okay i understand not all people on this site are atheist ,but anyone I've talked to is. I'm just wondering is anyone on here really religious i mean like strongly believe in god? I'm not one to judge someone for there beliefs so i'm not bagging on anyone. i'm just wondering if anyone is. thnx for your time =]
I am Christian, as it says on the page linked in my forum signature.
I know of another Christian who is a frequent contributor. There are several atheists, at least one Buddhist, and two (that I know of) Pagans. Religious affiliation isn't a big deal here.

Oh thats good to hear I was worryed I was basically the only one lol. I know I'm religious and all ,but I got atheists in my family so I don't mind it. I also realise it's not a big deal on the site nor should it be i'm not puishing religion on here to each there own i like to say =]. I was just curious lol thanks for the response astro =]
Hey Lakin,
I strongly believe in God, and in Jesus, but I have to say that I'm far from religious…spiritual is more fitting for me. I was (and still kinda am) on a quest to find where I truly belong as far as a religion goes. I was born and raised Catholic and have been non-practicing for at least the last 11 years for numerous reasons..since high school graduation. I am attending some masses at a Presbyterian church and am feeling a little more comfortable with it than I was attending Catholic services. And even though I am not an atheist, I have respect for their opinions and beliefs; in fact, some atheists have actually said things to me that have helped to calm me down of certain fears.

Oh yes I know what you mean. I am a spirtist so i strongly believe in spirits and such. I went through the same thing you did with religion and I've found that I don't really fit with one lol. It's great to hear i'm not the only one that feels that way with religion. It's true that my dad has helped me through a lot with fear and he's not religious at all. =]
I am atheist, but I am not going to discuss this topic too deeply since this is irrelevant to 2012.
Interestingly I like the old bible and and I like the Apocalypse story. I read it many times and still like it.
I am one of the Pagans. Actually a hard polytheist in that I do not believe all gods are one, or all goddesses are one. Wiccans (witches) and many eclectic Neo-Pagans believe in the dual God and Goddess. Basically the Christian God with a Female counterpart.
As for me, I am a Roman Reconstructionist - reconstructing the ancient religion of Rome. (There are a number of us.) There are other reconstructionists who are Celtic or Norse or Greek… Norse are called Asatru (for starters). But again there are so many types and kinds out there, it is difficult to explain it all.
So yes, you can have a religion and still be involved in science.
Lakin :)
I have not yet chose a path for myself, I have tried many and none fits what I am looking for, as you know from my other thread I am seriously looking into Buddhism :)
Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning.

If I were to have a believe then Buddism it would be.
But not that deep that I would wear buddish clothes and so.
OK I don't have the god gene, and never will, but Buddism is the closest to what I find logical.
I think that for a scientist Buddism is one of the best religions.
don't they believe in karma ,god being all around you? I looked into buddism a little bit but thats about it.
Well, yes… but those beliefs are just for real buddism fanatics. Buddhist scientists are a bit more skepticals when follow buddism.
Ah I see well i don't know I could believe buddism. It sounds pretty logical to me..
I think you already are spiritist, but I think you could be both! ;)
I'm Catholic mainly. But for awhile I was switching between that and Baptist because of parental divorce reasons and my dads side was Baptist.
Everything is proceeding as I have forseen. Wait… when did that happen?
Is there much difference between them? I'm not familar with baptist… By the way star wars is kick butt. =]
I forgot what the difference was between the two myself. Though personally, I kind of prefered my Catholic church. Every week something like a natural disaster would happen and the Baptist preacher would claim it as a "sign" which disturbed me for awhile but then got used to it. Whereas, the preacher at the Catholic church would take such things as normal and nothing out of the ordinary. Now I'm not saying Baptists are crazy where Catholics aren't, it's just from my experience.
*Waves little flag with the Empire emblem on it* Yes!
Everything is proceeding as I have forseen. Wait… when did that happen?
Emporer, as a fellow Catholic, I have been somewhat uneasy about Harold Camping's idea about the May, 2011 date. I've talked to my father who is Catholic and he says it's not true. What do yu think of it?
That's the problem with predicting, no one has ever been remotely right. It's even explained in the Bible where it says, "None will know the day. No man or woman. Not even the son. Only the father." (that's as close to accurate at the quote I can remember) and many other people including Christians disagree with him on it. So, in my opinion, he doesn't know and it is highly doubtful he's right.
Here's this site I found some time ago that shows all the predictions man has made.
Everything is proceeding as I have forseen. Wait… when did that happen?
hasn't he predicted the world to end like a bazillion times already? Mind the extreme over egajurashion lol bad spelling
He tried in September of 1994 but that time he practically said, "Well wait there's a slight chance I'm wrong about it." before the date came.
Everything is proceeding as I have forseen. Wait… when did that happen?
Camping also made predictions in 1995 and 1996 that both failed as well. Camping is 89 and terimnally ill it is very likely that he could pass away before then. There is no date given in the Bible for the End of the World. Also there is No Rapture so Camping is already wrong about that. The Rapture is a purely man made doctrine originated in the Catholic Church and made famous by John Nelson Darby and Cyrus Scofield in the 1800's. The Rapture is completely false.
Yeah thays what my dad said too. Thank you so much!!! I feel a bajillion times better
Lindsay
Camping also denies that Christ ever came to earth and claims that Christ is the Arch Angel Michael and also says that the Crucifixtion was done before the creation of the world despite what the Bible clearly teaches.
Alene
Also Camping messes up the whole a Day is Like a Thousand Years and A Thouand Years is like a day to the Lord and uses it for his logic of Noah's Flood which if his logic was correct and one day was A Thousand Years and A Thousand Years a day that means the Floord would've been 40.000 years long.
Some things about Baptists…
1) Each Baptist Church is an entity in itself. There is no "pope" for the Baptists, like most other protestant Christian religions. Unlike many other branches there is no overarching church governing body (at least for most of the conventions).
2) The Baptists organize into 'conventions' based on their different beliefs. Some conventions are very liberal (there is even a branch called the Liberal Baptists), and some are very, very, very conservative.
3) The largest branch of the Baptists is the Southern Baptist Convention. They're way on the conservative side, but not (believe it or not) the most conservative.
I was raised in the (Liberal Yankee) American Baptist church, which split with the Southern Baptists over slavery. I currently attend an equally (or more) liberal Presbyterian church. As far as I can tell, there's not much difference in doctrine.

thanx astro =] Religion is so interesting to me I'm not sure why it is lol
I think the reason I freaked sorta is because of all the dying animals. Although peole say it happens all the time, it still freaked me out tat he was actually right..but you guys always have a way of making me feel better. Thank you guys so much
We're working on a page about the dying birds. At this point it is just a small collection of links but you can check it out as we build it at animal die-offs

Thanks, astro. I don't think you realize how much you, moo, Tomy, and everyone else has helped me. I am so glad I have found this website :)
Emperor Palpatine,
And all this time I thought you were a Sith lord.
Sh! They aren't supposed to know!
Everything is proceeding as I have forseen. Wait… when did that happen?
I was raised Southern Baptist. They are VERY hell fire and brimstone. Every thing is a sign of the times.right now I am trying to figure out where I fit. I was scared by a preacher when I was about 7 and I've never been back. He would scream and slam his hands down on the podium. It was horrifying at that age. I want to be part of a religion that doesn't believe things like the birds are a sign of any thing but nature. Any suggestions? I've never told my parents how I feel, they would flip. Like one of my biggest queations regards the Bible…was it meant to be taken literally like with the end times stuff or to keep the people of that time in order and under control???
Catholics don't believe in all the fire and brimstone. But its not something we can suggest for you. You need to study and choose for yourself. Catholics tend to be a little more conservative..it just depends on what you prefer. But no matter what, you're still praying to the same God. :)
Check out insidecatholic.com. and look at other religions..maybe a non-denominational would be more suited to you. Personally, I don't agree with the being "saved" concept but again. Like I said, everyone is different, and its the same God
And this is how catholics feel about the bird deaths http://www.insidecatholic.com/myblog/animal-die-offs-mass-shootings-and-the-power-of-random.html

Any Christian based religion is basically dead in my country. Only the old and Muslim people still believe in something.
But even those that are Catholics don't believe in hell here. Hell and Satan that is for them something in scary movies, not real at all. You must be very old if you are Catholic to think that hell is real.
ah okay i was just curious I know in countries like japan 60% of people are non religious or agnostic so yeah thanks =]
like japan 60% of people are non religious or agnostic
There is a study about this. The less religious countries in the world are the most developed. The first less religious is Sweden, the country with the best quality of life, environment and government, the second one is Vietnam. The third is Danmark, fourth Norway, fifth Japan, sixth is Czech Republic, seventh is Finland, eight is France, nineth South Korea and 10th is Estonia.
As you can see, almost all developed, except Vietnam. Perhaps do not believe in God is the best way of life…
Yep.
I remember that there is some prediction that at the speed the church is losing people going to Catholic church they church would be empty by 2013 in Belgium?
It does not mean that people became atheists, just that believe has almost no part in life any-more. I know no one that prays or reads the bible. No one I know talks about religion, god or something religious. Not at work, not when I was in school no where. Even Christmas is not really associated with religion any-more. People tend to go to the Christmas evening church, not because they believe but because it is some cultural thin, something romantic.
Don't get me wrong, some churches do get young people but these people tend to come from Poland or Italy or some Eastern European country.
Interestingly is that the Catholic church themselves are probably causing the decline in religion very fast.
Personally, I kind of prefer that people keep quiet about religion in school. Mainly because it gets out of hand. In my math class someone brought up the dead fish and birds and suddenly someone said, "It's a sign of the Apacolypse." and this other kid pulled out his Bible and started reading out from Revalations. It just bothers me on how far and rediculous that could go…
Everything is proceeding as I have forseen. Wait… when did that happen?
yes religion can cause a lot of problems and i'll agree i don't think religion should be part of anything it's more of a personal thing. It's not wrong to have a religion or belive in a god nor is it irrational in my opion. One of my biggest pet peeves are people who are close minded and the more i see the more i relize religion causes a lot of this. Not saying anything bad religion is a great thing.
It's just it can get out of hand so easily. And I don't mind if it's discussed privately within a group of people or people praying before, during, or after school then I don't see it bringing a problem. But I mean… reading out from Revalations isn't the best way to calm someone or let alone a group of people.
Everything is proceeding as I have forseen. Wait… when did that happen?
It's just your opinion about religion.
My opinion is: believe in some god is a necessity. There will be always someone creating his own god and creating some false proof that this god is real. The people have fearsor difficulties, so they need be "rescued" by some mysterious persona or await for a miracle, instead of rely reality. That's my opinion.
Peace!
This thread is wandering very far afield of the website's purpose… just say'n.

Sorry.
Everything is proceeding as I have forseen. Wait… when did that happen?
Recently, I have been thinking about spiritism. Is there some relation between spiritism and newagers?
Because I know a guy that every year he predicts some apocalypse. He wrong, always, of course, but amuses me when he tells me how he can't predict an apocalypse: "angels" and "spirits" told him. Perhaps I should consider the existence of angels and spirits between us, and perhaps some study could prove this, finally.
I'm far from believe in these things, but this still mess my head a little. =(
I can't really see the difference, nor the similarities myself. I think Spiritism is more believing in an afterlife and other planes of existence. While New Age has more of a life style from what I've read. I could be wrong though…
Everything is proceeding as I have forseen. Wait… when did that happen?
"angels" and "spirits" told him
So we have proof that even angels and spirits have their lunatics.
Maybe he should channel another angel. Maybe some angle that have a science degree?
Okay to answer your question tommy there is a difference. Spritist beliefs are usually based on the beliefs of angels demons, afterlife etc. I will admit there are a lot of scam artist when it comes to things like mediums and etc. Not saying they are existing I'm trying to answer without pushing religion. Newage is more of a lifestyle as emperor said. There is slight similarites, but there not really the same thing. Newagers are usually after money ,and they will claim their physics or mediums. I wouldn't worry about it too much tommy =]
I wasn't worried. I was just a bit confused.
Thanks for the answer.
