But in 5 billon years the sun will grow into a red giant.
Nobody knows when this will happen, but not soon.
I am a kid but the 2012 doomdays is a myth.
You are an example for other people. Good for you!
Good luck for you, too.
Uh. You're… wrong? 5 billion years is the closest estimation we've got. It may be a few thousand years off.
Trust me, this isn't a debate.
hi, i am a 9th grade girl and i have a few theory's of my own. some people do call me stupid and unintelligent for how i act and for the question i ask about 2012. first of all, saying it is a hoax could be the right answer, but then if we say every theory in the world that concludes to a bad ending is a hoax is just lying to people. yes, it could be a hoax but no one knows for sure. living in fear is a very frightening thing for everyone and could result in suicides but people need to know. if you haven't already heard, there used to be a group called the "Mayans", the predicted the wars, twin towers, ice age, etc.. all those predictions happened to be corrected and they predicted 2012. they had a calender that they decided to end in 2012 saying the world will end on the 21st of December 2012. the thought of this day does frighten me and i am paranoid about it. i just don't know what to think.
Hello Becki,
Thanks for visiting us, and Happy New Year.
You are not stupid or unintelligent; instead, you're the victim of a fraud.
We don't say that "2012" is a hoax because we "don't like the ending". We say it's a hoax because its promoters have repeatedly been caught in falsehoods, as well as in obvious errors that they refuse to admit, much less retract. Typically, they stick to their stories no matter how many times they're proven wrong, or else they change their stories, then pretend that they never made the errors in the first place. We demonstrate and document these behaviors in the links at the left of the page. A good place to start is with our article on John Major Jenkins.
Regarding the Maya, I live in a Maya region of Mexico, and have friends (some of them Maya) who are investigators of Maya history and culture. There is no truth to the claims that the Maya predicted 9/11, etc., and no reason to believe that their calendar "ends" in 2012.
"I was glad to be able to answer him promptly and with confidence. Without hesitation, I told him I didn't know." Mark Twain
Hello becki,
The Mayans did not predict anything. Those claiming that the Mayans predicted all these things are lying to you to make you on purpose scared and sell their books. Maybe you should learn a bit about the Mayans from real archaeological sites. Also realize that Mayans still exists today and they laugh at the 2012 hoax since it is untrue.
Hi, Becky
If you haven't already heard, there used to be a group called the "Mayans", the predicted the wars, twin towers, ice age, etc…
Well, isn't a group, but a civilization of Central America. And, yes, some believe that they did make some predictions, but not the end of the world. In truth, like you celebrated the new year yesterday, they will celebrate a new cycle of their calendar in the end of the 13 baktun's.
The thought of this day does frighten me and I am paranoid about it. I just don't know what to think.
Think about this: if you can't know when you will die, how other people will know it?
Good luck and Happy New Year!
Hi Becki
but then if we say every theory in the world that concludes to a bad ending is a hoax is just lying to people.
Every claim is treated on its own merits or otherwise, which is what you will find if you click on the links on the left under 'Claimed Evidence'. However, can you recall or find evidence for any serious disaster ever having been predicted by anybody before the event? Bear in mind that many predictions, such as 9/11, mysteriously only appear after the event.
Severe natural disasters can't, in general, be predicted ahead of time. Anyone claiming to make such predictions months or years ahead is lying. It's as simple as that.
the 21st of December 2012. the thought of this day does frighten me and i am paranoid about it.
There is nothing to distinguish this day from any other day in the calendar. There's not the slightest reason to suppose it won't pass just as quietly as all the other days on which the world was predicted to end, as you can see from the list here.
Hi Becki,
I agree that you should question things, but that includes questioning the unscientific nonsense and false claims of prophecy being invented by the doomsayers so they can get you to buy their books.
Clearly you haven't read any of the pages here. We aren't saying the 2012 doomsday is a hoax just because we want it to be. We are saying it because none of the 2012 claims have any evidence to back them, and most of them are impossible or are routine events that don't have any effect on us.
Since you seem to be under the impression that we don't know about the Maya, I suggest you read our pages on Mayan Prophecy and the Mayan Calendar. The Maya made no prophecies. Their long count calendar is just ending the current cycle and beginning a new one, much like we did last night.
If there were even the slightest chance that any of the crackpot claims were true, we wouldn't be telling people that they aren't.
