever it is. There is that unexplainable fuzziness about magnetism that creates a lot of room to work with.

That, and it's easily to demonstrate a drinks can being pulled by a magnet, and then just label the can the Earth and the magnet Nibiru. Scientifically it only tells you one thing - this can is attracted to that magnet. But the claims don't care about science, they care about the visuals, they care about what they can sell to their audience (not literally for once).

Too much detail, too easy to pick it apart. Fuzzy and vague with 'mystical' magnets, onto a winner it seems.
