I am wondering if the the 2012 hoaxers will not get massive lawsuits when nothing happens.
I hope so….as in I hope they get sued. I'm very supportive of free speech, however, shouting fire in crowded theatre isn't exactly productive or safe.
Unfortunately in order for such a lawsuit to prevail, the claimants would have to prove direct damages. That would be a hugely difficult task, as they would essentially be suing a large group of people, most of whom would be able to convince a judge that their part in the entire thing was minimal.
Unless you can show that a person committed suicide after reading a particular book or watching a particular show, and that the book or show was the direct cause of the suicide, it would be pretty much impossible to prevail in court.

I'd love to see someone try though. It would give me no small pleasure to see that loser Patrick Geryl hauled into court to answer fraud charges.

Patrick Geryl is asking for money to build his shelters, so he could get sued.
And maybe all those that sold survival kits might get people want to have a refund.
I haven't conducted an official survey, but I'm betting that "for entertainment purposes only" and "buyer assumes all risk" disclaimers are very popular among 2012 vendors. I'm also betting that money-back guarantees and return policies are hard to come by.
TheGreatJulu and many 2012 "dealers" often make sentences in way that can help him defendend in eventualy lawsuits. For example they dont write "Nibiru in 2012 will be near Earth" but "many peoples believe that Nibiru in 2012 will be near Earth"
it would be pretty much impossible to prevail in court.
but P Geryl could be in Trouble in 2013 if nothing will happen LOL
They have to be punished, but I think it will not happen… we have freedom to speech, and no rules for it, so they can't just punish the 2012ers… but it would be good.
I too would love to see them punished but, like you, I don't think there would be any way to make any charges stick. There would have to be a direct causal relationship proven for any harm suffered (which would also have to be proven).
Agreed. Even in a worst case scenario where someone did take his or her life over Geryl's claims, had all of his books and kept journals about how the end was near according to him, the evidence against Geryl would be circumstantial at best.
