Lol. I ended up on this discussion somehow and was wondering if it is true at all? I understand that in space there is no "up or down". But would it really have no damaging effects on the earth? Just figured it might start and interesting discussion.

The only known force that could flip the earth in a short period is a real collision. But the chance that it will flip upside down is very unlike, it will have a different orientation not a 180 degree turn.

Any collision with Earth like that would completely destroy Earth and probably form another moon too.
