Grow up.

I've been keeping a mostly silent vigil over this website since the day that tragedy happened, and I can really only sum up my overall feelings with those two words. While you're worrying about the world coming to an end for you, feeding into the numerology and the lies… the world has come to an end for thousands of people. A fraction of those have lost their lives, and more have to start from scratch.

The world has ended for those people, and yet here you are, not even experiencing the horror that happened in Japan, cowering in fear of something you couldn't even begin to comprehend. And the truly amazing part is? The Japanese people are ready to pick up the shattered pieces of their world, and start over.

Case in point? Reitaisai 8, doujin convention, was canceled due to the events that transpired. What did they do, instead of running to the internet and post about the coming apocalypse? They held a virtual replacement for the convention, to help make sure all of the people who traveled to it didn't lose out on something they look forward to every year.

And some of you? Are too busy chasing the coat-tails of the next YouTube Prophet, then skittering back over here to beg for them to be 'debunked'. Makes you really wonder, doesn't it?

I'm not questioning your character with this. I'm trying to get you to see that the world /has/ ended for many, and the people who were right there are not doing the stuff that people who weren't even on the same continent, are. Grasp that.

Oh, Moo, "grow up" doesn't seem to be the best solution.
Thousands of japaneses lost their lives in that disaster and a few people are worried about a worldwide earthquake because an YouTube video or anything else said so? That's disgusting in my opinion. :-(

While I completely understand your frustration with this situation, it must be remembered that this website exists for one simple reason and that is to help people. A lot of the people that come here scared seem to be kids, some adults but mostly kids. Regardless it doesn't really matter, because this website has been created as a place they can come and seek answers to their questions, no matter how odd or frustrating they may be. If any anger is to be displayed towards anybody it should be the people who are picking this up and running with it for personal gain. Whether they be delusional or just heartless, they are the ones using this natural disaster as a means to spew their crap. If somebody comes across it and for whatever reason believes it, they come here and seek answers and/or reassurance, and they have a right to it. As I stated, that is what this website is for, and ridiculing guests to this website just gives the website a bad name and gives people the wrong impression.

The kids are generally two-time posters, and are usually done then. This is toward the older teenagers and adults, more than anyone.

Their fears are entirely selfish. They worry more for their own lives, by buying into the lies and deceit, and don't give a second thought to the people who's world has ended.

And, I am sorry. But our approach so far with these individuals I am showing ire at isn't helping them. They come back every week, asking for something we've already covered to be debunked again. It shows they do more research into what fake event could kill them, and less on /why it is fake/.

Perhaps showing them both the harshness of reality, and the narrow-minded nature of their own hearts, will be a better alternative. You all know by now that I don't think people need to be coddled for months.

Well I can't deny it's a talking point you've raised here Moo.

I see what you mean by saying there are people who come time and time again with the same questions, but I do also see that a straight up slapping of some sense into them perhaps isn't the best approach.

If anything though, I don't think the whole point of this thread is about being harsh to posters, it is as you mention the fact that even in the middle of what is likely to be the worst disaster the Japanese people of today will face in their lives, they are still getting on with the lives they have to the best of their ability, and that those who are spouting that this is a sign of impending doom are sat on their backsides in the comfort of their own home.

I don't exactly know how to word this having not been in any sort of disaster situation myself, but it's the fear of possibility (ignoring for the moment that 9 times out of 10 the fears are based on the impossible) that gets to people, not necessarily the event itself. I may even go so far as to say that were the fearful to find themselves in such an event, they'd likely forget all about 'signs' and 'prophecies' and whatnot and rightly focus with the very direct, very real threat they find themselves in, not simply the imagined threat they read about.

Like I say, a talking point indeed.

I have to say that your posts kind of irked me. Who are you to say what one's fears are - selfish or otherwise? Who are you to say that a person doesn't need reassurance from a group of people who are knowledgeable and have the ability to calm that person. Goody Goody for you that you don't need that here anymore.

I am an adult that comes to this site again and again. I didn't always have these fears and it was because of a life altering near death in the family that I am anxious and fearful. Unfortunately most of my fears are about what the future holds. I don't think anyone needs to see the "harshness of reality" because it is all around us.

Oh and BTW, I pray for Japan and what is happening over there daily. I think its immensely sad and hope that the world can pull together to help them in recovery. Surviving is human nature, and I know now that is what I'll do should something of such a magnitude would ever hit my part of the country. I will still return to this site for a hug and to pass that on to whoever might need one on down the road - child, teen, or adult.

Don't worry about what Moo said. Sometimes he gets pretty snarky. That is his opinion, but not that of everyone here. Our whole reason for being here is to help kids and others who are frightened by the 2012 claims. I definitely didn't know about the subjects we discuss here when I was a kid. I sure don't expect today's kids to know. And I disagree with the "slap some sense into them" statement. That won't accomplish anything and will drive them away when they come to us for help.

Im pretty sure it was still the 10th in Europe, however it was 11th in japan and the U.S. As i said in another topic, it makes no sense. If they should do it right they shouldnt be leaving the 20 infront of the date out. This is just a perfect example that they twist it however they want.

No, it really isn't creepy. It's just someone picking dates of two unrelated disasters, a terrorist attack and an earthquake, making sure they use only those that will add up to the date they want.
Did you see in another thread where Diesel chose the date of the Pearl Harbor attack (12/07/41) and that of the earthquake in Japan? Oops! We get 15/18/52. Or we could take the sinking of the Titanic 04/15/1911 and the Challenger explosion 2/01/2003. Gee, we get 6/16/14, or if we use all 4 digits of the year, we get 6/16/3914. Do you see how they were picking their disasters to get the dates to add up as they wanted? We could also use all 4 digits of the year with the original numbers cherry picked by the crackpots. We get 12/21/4012. Numerology is nonsense. They just choose the numbers to get their desired result.

There are people who have posted here, worried about their safety. The Japanese are a secondary thought, and please don't even try to lie about that. It's true. Survival instincts demand you fend for yourself, and your family. Everyone else is a liability to your own survival.

They do this in the comfort of their own homes. With food, shelter, power, everything that has become almost required for daily living.

The people who were victim to the Tsunami? They can't do this. They aren't doing this. Take a step back further, look at the reactions from the Japanese. What are they doing? Picking up the pieces. Trying to stop even /more/ destruction. They haven't given up, and began to believe in a fake event as the Rapture, or 2012.

They're fighting to survive.

Why can't you? In the comfort of your home? With all of your cherished ones, and possessions, within arms reach?

Does it truly take the experience of living through a disaster, to better understand them? Must you brave the elements, before being at peace?

I don't know.

At least, for me? Any sparks of potential 2012 belief I /may/ have had before this? Are extinguished.

Why?

Because Japan refuses to give up. And why should any of us?

I can see what you mean. But it's hard to get over such a large scare as seen from other posters here. As the year gets closer though, more people start to worry and that's when they come here asking for us to help because they don't know where to turn. This Japan earthquake is a big jump for most people and with most trolls/2012 fanatics going around linking the earthquake to 2012, kids are bound to believe it. You can't really blame a kid for being a kid. The world is still new to them.

And yes, while we should stop linking 2012 for a moment and start being concerned about the people in Japan, as harsh as this sounds, most people can't really do anything about it but donate and/or volunteer for relief missions when the time comes. And that goes for kids too who can't really do anything at all except hope for the best, or in even some cases aren't even paying attention or are even aware of it. When I was a kid, I wasn't even aware of the things going on in South Ossetia, or of what really was going on in Katrina. I just went along with my life. I'm sure kids are doing that now or are reading off sites that link this to 2012 and worry about themselves. It's not being selfish, it's just they can't do anything about it and don't understand what's going on.

This also applies for adults. Even some adults come here afraid of 2012 or don't know what to say to their kids. While they are more aware of what's going on in the world, they can't do much of anything either. They have jobs, kids, bills to pay, and other stuff to deal with.

I do not come on here, to argue, nor, to disagree with peoples legitimately held views, however, this is a view that is unwarranted.

People come on here, because they are scared, and in most cases, clinically depressed. People with these fears in many instances are ILL. and the fact that you would be so inconsiderate and closed minded towards a sick person, is nothing short of disgusting. People come hear, in many cases as stated, afraid and ill. they need support, rational thought, and explanation, not merely (and yes i would love to state a personal opinion upon yourself here) to be shot down, and be made to feel smaller, than mentally they already do.

You want people to grow up, well, i suggest you take this growing up time, and visit a mental health hospital, it may grow, and broaden your horizons, then you can see that people can not help these thoughts. You are lucky you can. These comments towards genuine, and nice people, should be not be said, and if it kills you, then you should still refrain from them. We all have personal views, but those who belittle and put people down, should not have any place on this board.

That. That is the whole point. We don't see reports of the Japanese going nuts, we don't see them break down, we see them banding together and pulling their nation through this event. That alone should be an indication that as bad as the world is sometimes, it's not the end. It's far from the end.

If I'm reading it right, Moo is trying to say 'look at yourselves, the Japanese are in this and are getting on with their lives, and you, far far from the events aren't.'

Yes, the way he phrased it can be deemed harsh, uncalled for, excessive, but at least he hasn't replied to each and every question with his opinion. Heck, it might put things into perspective for some people - the Japanese are preparing for the possibility of a nuclear meltdown in one of their power stations, and we're arguing over what date the earthquake occurred to combat flipping Facebook statuses. Is this really how far we've come?

Consider that a rhetorical question for the minute, and then run a search for how many threads are on this board involving that particular numerological nonsense.

Maybe you should check the Japanese forums, Facebook and news paper comments. I doubt that all Japanese are that stable.

There is no need for evidence that the entirety of the Japanese nation is stable, and I'm pretty darn sure I read that Emperor Akihito is concerned and fearful for the immediate future. The Japanese have all the right in the world to be worried, they are, obviously, directly affected by these events.

What I do not see, and what is the point of this thread as far as I can tell, is that the people fearful of global catastrophe right now, on the back of the Earthquake are not the Japanese. They fear for local events, sure, but the concept of a pole shift and a supermoon haven't taken a back seat, they never got in the car in the first place. People fearful of the excrement hitting the air vents are those who are either mislead or actively searching this stuff out, and both are safe in their homes.

People get mislead often, we all know that, we all deal with it here on this very site, and I know that there have been cases here where we wonder just why posters appear to seek the wild claims out, who post each and every non-event where we reply with all that we can reply with, the same advice and answers that we've replied with before, to those same posters.

There must surely come a time when a bit of perspective is put on this. There must be a post of 'you know what, we really can't provide anything more for you, you'll just get the same response again and again, it really is up to you what you do with it, carry on searching for this rubbish, or realize there really is nothing in it all'.

Some people think that should come sooner rather than later.

Sorry guys, but a small part of me agrees with moo. His wording may seem harsh, and I agree telling kids to grow up isn't right. But really, there are a lot of people who are beginning to relate everything to 2012, wether it's dead birds, bad weather, earthquakes, distant comets etc. These are all natural things. I kind of like moo's style, he tells you what he really thinks. Nobody criticises david Morrison for telling people they are being stupid, they respect him for it. Doctors do it all the time with hypochondriac patients, they will reassure them for so long then eventually start telling them they are being silly. If someone comes here looking for help, of course, help should be given. If that person repeatedly goes looking for the next conspiracy on ats or godlikeproductions or wherever, then comes here looking for reassurance, that's wrong in my opinion. That person should be told, in no uncertain terms, they aren't helping themselves and are being stupid. I love this site and the compassion and patience shown by all of you amazes me. However, I genuinely believe pointing out how silly a person is being can sometimes be the best reassurance there is.

Yes and so will there be many Japanese forums now also having panicking Japanese that actually believe that the world is ending. You just don't see them on the News. Moo's claim is baseless.

I do agree that if there are people in an never ending circular loop of scaring themselves and the expect other to come and give additional attention then you should not reward them with attention.
But the people that are posting here a lot are actually debunking the claims as they go and actually show the thought process of someone being scared. I also know that these people will also be in a much better position to help others in the same position they were before just because they can lead by example and speak the same language.
It also keeps the forum alive so people come back since they see that something changed. And new people come and see since the messages are not one year old, but fresh.

Yes some people can overcome their fear by becoming angry. But that does not mean that everyone can do that.
I think that new people might now get scared to tell their story because of Moo's reaction.

Possibly, but I think if people are really terrified they wouldn't really give a sh*t what moo thinks. Anyone who reads these forums knows what moo's like, some may think he's rude or obnoxious, personally I enjoy most of his posts. Maybe he has a tendency to go too far, but I think this particular thread has been taken out of context. What I think moo is trying to say is "don't look for the pain and suffering, look for the hope and determination of the Japanese and learn from it". Of coarse I could be wrong. I do think that a lot of people (myself included) have benefited from realising how stupid or gullible we are for ever believing this 2012 nonsense.

Kids will be kids. Individuals over the age of sixteen and up… no. Individuals over the age of thirteen know the difference between the lines. But I digress.

It should also be noted that adults come here worrying about what to say to their kids when they don't know what to tell them when they happen to go to History Channel seeing some documentary about the end of the world. My cousin went through that phase. It took weeks to get him out of it.

There are mothers and fathers that come here in a panic worried about what their kids say because their kids' are worried so badly it either becomes or gets close to a health problem. And yes, some parents or adults haven't even heard of this whole doomsday thing themselves. But that doesn't mean they all go around babbling nonsense on the street and start cowering in a corner when they first hear about it. If anything, they're lucky this sort of site exists. If we weren't helping these people (or in your case "coddling" them) then they probably would be shouting this nonsense in the street. Or worse. As said above, people have commited suicide over this sort of thing, and I believe there have been people coming here contemplating it. Do you really expect me to tell someone contemplating suicide to grow up? If you do, I don't want to assosciate with you as you have problems.

Again, I'll repeat this one last time, while adults should think about helping the Japanese and stop linking things to 2012, they can't do anything about it right now except donate or volunteer to a relief effort when the time comes. They have other things to worry about, especially if their kids start worrying about this themselves.
