Sorry I can't post the article, im writing from my phone. What does this mean? Is it bad? I know the Chile quake moved it also. Could someone please find the report and it explain it all? Thanks!!
It is my unverified suspicion that any sufficiently strong quake can change things like earth tilt, rotational time, and land mass placement in subtle ways. We've had 4 stronger recorded quakes than the Japan quake, and many more before we started measuring earthquakes' strength, stretching back billions of years. If my suspicion is correct, then I would assume Earth has gone through these minor changes on a rather regular basis.
Yes, that is true. It is common for strong quakes to do this. It won't make a noticeable difference in the length of a day. It is to be expected and nothing to worry about.
Laura, large quakes pretty much always cause some reorientation of the planet's axis. ThreeFangCat is correct. Four inches is "a lot" in that it is indicative of a very large earthquake, but it's very minuscule on a global scale and won't have any noticeable effect on anything.
Thanks y'all! Still working hard on shakeing my 2012 fears. :)
You guys have no idea how much this quake has shaken things up regarding 2012, especially on youtube.
heck listen to what this one person actually said.
"If you add 11 9 01 (twin towers) and 10 3 11 (Japan Earthquakes) it comes to 21 12 12 that day the worlds supposed to end."
This particular statement has been posted on these forums countless times in the past day or so. What people fail to realize though is it happened on March 11th, not March 10th. This is a classic example of doomsayers twisting information to meet their twisted desires.

In Japanese time, it hit on March 11, so i really dont see a reason to count it from american time.

It happened after midnight in the U.S. as well so it was the 11th in U.S.

Then it just makes even less sense.
- “I fear one day I'll meet God, he'll sneeze and I won't know what to say.”
What doesn't make sense is that people chose 9/11 and the Japan Earthquake, when there were more deaths from the Haiti earthquake. Why not use that date? How about Hurricane Kutrina? The only reason they chose those dates is because it fits. Its just evidence of how screwed up these people really are.
Honestly it just proves that numerology is only about making it fit, the way you want it to fit, and still it doesnt make sense, when the japanese time was 11th of march, not 10th of march. It's like "Well heck, some places in the world if was still 10th of March, therefore it makes sense, if i just twist it abit, and voila! Time to scare a bunch of people, muahaha!" because that's really all there is to it.
Also, if they should do it right they should do it like 11 9 2001 plus 11 3 2011, witch gives 21 13 4012. So that will mean that in a few 2000 years, we'll have a 13th month, right? .. This is just another example that they twist it to fit their minds.

Sept 11th (NY) Jan 11th (Haiti) and March 11th (Japan)….Luke 21:10-11Then Jesus said to his disciples : "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes', famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven. 'Jesus says for behold I come quickly, [so… ask yourself are we ready?] [Sad to say Many won't repost this]
That is a FaceBook status making the rounds right now…….UGH!
But how does it prove anything? That would mean that any other world distasters should have happened the 11th of-something too! That's the problem, they leave out any other distasters, and sadly some people forget that!

Also, Haiti was 12th of Januar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Haiti_earthquake ….

Good job pointing out that inconsistency Haust.

No, because many aren't brainwashed to believe it. Did I just say that? Yes, yes I think I did.
The main thing that has me creeped out is that a woman youtuber, posted a video on March 8th saying that Comet Elenin was going to cause something to happen between the 11th and 15th of march and something did happen.
This woman also says that Jesus speaks to her and she also has 2012 related videos on her page.
That's… ridiculous. Comets can't trigger earthquakes. They are too small. If our moon, thousands of times bigger than the comet, can't trigger earthquakes, whoa, I can't imagine a comet doing so. She is indeed pretty lucky, but "Jesus speaks to her" and that comet brought bad consequences to the poor Japan… boy, that's hard to believe.
Yea i had the sense of things happening and people were talking about comet Elenin was gonna effect the earth from march 11 to 15th which i thought was bunch of bs and still think its a bunch of bs. japan normaly gets earthquakes and people make a big deal that leads 2012. I sense nothing about 2012. yes there gonna be earthquakes all in different time not in one single day. And the woman saying she predicts it. one i dont predict but i can sense things. that was just one single day a 8.8 or 8.9 earthquake happen. it didnt happen everyday. I look at her youtube page she is more upsets with the end of the world stuff. sounds like a person to scare others.
If it's the video referred to in this posting then there's no mention of March 11th. Have you actually seen any other video which mentions March 11th and was posted before March 11th? Or are you just reading a claim that there was such a video?
Altering predictions after the event is standard procedure for woo-artists. You should know better than to fall for it.
I understand that this is scientifically true and completely plausible as Japan is an earthquake-prone country but why do you think it's getting so much hype? I mean according to the USGS major earthquakes like this happen every year so why is the Japan quake getting so much attention? Is it because of the tsunami or the nuclear reactors? I just want to be able to reassure my friends that this isn't a sign of the world ending.

The quake itself was large enough, but the destruction brought about by the tsunami and nuclear threat are indeed exceptional. For once, I don't think this is hype so much as an actual newsworthy event. The doomsayers, as usual, have just jumped all over it without any regard for reality.
We get, on average, about one great earthquake per year (magnitude 8.0 to 9.9). That means about half of the values will be above 1, and half below 1. We had four 8.0+ magnitude quakes in 2007, but none in 2008, followed by one each in 2009 and 2010. These things just happen. When they hit in the wrong place (like just off of populated coastlines), we can see widespread damage, massive tsunamis and many deaths. It isn't a sign of anything but the ongoing tectonic processes off our planet.
