I am one of the ones that is terrified of the world ending but this site has actually helped me ALOT!! I have even forwarded it to my best friend who is just as terrified as I am.. but the one thing I have not seen mentioned (maybe I am not looking in the right direction) is tsunamis. What are your thoughts on it? Can those be predicted before they happen like a hurricane or what?
Thanks :)
No, they can't. Tsunamis happens after an earthquake or a volcano eruption. Both are unpredictable.
Unless you use the ability of predicting a natural event of an animal, you can't know when a tsunami will happen. ;-)
Thats one of the fears I have with this whole 2012 thing is that a huge tsunami will hit.
I was one of the idiots that actually watched the 2012 movie, and should not have.
Is there a way to make myself feel better about the tsunami thing?
I don't know, but perhaps this page can be useful for you:
thanks, i'll probably just stay scared of the tsunamis. thats the only part that scares me!
thanks for the website though. really helps!
A tsunami such as the one in 2004 is a very rare event, they're triggered usually by underwater earthquakes and sometimes landslides. Nowadays there is usually a warning given if an earthquake large enough is detected underwater and this allows areas under threat to be evacuated. The 2012 movie is just that, a movie, not sure if your aware but NASA recently named it the worst science fiction movie ever, as the science was so far fetched. No scientist, government or news agency is concerned about 2012 because there is not a single peice of evidence to suggest any threat or danger. There's no evidence that the Maya thought the world would end or that 12 21 12 would be that significant. It's all made up nonsense by con men, please try and calm you and your friend down. Hope this helps.
it really does help, alot.
especially that you said they can usually be triggered and the area can be evacuated.
I wish I would've never watched that movie. Its like 2 hours of my life I'll never get back.
Thank you very very very much.
No problem. Also a tsunami that affects the whole globe is pretty much impossible. 2012 the movie was garbage, in my opinion, so you have my sympathies. If you've read all this site and it's helped I'd also advise you to read NASA's ask an astrobiologist and dr Ian o'neils no apocalypse in 2012 articles. They are very good and should really put your mind at ease. Good luck.
NASA recently named it the worst science fiction movie ever
Actually, they didn't…
is everything else he said true? about being able to tell and evacuate an area?
Yeah, but just in some cases. Anyway, these tsunamis are very rare, as Gary well said before. If you don't live in the coastal city, you don't need to worry about.
Depending on where you live, tsunamis are impossible.,
I'm pretty sure they did tomy, can't remember were I saw that but I'm certain they said it.
I'm almost certain a Coastal region in the u.s would have warning of an incoming tsunami. I think you have saw the mega tsunami in the movie and it's provoked your imagination. But it's pure fiction, a guy sat with a pen and wrote it, it's not real. Also if we can't predict a tsunami now, how could the Maya have done it hundreds of years ago?
Hi kk,
Since you live in the DFW area, you don't need to worry about tsunamis. The movie was unscientific trash. None of the events depicted are possible. A global tsunami can't happen and you are far from the coast and on higher ground. Don't worry about nonsense in the movies. They are entertainment not reality.
kk :)
You are free. You live in Fort Worth, Texas, right? Just for you know, Fort Worth can't be destroyed by a tsunami, and "gargantuous" (a la Patrick Geryl) tsunamis are impossible.
The reasons:
- No earthquake can make such a tsunami
- The other possible reason, an asteroid, is very, very rare and he must hit the Atlantic Ocean to make a tsunami (otherwise, there would not be a tsunami or if the next asteroid hit Pacific Ocean, the huge tsunami cannot achieve Texas by land)
- 2012 movie's tsunami is not possible
You are safe in Fort Worth. :-)
Hi Lindsay,
It appears that you are about 100 miles from the Atlantic coast and at an elevation of 166 ft. I think most of the force and height of a tsunami would be broken when it hit the shore at the mouth of Chesapeake Bay, so it should never make it to Richmond. At roughly 100 miles away and 166 ft. up, you should be safe.
Oh, God Free-speaker trying to calm down Lindsay… is the end.
Anyway, Lindsay as Alene said you are very far (100 miles from the Atlantic Coast) and in a very high altitude (166 ft).
You don't need to be concerned because:
- Tsunamis on the Atlantic Coast are very, very rare;
- Tsunamis are not so strong and cannot destroy Richmond;
Don't worry.
Don Yeomans said they didn't:
Oh well, I must have read the article that was doing the mis-quoting. Appologies for that.
Why you dudes ignore 2012 Why 2012 is false?
Web Bot predicted the birds and fish die-offs in Arkansas. Did you know that?
Why you dudes ignore 2012 Why 2012 is false?
Despite all your postings, you've yet to show us that it isn't false.
Web Bot predicted the birds and fish die-offs in Arkansas. Did you know that?
Yeah, sure it did.
We've given you many reasons. And you keep throwing them away in denial like some child. You refuse to take our evidence no matter what we give you. Please come back when you grow up, unless that is when 2012 passes but I fear by then you still won't grow up.
Really? What fantasy of yours did that happen in?
Everything is proceeding as I have forseen. Wait… when did that happen?
Would you look at that, this thread started off about Tsunami's and is now descending into Web bots and Wizards. Keep it on topic or move along guys, start a new thread if you absolutely have to.
Sorry. But this guy has really been bothering us all for the past several days. Though if you want, I can make another topic about it?
