Hey guys. I am a young mother of 3. I recently heard about this 2012 stuff from a friend who saw it on the History Channel. From the very second she started explaining what they said, I felt so guilty. I have the 3 most beautiful kids in the world…and now, when I look at their smiling little face, I feel so much guilt. In 2 years, they are going to have to suffer so much if all this happens. I made the mistake of watching a few scenes from the movie "2012"….made it 100% worse. Now, I've found myself paying more attention to earthquake headlines and weather headlines…I saw where you discussed this story a little bit, http://www.wral.com/weather/story/8800537/ (saw that on yahoo.com, but couldn't find it, so I re pasted this one since it's the same story), it worried me a lot too. It seems like we're having terrible summers and even worse winters. I'm so scared. I've read thru most of the papers on this site, and I can't find comfort. I just keep feeling sorry for my poor babies….They'll never get to go to their proms, or get married, or have babies…..I'm crying as I write this to you. I've talked to a therapists and she told me "The Bible says the world won't end when it's predicted..but I think there are some signs all around us that was discussed in Revelations." That did NOT help at all. I'm coming to you as a worried mother, who wants to protect her kids at all costs. Please, help me. Please don't get upset with the sites I've posted, I'm just trying to understand….

2012 has never really bothered me but I have to reply on the basis that you mentioned the weather, this too has been freaking me out so much this year, i am not sure why i am so freaked out, heatwave across the glode in the summer, and now the snow I don't care what anybody says it's not normal yes there is snow all times of the year and weird stuff happens all the time, but it's happening at the same time everywhere :( this is the only trigger i have :( and I am trying so hard to stay focused and happy but sometimes it's so hard.

Please do not think to much into the whole 2012 thing I know it's hard I really do, please if you want someone to talk to or just a chat feel free to get intouch :)

So, what has you scared about the weather if you aren't thinking it has something to do with 2012?? I read somewhere, can't remember the site, something about a little ice age or something….

I am not sure, maybe that something big is happening? maybe I do have an underlying fear of 2012? all I know is that everything weather related has got me shaken up and all freakout :( hmmm that makes me sounds stupid ugh.

Amber, technically we're still in an ice age.

Weather varies wildly sometimes. Climate change might have something to do with some things, like more storms over time due to warmer oceans, but really nothing we've seen recently has been all that unusual. Records have been broken before. I haven't checked, but weather records are probably broken every year. This year just happened to feature a nasty summer. We can't look at the weather over one or two years and declare the world doomed. That would be rather silly.

Bible prophecy websites aren't a very good source of information. The first one is a clear example of a zealot with an agenda, completing ignoring the context in which something is written in order to make some crazy point. The second link is more of the same, written by an apparent doomsayer who can't be bothered to consider the actual science of the matter.

The third link just confirms what everybody should already know: weather is weird. It's always been weird. It does unexpected things. Even now, with everything we know, we don't know everything about our planet or its climate.

The hysteria that has taken over society in the last few years is utterly uncalled for. David Morrison of NASA coined the term "cosmophobia" to describe people who are afraid of every new/different/unexpected thing we learn about space. Sadly, it seems to go beyond that. So many people seem to have developed what I'd almost describe as panophobia, becoming terrified of nearly everything that happens around them if it doesn't fall within the narrow scope of parameters they've decided to consider "normal."

In my layman's opinion, this is not a healthy way to live. I don't know what's causing it. I'm sure 2012 hysteria has played a role, but the 2012 liars have been destroyed by science and reason. This website alone has demolished every single 2012 claim that I know of. I realize that doesn't stop doom and gloom proponents from puking their garbage all over the Web and bookstores, but the knowledge needed to refute such nonsense is available to those willing to look for it.

This is a horrible time for UndeadxNurse to be away, because I really have no capacity to understand what is leading some people to be so afraid of everything. I mean no offense to anyone who is scared, but I do mean it in all sincerity when I say that your fear confuses me greatly. For the life of me, I don't see anything to be afraid of, and I wish I could convince some of you of that.

Hi Amber,
We have pretty much demolished most of the silly claims about 2012. You can click on any of the links on the left side of the page and read why the claims are false.
We haven't done a page on the weather because it isn't doing anything unprecedented or even all that unusual.
You asked about the Little Ice Age, so here is a short rundown on it. The Little Ice Age started around 1250 AD. It was coldest during the 16th and 17th centuries and began warming back up around 1850. During the Little Ice Age, average global temperatures were 1-1.5 degree Celsius (2-3 degrees Fahrenheit) cooler than they are today. This did cause livestock deaths and crop failures, creating famine in some areas. We didn't have the ability to import food then as we do today. It is nothing to worry you. This is something that happened gradually over a period of hundreds of years. If we had the same type of cooling starting today, it would get down to the minimum temperatures in about 400 years.

We also had The Year Without a Summer in 1816. This was caused by the massive eruption of the Tambora volcano in 1815. It was the largest eruption in recorded history. It went on for 4 months and spewed so much ash into the atmosphere that it caused the summer of 1816 to be cold and rainy. This also caused crop failures, but neither of these events meant the end of the world.

The weather varies. It always has and always will. As I mentioned earlier, my grandmother told me about a blizzard in July when she was a child in Kansas. That would have been around 1915. They had to go dig the chickens out of the snow. You are just learning about events that are new to you, but they've always been happening.

Also Australia? Africa? New zealand, South Africa? Columbia?…
Europe and the US is only a tiny part of the whole world.

Think about it: a documentary that says "nothing will happen in 2012" would have a larger audience than a doomsday documentary? So, docs. called "2012: Armageddon", "2012: Countdown do Armageddon" or "2012: end of the world" let anyone curious. I watched those documentaries while i thought: "Someone is freaking-out".
The Histerya Channel doomsday documentaries (and Natgeo ones too) has writters, not scientist or scholars talking about the end of the world. Disgusting.

Look, the mayans never said that the world will be destroyed in 2012. According to modern mayans, that still lives in Guatemala, Belize, Mexico… the world will not end in 2012. They deny that the ancient Mayans predicted this. About, Nibiru… oh Nibiru… would make a nice fable. You can read more in 2012hoax. Particularly, this is the only website about 2012 that proves what they are saying. So, don't worrie. Nobody knows that day and hour (this biblical claim is smart and, if you trust bible, you may trust it).

One more thing: about this "biblical weather website"… this has no sense. In 1666, bubonic plague killed more than 100.000 people in London. And treated the bubonic plague as a sign of the apocalypse. Moreover, the great fire of London and the number of the beast on the date '1666 'made this year a year of panic and fear of an end of the world. Today, we have the global warming and nuclear weapons as "signs".

PS.: according to this website, in all history there were over 200 end of the world predictions. Funny, huh?

Well, that suggests to me that it really wasn't such a big deal to you, because it really isn't all that strange, but now you're attributing significance to it due to something else. The 2012 doomsayers are either liars or are seriously mistaken. If you're worried about something specific, there's a menu to the left that covers almost everything. If something has been left out, let us know.

Here is a quotation from it: Globally, mortality and mortality rates have declined by 95 percent or more since the 1920s.
In the report about which the article is talking, there is a list of causes of death. Death by weather events comes in right at the bottom of the table, with a figure of 0.03%. In other words, only one person in 3,000 is likely to be killed in this way. You are 60 times more likely to be killed in a traffic accident.

Believe me, there is really no point in worrying about such remote possibilities. There are always extremes of weather going on. Every year will be the hottest/coldest/driest/wettest/windiest since x years ago in a whole variety of locations. As I've said in other postings, if you're going to worry about things then worry about keeping to a healthy diet, getting plenty of exercise and making sure you look before you cross the road. These things will have a far greater effect on your future well-being than any remote meteorological, geological or astronomical event.
