Did the U.S. government actually order 500000 plastic coffins in preparedness for a big disaster they are anticipating? Just when my meds start to work and I start to not care about 2012 stuff, someone thinks up something new to freak me out! :)
I'd been hearing about that for a while at various conspiracy places. From what I have read the big plastic things are not "coffins" they are in fact the liners that go in grave sites. My brother informed me they had to buy one when my father passed away.

Marketing rule nr 1: The more you buy them the cheaper the unit price. It think it is just basic economics and they are ok for the next 50 years.

Maybe, but not for a disaster. Many people like to prepare for everything, from installing security cameras to building underground shelters. Security has become a problem for many countries, and they want to make money with the fear.
Only half a million? For a country of over 300 million inhabitants?
Did the U.S. government actually order 500000 plastic coffins in preparedness for a big disaster they are anticipating?
No. Conspiracy websites have been posting photos from the warehouse of Vantage Products, which manufactures grave liners. Also, the actual number they have on hand at any one time is around 50,000, not 500,000. It goes along with the whole "FEMA camps" hysteria, and it's total bunk.
Also sounds sneaky similar to claims of hundreds of thousands of 'frozen meals' or 'MRE's' being bought.
Well, from what I've read, FEMA actually didn't 'buy' the MRE's, they sent out an RFI - Request for Information. They wanted to know who they could get the MRE's from the fastest, as well as for the lowest expense, in case of an emergency. But you may want to look this up, I just remember I read that when this whole 'OMG FEMA'S BUYING MRE'S WE'RE GONNA DIE' thread came out on ATS. Truly though, would you rather FEMA be prepared, or have them completely clueless as to what to do, if and when an emergency happens? It's a lose-lose situation for them either way, apparently.
