Okay I was on yahoo answers looking at 2012 questions. I know that was dumb ,because some of the answers were laughable but I do have some questions in regards to a certain allignement. In one question a responder said that there were certain stars that are goin to be in the smae position they were in over a million years ago. The person claims that last time this happened most of earth spieces were wiped out. My question here is the true. Another question I have is are we near the "restart" of percession. What I mean is the 2,600 year cycle starting over? Another are we entering a new galatic year? I don't believe 2012 is the end of the world ,but these things are still stuck in my head and I need help. Last question is has the Mayan calender been accurate on anything galatic other the eclipses? thank you for your responses i'm trying to get over my fear of 2012 ,but it's really hard to do.
Lakin, look at the left, the links. Most questions are already answered in pretty details.
Alignment of stars and planets have zero effect on Earth.
Also alignments are no a single event that happens on one single day, week or even months.
In short 2012 it is a scam.
Hello Lakin,
First of all, thanks for sharing your story a few days back. That's quite a service to others.
Whenever we read a statement like, "Certain stars will be in the same position that they were in a million years ago", the first thing we should recognize is that the person making this statement bears the burden of proof. If he/she can't or won't accept that, then we have no obligation to waste any further time and attention on his/her claims.
As part of that burden, he/she should provide details that can be checked. In this case, which stars, and how does he/she know that they'll be in the same positions? Especially, how does he/she define "the same position"? Perhaps you know that each star has what's called a proper motion, and that the Solar system (our most convenient reference point) is orbiting the center of our Galaxy. To make things even more interesting, our Galaxy, in turn, has its own motion with respect to others. With all of these things going on, how could any stars be in "the same position" a million years later, even if the maker of this claim could tell us how to define that?
Similar statements apply to "starting a new precession cycle" or "a new Galactic Year".
Regarding the Maya calendar, the best thing to do is read our article, and the references that it cites.
You might also want to view the videos that I made just for folks like yourself, to explain what causes astronomical alignments. I hate to keep plugging them here, but people do seem tho think they help.

Hope this helps. I know your own story will.

One additional note, stars can never be in the same position as million years ago. They all move independently in different directions. One million years ago constellations would be different.
Hello Lakin,
Yahoo! Answers is not very trustable. Those people try to scarre people. It's funny for him. When they don't want to scarre you, they just don't know the truth: alignments aren't rare, and they (obviously) doesn't destroy the Earth. Although some answers are good (those answers has good references).
Thank you for your responses i'm trying to get over my fear of 2012, but it's really hard to do.
You're welcome. Yes, it's hard to forget this, but this is what the doomsayers want: scarre you. Money and fun.
Another question I have is are we near the "restart" of percession. What I mean is the 2,600 year cycle starting over?
First of all: "precession". The precession is a cycle of 26.000 years. Nothing more than an additional motion of the Earth. You can't even feel it. Some 2012 proponents suggests that the Earth axis will suddenly change. This is impossible and isn't precession. Others suggests that a giant object will impact Earth and provoke the precession. There's nothing with this size in space in collision route with Earth.
Last question is has the Mayan calender been accurate on anything galatic other the eclipses?
In truth, their calendar is like the gregorian calendar: he counts days. The mayans were good astrologers, not astronomers. They didn't predicted eclipses with their calendar, but used it for know when plant crops, know about the seasons… this stuff.
In one question a responder said that there were certain stars that are going to be in the same position they were in over a million years ago. The person claims that the last time this happened, Earth spieces were wiped out.
Laughlable. How an alignment will destroy the world? This has no sense. How many millions of years? 65, 250… What positions? He can't answer, of course…
YouTube: just for funny videos.
Yahoo! Answers: nothing good in there…
Good luck!
Thank you I was A bit confused about that. I'm sorry for repeating already been asked questions and asking so many myself. I'm just trying to get back into the "old me" I guess. Ever since I heard about this hoax my life has changed a lot. It takes all I have to get up in the morning ,and although I do suffer from Gernalized Anxiety I usually had that under control. Thanks to the people here I'm able to look past this hoax ,and it's slowly giving me back my life. I relize this is off topic but fell the need to vent.
Lakin don't worry if you repeat asking questions.
One thing that could help is to actually try to understand how you did get into this believe. What tricks did they use on you to get you convinced. Yes there are tricks, one such trick is to use scary music in the video clips. It already uses a lot of power if you just cut the music.
One thing I can advice you is to listen to podcasts like the "skeptic guide universe".
I am not a sceptic in anyway but these podcasts learn you how to deal with strange claims and how to check them.
Oh yes I know the tricks they use. I hate watching tv for that fact I can't enjoy tv cause I just sit there saying this is dumb this isn't possible lol. History channel is one of them I mean Steven Hawkings was on one of there doomsday shows and he was saying that the odds of something (other then war and sickness) ending humanity in the next years is extremly slim. Then they showed some random "Expert" that said the complete opposite. At that point I changed the channel lol.
Then they showed some random "Expert" that said the complete opposite.
Steven Hawkings is the best physic in the actuality. How they can contradict him? And he's completely right about the end of the world! The History Channel is such a fantasy land.
Is it true that Hindus have reference to end times being 2012? I never really heard of that one…
Hello again Lakin,
Have you taken a look at the brochure that someone made for 2012Hoax? It has a section that might help:
When someone wants you to believe something they are saying, ask yourself these questions:
● How does this person know this information? Did they research it themselves or did they get it from someone else?
● Who is this person? Does this person have the knowledge to be able to say this?
● What is this person saying? Does it fit with what others say about this same topic?
● Why would this person say this? Do they have a personal or financial interest? Are they on TV or trying to sell you something?
● When did this person say this? Is this current knowledge?
● Where would they get this information? Would they reasonably have access to it?Asking these questions will help you to decide which claims to believe.

No… Nor hindus, nor french, nor saracens, nor incas, nor greeks, nor brazilians, nor canadians… nobody. Just doomsayers. They will increase the 2012 myth, put more prophets, civilizations, calendars, bibles, crop circles… but don't worrie. The same crap for the same myth.
Good luck!
You have a point there non of the scenerios add up the only one everyone seems to agree on is global warming. Even then I probably won't be around to see it.
The global warming is independent of 2012. There is no relationship with it.
