He actually died on October 9, and Astrogeek updated the Sitchin page accordingly on October 26.

He is the one who started the Nibiru hoax. According to Zecharia Sitchin, Nibiru may not arrive until 2900.

As Tomy said, he did start the Nibiru nonsense. He misinterpreted ancient Sumerian writings about Jupiter, which they called Nibiru. Then from looking at a Sumerian seal depicting circles and star, he decided that there were tweve planets, the 12th being Nibiru. He wrote a book about it, in which he said it would return in 2085.
Nancy Lieder hijacked his imaginary planet and Arguelles' imaginary end of the Mayan calendar for her new doomsday after the failure of her 2003 Planet X one.
Zecharia wasn't happy about that, but was somewhat mollified when his book started selling again.
