Mass deaths of animals - some nice statistics

So media is all over this thing like if it was a tell-tale sign of an oncomming Apocalypse, but is it really? As most have pointed out in the other discussions these things do happen, frequently.
Here's a nice link with statistics for 2010 (note, all these events occured in a single year). They are obviously much more common than the media wants you all to think, and that is because they now have a golden opportunity to sell some issues.

Id you guys see that more fish died in Cheaspeake Bay? They said it was croakers and it was due to the water temperature.

My theory was some 2012 truthers that intentionally poisoned the fish and birds to make it appear that something was going on.
But then again, I don't think that they are that intelligent.

OMG i am freaking out now 2 million fish found dead in america now.i am so scared right now my hands are literally shaking please try and figure out what happened to 2 million fish i would not kill myself but i havent eaten for 2 days out of fear and now this happens to 2 million fish whats going on please help and this has apparently happened in sweden,brazil and new zealand recently now i am super scared of this. this has never happened before this consistently and ''together'' and they deaths are being linked can someone tell me whats going on PLEASE???!!

Rory, don't be afraid. This is normal. Doesn't happens everytime, but is normal. Did you see the link above, given by RickardM? You don't need to worry about. Just live your life. Sometimes they fall with some reason (trauma, accident…), but sometimes they just dye with unexplainable reasons.

Rory, where did you find something saying 2 million fish?? I've only found not even 200,000. And they aren't linked. They think it was a bacteria in Arkansas and water temps in MD. It's been very cold here. We've had a lot of snow. And the birds were in Arkansas, Louisiana and Sweden.

Far more fish end up dead on your plate to be eaten. Especially Sushi bars have a big track record of dead fish found. ;-)

The 2 million fish were in the Chesapeake Bay. They said these types of fish should have been gone by now because of the colder water. We go fishing there and you usually catch spots and croakers when it's really hot. They said 15 million had died in 1976. I agree with you though, that I am terrified about this,.

Ok it gives pretty good explanations on why this could be happening, we have had such a bad winter everywhere, it would make sense for it to be cold water stress.

Still, no reason for worry:

According to USGS, those mortality events frequently happen in all world with different animals. Look at the USGS website for all information: http://www.nwhc.usgs.gov/mortality_events/ongoing.jsp

USGS and a network of partners across the country work on documenting wildlife mortality events in order to provide timely and accurate information on locations, species and causes of death. This information is used by natural resource managers, researchers, public health officials and legislators to help design disease prevention and mitigation strategies, to address interconnections between human, domestic animal and wildlife disease, and to assist in identification of 'normal' disease issues vs. biosecurity concerns.

There are many posible reasons for the recent mortality events. Those reasons are:

- Trauma
- Disease (epidemy between animals)
- Pollutants
- Intoxication

I would say, indeed of being worried, "poor animals"!

I just spent several hours totaling up the wildlife deaths for 1995-2010. The only upward trend I see so far is bats dying from white nose fungus. The data appears to be only from North America and from US Territiories.

The bird deaths were mosly from botulism, salmonella, West Nile Virus, avian cholera, cold weather, starvation, trauma from storms,etc.
Anyway, you can see from the numbers for the last 15 years that this isn't unusual. You guys are panicking about very normal events. These have nothing to do with volcanoes, and our magnetic field is also normal, still above average.

im not worried about the fact that the zip-code has 2012 in it thats just silly but i am worried about the fact that there was a recent Documentary on the History Channel (yeah i know they dont do good Documentaries) but they got a religious scholar on and he said one of the signs of the apocalypse is mass animals being sick or dying and im sorry lexie or emmy if this upsets you guys im worried myself and its hurting me.its just doesnt seem like a coincidence to happen in 2 Different states in a week and 2 different countries

omg thanks i read it now it helped alot when will it show the mortality and end date and diagnosis of the fish that died in arkansas and cheaspeake or wherever im not from america lol cause im pretty sure 2 million is like an entire species of fish dying out

Is a big number, but I don't thing this can extint a specie.

About the mass deaths in Arkansas about the birds, another thing, from Wikipedia:

The E.U Times reports that this death resulted from government weapon tests.
