alignment - 2012hoax

The 2012 doom-mongers will tell you it's the Sun aligning with the centre of the galaxy. However, you should note that:
1) The Sun never aligns exactly with the centre of the galaxy.
2) The Sun follows the same path around the sky every year (as the Earth orbits it) so it can't align with a distant object one year and not every other.
3) Even if an exact alignment occurred, the result would be… absolutely nothing.

An alternative claim is that the solstice will occur with the Sun exactly on the galactic equator for the first time in 26,000 years. That actually happened in 1998 and the result was again… nothing.
