I have been a frequent visitor to this site, but never took the time to post anything. I must say it is a great site, and I am glad I have found it. I have been scared of this whole end of the world stuff since the summer of 2008 when I first read about the 2012 thing. Honestly, there are times when I am still scared, afraid and worried. There are days when I manage to shovel this whole issue behind. Today is one of the worse days. Let's just say that this whole 2012 and other end-of-the-world rumors have brought the worst out of me. I have been suffering from anxiety attacks, and they are partly due to these rumors. I often come to this site to get some peace of mind. But as I said, I am having a bad day. There are too many scenarios, too many predictions… let's just count, 2012 as a whole, May 21, 2011, and also the comet Elenin which some say would hit us. I try to visit reliable sources (such as the Nasa website etc.) to get proof of the opposite. But in the back of mind the fear is there. I am in my early 30s, and a mother of a 1 year old precious little boy, who is the most special creature on earth (for me at least of course), and often I am worried about our future, about his future… and the question "what if any of those rumors were true" keeps coming back. I need some reassurance, so that's why I come here often. Keep up the good work, guys!
Hi Maryanne,
There is nothing to worry about. 2012 is a big hoax, the proponents are using mayanism to claim BS that is against mayan beliefs. There is also New Age beliefs in those claims, and as far as I know, the newagers are not very reliable.
too many predictions
No one predicted a catastrophe for 2012. Oh, well, the doomsayers did, but based on a non-prediction. The Maya don't believe in 2012, nor Hindu, Hopi, St. Malachy (this one is not reliable, by the way), Egyptians, Incas, Aztecs, Nostradamus, Mother Shipton, I Ching… countless.
let's just count, 2012 as a whole, May 21, 2011, and also the comet Elenin which some say would hit us.
"2012 as a whole" is a huge-bad-lie, May 21, 2011 is pure numerology and comet Elenin won't hit us. Believe me, it's all a hoax.
I try to visit reliable sources (such as the Nasa website etc.) to get proof of the opposite. But in the back of mind the fear is there.
You're with the classic "what if". Stop thinking "what if". There is no evidence of any doomsday in 2012. All the claims are nonsense and BS. They are doing this in order to sell more books, scare more children and adults and perhaps make another movie. After 220 end-of-the-world predictions fail, are you going to believe in this crap again? I'd not.
and the question "what if any of those rumors were true" keeps coming back.
Yeah, as I said above, you must stop thinking about what if, because the "what if" is highly unlikely. The world can end before 2012, after 2012, tomorrow, no one knows; hrmm, it may not end in this century. Very unlikely too.
Keep up the good work, guys!
Thanks and good luck.
HINT: Go to the "links" page, read older threads and read a page called "Agpage", on this website. A few science may be worthy for you.
There are too many scenarios, too many predictions…
With all a 100% failure rate to predict anything and 100% failure rate to have any scientific credibility. ;-)
Also by being scared you miss all the fun stuff. Just like the beautiful CME that creates this beautiful northern lights from yesterday that hit Earth! You would love it to see it with your own eyes.
May 21, 2011, and also the comet Elenin which some say would hit us
I'm looking forward to May 21st. I love to see these idiotic predictions fail, and fail is what they do every time. No exceptions.
As for Comet Elenin, it will come no closer than 21 million miles at its closest approach which will be on 16th October 2011. On that, you can bet your life savings. A tiny lump of rock with some gas and dust coming out of it isn't going to have the slightest effect on us.
To put some scale on it, if the Earth were a sphere 1 metre in diameter, the comet would be the size of a grain of sand at a distance of about 3 kilometres (2 miles). Hardly a threatening object!
Thank you everyone for the replies! You have made me feel much better. I like the way you explain things, they make sooo much sense.
