Hi everyone!! For the past few months my 2012 fear has been under control and I haven't thought much about it. Well, then the bird and fish deaths happened. I had a small freak out/break down but was better after a few days. Well, now they are reporting cows and buffalo. The cows I understand were from a disease that affects only cows. So, that's not too bad. But the Buffalo in Vietnam supposedly died from freezing. Aren't buffalo supposed to be able to survive in freezing temps?? I know that the media, such as The Examiner, are all over this. I also saw where ATS and GodlikeProductions is talking about it. And the freak out over the buffalo have lead to another 2012 freak out. Could y'all help me please? I just need a little calming down and someone to explain the buffalo thing and to tell me that 2012 is just another year and that me and my family are going to the celebrating Christmas on the 25th of 2012. :)

I am not a wild life expert, but I don't think so.

Links to this website have appeared in the recent threads like a disease. It's not reliable.

Why are you freaking out? They are just buffalos and cows dying because of extreme cold. They can't die anymore? The cause isn't even abnormal. Do you remember the heat wave in Europe some years ago? It's like that. But this time with buffalos and cows. The link:

Lately, Vietnam and India both have been "freezing" with a cold front (or whatever it is) and this is probably the reason for the 7000 deaths.
But the Buffalo in Vietnam supposedly died from freezing.
I couldn't initially find a single news report on this that didn't come from a woo site. Seriously, the first five hits in Google for "Buffalo Vietnam freeze" are The Examiner, Signs of the Times, Sean Hannity forums, Poleshift @ Ning and Godlike Productions.
I guess Sean Hannity isn't "woo," but he attracts his share of woo believers.
The SOTT article seems to be lifted from the Saigon, which I suppose is reputable enough.
Buffalo native to Vietnam are water buffalo. They aren't cold-weather animals like American bison. When it gets cold and they don't have shelter, they die of hypothermia. The region where most of the animals died was the north part the country, up in the mountains, which of course is colder than the lower elevation average year-round. In December and January, sometimes it gets really cold. The lowest temperature that I can find is -4 °C in Lang Son, on a mountaintop. This is apparently one degree less than the previous low of -3 °C in 1973, so these temperatures are not common, but neither are they unheard of.

Just stay away from those sites. Nothing good can come from seeking "information" from sources that don't care about what is true and what is false.
@JuJu……I thought they were talking about the buffalo like you see in the Midwest USA. I was thinking thick fur and Indians. :) That's what threw me for a loop. I didn't realize that they were the water buffalo things. :) Freak out is over now….as far as the buffalo go.
Even if it wasn't normal, I don't see how it can be linked to some doom thing. It's just cold temperatures, cold temperatures that have happened before at that. What, do they think we are going into another ice age? lol I have read things about global warming at www.skepticalscience.com saying that global warming is causing the colder temps during winter in recent years.

Finally a real problem to solve! The global warming is waiting for some solution, and some people are worried about 2012? Now we really need to stop this distraction.
climate science is very complicated, because it is trying to model a chaotic system. Lets just say that increased temperatures will cause changes in weather patterns, and those changes may inflict severe weather on a region that is the opposite of "warming".

Perhaps the link above could give you a better notion of what the GW really is…
